The analysis of the design features of the bogie of the TEM23 shunting diesel locomotive is carried out. In the process of analysis, the directions of its improvement are determined. It is proposed to rotate the bogie frame in the vertical plane by reducing the body supports to two and using a pivot with low lowering, equip the bogies with pneumatic spring suspension in the form of two corrugations installed in series with shortened suspension springs. The proposed options for improving the undercarriage of a diesel locomotive will increase the competitiveness of products and reduce costs

The LaCoste and Romberg straight‐line gravity meter uses a new suspension in which the movable element moves vertically in a straight line rather than in an arc of a circle (LaCoste, 1973a). It was designed primarily for shipboard operation to avoid effects from cross coupling between various ship accelerations, thereby making it unnecessary to correct for such effects. The straight‐line suspension is a modification of the zero length spring suspension used in all LaCoste and Romberg gravity meters. The new model also uses silicone fluid damping rather than the air damping used in earlier models. Its main advantages over the older models appear to be: it is (1) free of cross‐coupling effects, (2) easier to build and adjust, (3) less subject to slight degradation in performance from rough handling, and (4) less sensitive to ship vibrations. In spite of the above advantages it is doubtful whether the new model will give substantially better accuracy than the previous models, if the previous models are kept in good operating condition by making occasional crosscorrelation analyses (LaCoste, 1973b). Valliant (1983, this issue) describes sea tests of the new instrument.

This paper proposes an improved design of micro-machined tuning fork gyroscope (M-TFG) to better decouple the cross talk between the driving and sensing directions and to increase resolution. By employing dual-folds spring suspension, the drive mode and the sense mode are mechanically decoupled. Through careful layout design of the location of the dual-folds spring suspension and the drive combs, the mechanical coupling effect is further decreased by isolating the unwanted excitation from detection. The peripheral circuit is also the important part to realize the function of the gyro system. Since the analog circuit has some inherent shortcomings, which has limited the accuracy of the gyro. In this paper, a digital control system for micro-comb is introduced.

The methodology for studying the impulse disturbance of the railway track joints on the indicators of the dynamic qualities of the railway vehicle has been developed. The dependence of the impulse repetition factor on the energy dissipation level in the system and the speed of the vehicle is obtained. A comparative assessment of the dynamic qualities of a freight car with a typical scheme of spring suspension and a car with suspension based on the principle of compensation of external disturbances is performed. It has been established that the spring suspension of a freight car based on the principle of compensation of external disturbances delivers to it significantly better indicators of dynamic qualities in comparison with car equipped with a new three-piece truck with a typical scheme of springs. Vertical acceleration of the car’s body with a new scheme of vibration protection and dynamic forces in spring suspension is several times less than for a car with a typical three-piece truck structure.

The lightweight design of trucks is of great importance to enhance the load capacity and reduce the production cost. As a result, the taper-leaf spring will gradually replace the multi-leaf spring to become the main elastic element of the suspension for trucks. To reveal the changes of the handling stability after the replacement, the simulations and comparison of the taper-leaf and the multi-leaf spring suspensions with the same vertical stiffness for trucks were conducted. Firstly, to ensure the same comfort of the truck before and after the replacement, an analytical method of replacing the multi-leaf spring with the taper-leaf spring was proposed. Secondly, the effectiveness of the method was verified by the stiffness tests based on a case study. Thirdly, the dynamic models of the taper-leaf spring and the multi-leaf spring with the same vertical stiffness are established and validated, respectively. Based on this, the dynamic models of the truck before and after the replacement were established and verified by the steady static circular test, respectively. Lastly, the handling stability indexes for the truck were compared by the simulations of the drift test, the ramp steer test, and the step steer test. The results show that the yaw rate of the truck almost does not change, the steering wheel moment decreases, the vehicle roll angle obviously increases, and the vehicle side slip angle slightly increases after the replacement. Thus, the truck with the taper-leaf spring suspension has better steering portability, however, its handling stability performs worse.
