Abstract A rigid ring model of the tire for the study of in-plane dynamics and a new technique for determining the parameters of the model are presented in this paper. This model can be used for studying the comfort of vehicles, problems of driving, and braking problems in the longitudinal direction. Comparison with finite element models shows that the rigid ring model of the tire is capable of describing the in-plane eigenmode shapes in the frequency range of 0–130 Hz. The well-known “brush model,” integrated into the tire model, is introduced to take into account the slide phenomena in the contact patch. The parameters of the model can be correlated with the physical properties of the tire so that designers can take advantage of such a correlation in the development of new tires in terms of time, cost, and performance. The technique used to determine the parameters of the model for some automobile tires include the direct measurements of some physical properties (mass, moment of inertia, stiffness) and a method of identification applied on the results from a dynamic test. The model is able to predict experimental data in terms of natural frequencies and relative dampings. Results from the application of this technique on two tires are reported.

This study focused on the uniform distribution of graphene oxide (GO) nanosheets in cement composites and their effect on microstructure and performance. For this, three polymer dispersants with different level of polar groups (weak, mild, and strong) poly(acrylamide-methacrylic acid) (PAM), poly(acrylonitrile-hydroxyethyl acrylate) (PAH), and poly(allylamine-acrylamide) (PAA) were used to form intercalation composites with GO nanosheets. The results indicated that GO nanosheets can exist as individual 1–2, 2–5, and 3–8 layers in GO/PAA, GO/PAH, and GO/PAM intercalation composites, respectively. The few-layered (1–2 layers) GO can be uniformly distributed in cement composites and promote the formation of regular-shaped crystals and a compact microstructure. The compressive strengths of the blank, control, GO/PAM, GO/PAH, and GO/PAA cement composites were 55.72, 78.31, 89.75, 116.82, and 128.32 MPa, respectively. Their increase ratios relative to the blank sample were 40.54%, 61.07%, 109.66%, and 130.29%, respectively. Their corresponding flexural strengths were 7.53, 10.85, 12.35, 15.97, and 17.68 MPa, respectively, which correspond to improvements of 44.09%, 64.01%, 112.09%, and 134.79%.

ABSTRACTRefuse-derived-fuel (RDF) consisting mainly of waste paper and plastics is a viable fuel source for the production of power. An experimental test burn partially substituting coal with RDF was undertaken by the Public Service of New Hampshire at the Merrimack Power Station.Five percent and ten percent RDF were substituted, on a BTU basis, for coal in the test bums. The chemical and physical properties of the resulting fly ash were determined. Twelve test burn days were run with 4 days of 5% RDF and 8 days of 10% RDF. Emphasis was placed on investigating the effect of the RDF fly ash on Portland cement concrete.Most of the chemical and physical properties of the coal-RDF fly ash were found to be comparable with ordinary coal fly ash except for the amount of cadmium and lead, the pozzolanic activity index and the compressive strength of fly ash concrete. Cadmium and lead were at average levels of 5.1 ppm and 102.6 ppm for the 5% RDF, and 7.8 ppm and 198.3 ppm for the 10% RDF, respectively. Although the pozzolanic activity index of coal-RDF fly ash increases over normal coal fly ash, preliminary results show that the 28-day compressive strength of concrete with direct replacement of cement and sand decreases by up to 30%. Leaching tests on crushed concrete were conducted to evaluate the environmental effect of acid rain.

From decades it has been recognized that Geopolymer will considerably replace the role of cement in the construction industry. In general, Geopolymer exhibits the property of the peak compressive strength, minimal creep and shrinkage. In this current research paper, Geopolymer mortar is prepared by using GGBS and Fly ash. The mix proportions are of (100-60)%GGBS with Fly ash by 10% replacement. The alkali activators Na0H and Na2Sio3 are used in the study for two different molarities of 4&8. The ratio to Sodium silicates to sodium hydroxide is maintained from 1.5, 2, 2.5 & 3 were used. Mortars are prepared and studied the effect of molarities of alkali activators in their setting times and strengths
