Embodiment is defined as a state in which one experiences one's physical body as an essential aspect of one's lived experiences, a potential protective factor against body image and eating disturbance. The Physical Activity Body Experiences Questionnaire (PABEQ) was rationally derived as a measure of embodiment based on focus groups, literature reviews, and expert review. The PABEQ and measures of body image, self-objectification, and disordered eating were administered to two samples randomly selected from a pool of 606 female undergraduate students at least 18 years of age and a third test–retest sample of 58 female undergraduates. Exploratory factor analyses and reliability estimates supported a two-factor scale: Mind-Body Connection and Body Acceptance. Results indicated the utility of the subscales in predicting body awareness, body responsiveness, positive body image, body satisfaction, self-objectification, disordered eating, and positive body image.

Background: Problems of malnutrition were found in developing countries, one of them was anemia. The highest proportion of anemia in Indonesia in pregnant women was 37,1%, followed by underfives 12-59 month was 28,1% and population ≥1 year was 21,7%. Adolescents also become susceptible to anemia. Anemia can lead to fatigue, disturbed concentration resulting in decreased learning achievement and work productivity, resulting in a weak immune system that causes infection easily. The purpose of this research is to know the frequency distribution of anemia occurrence at students of Fadlun Minalloh Boarding School. Methods: The study used cross-sectional design with 43 female students at Fadlun Minalloh boarding school. Hemoglobin levels were measured using the Hemo-Cue system, weight measured using digital scales and height using microtoise. Body image and breakfast habits were measured using questionnaire. Chi Square test was used for bivariate. Result: The percentage of anemia in PP Fadlun Minalloh was 58,3%. Anemia is most prevalent in v the 12-14 years age group of 44%. Most santri have breakfast habits of 88.4%. Most santri have good nutrition status that is equal to 48,9%. Most of the respondents had a positive body image of 60.5%. The results of the bivariate analysis showed no significant relationship between age (p =0,14), BMI (0,85), body image (0,94) and breakfast habits(0,93) with anemia in female students.  Conclution: More than 50% of female students at Fadlun Minalloh boarding school were anemia. The greatest incidence of anemia in the 12-14 year age group. The most acceptable model explaining the associations between physical exercise and self-esteem is the exercise and self-esteem model (EXSEM). The present cross-sectional study tested the mediating role of body appreciation and physical fitness perception in the associations between physical activity and self-esteem in modified EXSEM. Overall, 1412 Lithuanian adolescents (40.2% were boys, mean age 17.0 (SD = 0.5) years) completed online questionnaires. The study was implemented in 2019 from October to December. Perceived physical fitness and body appreciation mediated the associations in the EXSEM. Physical fitness perception was directly associated with the self-esteem of girls, but not boys. Gender moderated EXSEM associations in body appreciation and perceived physical fitness showed stronger mediation effects for the adolescent girls compared to boys. Increasing physical activity, positive body image and perception of physical fitness might help to foster mental health, especially in girls.

Background. Body image concerns (BICs) negatively influence young people’s health as they mutilate psychosocial functioning and lifestyle. The present study aimed to compare BICs, socio-cultural attitudes towards appearance, and disordered eating (DE) in a large sample of student women and men of different body mass (BMI) and physical activity and to evaluate the mediating role of sports participation in the association between BICs and DE. Methods. A total sample of 1850 students (1087 or 58.8% were women, average age 21.6 ± 5.0 years) participated in the study and completed a questionnaire measuring BICs, internalization of the socio-cultural appearance ideals, drive for muscularity, DE, physical activity (PA), and BMI. Two hundred eighty-two men and two hundred eighty-eight women reported leisure-time participation in sports. Two-way ANOVA was conducted to test gender, BMI group, and sports participation effects on study variables. Moderated leisure-time exercise at a sports club effects were tested in the association between body image concerns (BICs) and disordered eating behaviours (DE). Results. Overweight/obese students reported greater BICs, internalization of the stereotyped appearance ideals, and DE compared to students of normal body weight. Participants of sports clubs demonstrated higher appearance evaluation and body areas satisfaction; however, they reported higher overweight preoccupation, internalization of socio-cultural ideals, drive for muscularity (men), and DE. A higher level of BMI, BICs, internalization of socio-cultural body ideals, and drive for muscularity (in men) were associated with greater DE in students. Participation in sports was not a significant moderator between BICs and DE. A significant interaction effect between BMI and exercising at a sports club was observed in women. Conditional effects demonstrated that female students with higher BMI and exercising at a sports club were at higher risk of DE (β = .18, p < .001) than women non-exercising at a sports club (β = .13, p < .001). Conclusions. Overweight students of both genders reported greater BICs and DE. Sports-involved students (men and women) demonstrated more favourable body appearance evaluation. However, sports participants of both genders demonstrated greater BICs and DE compared to non-exercisers. Sports participation had no significant mediating power on the associations between BICs and DE; however, women with higher BMI and participating in leisure-time sports faced a greater risk for DE than women with higher BMI but not participating in sports. The promotion of a positive body image was important to students, especially female students with higher BMI and participating in leisure sports. Keywords: body image concerns, disordered eating, physical activity, sport clubs, emerging adults.

This paper focuses on testing hypothesized psychosocial predictors factors (general unconditional acceptance, body acceptance by others, body function appreciation) for positive body image among 812 female students aged between 18 and 35 years. Path analysis procedures contained in the Mplus Version 7 program were used to evaluate the positive body image model. The positive body image model indicated that greater perceived body acceptance by others was linked to greater body function appreciation which in turn was linked to higher positive body image. Perceived body image acceptance by others was directly related to higher positive body image. General unconditional acceptance did not lead to female students greater body function appreciation. The findings revealed some important positive body image predicting factors, and these results can be used to improve positive body image interventions.
