A 10-year retrospective study was performed in order to determine the incidence, distribution, histological type and behaviour of skin tumours of the hand that were referred to a regional Plastic Surgery unit. 85 patients were studied and 98 malignant or pre-malignant lesions identified. The majority were squamous cell carcinomas in male manual workers. Recurrence after excision was seen only in lesions greater than 1.5 cm in diameter. The overall incidence of squamous cell carcinoma of the hand (requiring surgical excision) was seen to be five cases per million per year. Other skin tumours were rare.

The scalp is the most frequent site of occurrence of malignant tumors. As an area that is generally neglected by the patient and not closely monitored during physical examinations. Plastic surgery has a double interest in the management of malignant tumors of the scalp: it allows oncologic tumor excision and coverage of defects induced. The present study reports 65 cases of giant malignant tumors of the scalp and who underwent surgical management, from January 2011 to June 2019. It included oncologic resection and repair of the defect. The average age in our series was 69.3 years, with a sex ratio of 5.1. Disease duration before consultation was on average 21 months. The location of the tumor was mostly parietal in 75%. The histological types were found in our series: 36 cases of squamous cell carcinoma, 16 cases of basal cell carcinoma, 6 cases of melanoma, 3 cases of trichilemmal carcinoma, 2 cases of dermatofibrosarcoma protuberans and one case of sarcoma and one case of adenoid cystic carcinoma . To cover the defect we used: skin graft in 44 cases and by local flaps in 21 cases. 42 patients benefited from radiotherapy and the evolution was marked by a reactivation in 3 cases of squamous cell carcinoma. The management of malignant tumors of the scalp is surgical and consists of two components: surgical excision and coverage. This repair is achieved through multiple techniques, facilitated by the vascular richness of this anatomical region.

BACKGROUND: Penis cancer worldwide has an incidence of 0.51- 8.3 per 100 000 males. It is treatment can be surgical, conservative or radical, with adjuvant treatment radiotherapy and chemotherapy. The objectives were: to determine histologically the most common type of penile cancer, the place of involvement, and the most used surgical treatment. METHODS: It is a descriptive, retrospective study realized in Dr. Juan Tanca Marengo National Oncological Institute, between the periods of January 2010 to December 2015. Patients with a histopathological diagnosis of penile cancer were included; the variables studied were age, location, presence of lymph nodes, histopathology, recurrence, metastasis and surgery performed; the mean and standard deviation were obtained. For the statistical analysis Excel 2016 and SPSS were used. RESULTS: The patients studied were 58 with penile cancer; it was evidenced, in relation to age, an average of 59 years and standard deviation was obtained +/- 14.74. The lesion was located more frequently in the glans 41 %, followed by a total involvement of the penis with 38 %; in the case of the nodes they were palpable in 24 patients. The most frequent histological type was squamous cell carcinoma 67 %. The most used treatment was subtotal penectomy in 62 %. CONCLUSIONS: It was determined that squamous cell carcinoma was the most prevalent histological type, being located mainly in the glans; the technique most used was subtotal penectomy. It is recommended to pay attention early when there is evidence of a lesion at the level of the penis, the early treatment of these lesions improves the patient's prognosis.

Abstract Porokeratosis belongs to a group of disorders of keratinization that are characterized by the histopathological feature of the cornoid lamella, a column of tightly fitted parakeratotic cells. The etiology of porokeratosis is still unclear. Different variants of porokeratosis (PK) have been subsequently recognized, each with its own specific properties in terms of morphology, distribution and clinical course. Linear porokeratosis is one of the variants of porokeratosis, a rare disorder of keratinization that may develop into several epidermal malignancies, squamous cell carcinoma being the most frequent among all of them. Thus, a clinical surveillance for malignancy is an imperative. We present a case of a 54-year-old man with non-healing ulcer of the lower leg caused by squamous cell carcinoma arising on long-standing linear porokeratosis. The treatment included wide excision of tumor with the reconstruction of the area. Acitretin was prescribed for linear porokeratosis treatment. The follow-up of our patient so far has shown that he does not have new malignant lesions after surgical excision.

Squamous cell carcinomas of the lung, head and neck, esophagus, and cervix account for more than two million cases of cancer per year worldwide with very few targetable therapies available and minimal clinical improvement in the past three decades. Although these carcinomas are differentiated anatomically, their genetic landscape shares numerous common genetic alterations. Amplification of the third chromosome’s distal portion (3q) is a distinguishing genetic alteration in most of these carcinomas and leads to copy-number gain and amplification of numerous oncogenic proteins. This area of the chromosome harbors known oncogenes involved in squamous cell fate decisions and differentiation, including TP63, SOX2, ECT2, and PIK3CA. Furthermore, novel targetable oncogenic kinases within this amplicon include PRKCI, PAK2, MAP3K13, and TNIK. TCGA analysis of these genes identified amplification in more than 20% of clinical squamous cell carcinoma samples, correlating with a significant decrease in overall patient survival. Alteration of these genes frequently co-occurs and is dependent on 3q-chromosome amplification. The dependency of cancer cells on these amplified kinases provides a route toward personalized medicine in squamous cell carcinoma patients through development of small-molecules targeting these kinases.

The current study aimed to examine the effects of clinicopathological factors, including the region, midline involvement, T classification, histological grade, and differentiation of the tumor on the rate of contralateral lymph node metastasis for oral squamous cell carcinoma and to assess their effects on survival rates. A total of 331 patients with intraoral squamous cell carcinomas were included. The influence of tumor location, T status, midline involvement, tumor grading, and the infiltration depth of the tumor on the pattern of metastasis was evaluated. Additionally, the effect of contralateral metastases on the prognosis was examined. Metastases of the contralateral side occurred most frequently in squamous cell carcinomas of the palate and floor of the mouth. Furthermore, tumors with a high T status resulted in significantly higher rates of contralateral metastases. Similarly, the midline involvement, tumor grading, existing ipsilateral metastases, and the infiltration depth of the tumor had a highly significant influence on the development of lymph node metastases on the opposite side. Oral squamous cell carcinomas require a patient-specific decision. There is an ongoing need for further prospective studies to confirm the validity of the prognostic factors described herein.
