ABSTRACTIncorporating technology in pre-college education is an important goal. There is a clear mandate from the national education standards movement to address the issues of scientific and technologically literate citizenship. The Materials World Modules (MWM) Program uses a unique approach based upon design and inquiry to unite the abstract, quantitative methods of scientific inquiry with the concrete methods of technological design to help students develop and integrate these complementary skills. By experiencing MWM, students learn science by doing science. Using the MWM modules, students will be doing what scientists and engineers do: integrating the design process of propose, build, test and evaluate with the inquiry process of question, predict, experiment, reflect, and communicate. This kind of active application of learning leads to mastery of scientific concepts and greater retention.

The requirements of Lithuanian Natural Science Education standards for a primary school are quite difficult to implement. The conducted research has demonstrated that natural science education of the primary school graduates in Šiauliai city and Šiauliai region did not correspond to national primary natural science education standards (Vilkonienė, Vilkonis ir Lamanauskas, 2005). Some researchers (Klimienė, 2001; Lamanauskas, 1996) maintain that the planned results can be achieved through integrated teaching. In their opinion the objectives and the tasks of natural science education can be implemented through regular and optimal usage of the content of various teaching subjects. The content of native language education contains the activity called subject text reading. Choosing subject texts it is purposeful to consider their content. It is an excellent possibility to integrate the knowledge of natural science into the content of native language education. Reading, discussion and the analysis of the writings presented in the article during the classes of native language would enable effective integration of the points of natural science education. The article also contains the fragments of natural science education standards, which could be purposefully used as a basis for organising integrated education/self-education, and the proposed information sources, which could be purposefully used by pupils and teachers, searching for the answers to the arisen questions. Key words: natural science education, linguistic education, integration, sources of additional information.

The aim of the study is to analyse the educational means facilitating the development of the linguocultural competence within the academic environment in Ukraine under conditions of the coronavirus pandemic. About 60 senior students and 15 university instructors giving classes in English and Chinese participated in the research. The research methodology is based on analytical and practical analyses of the normative documents facilitating the correlation of foreign language education standards in Ukraine, Europe and China; interviewing; observation (within the experimental study/training). The results show that all students and instructors admitted the importance of culture-related issues in the process of teaching and learning languages; 99% of the teaching staff and 75% of the students chose a more detailed content of culture-related issues to be taught/learnt; 80% of instructors and 78% of the students highlighted the importance of organising culture-related events. The research results show that it is crucial to accomplish a balanced integration of language and culture in the teaching process. Teachers should clearly understand what cultural information is significant and how to make efficient use of it by applying digital resources. The key issues teachers should pay attention to are the evaluation of cultural information, its accessibility and the most efficient ways to present it to students.
