Abstract In recent years, the clinical importance of laryngeal electromyography (LEMG) has been recognized. This method of investigation proved itself to be a valuable and indispensable tool regarding voice disorder management and requires multidisciplinary approach. In this article, we focus on the clinical usefulness of LEMG to assess inferior and superior motor neuron integrity by recording action potentials generated by muscle fibers of the larynx in the new field known as neurolaryngology. To facilitate the clinical application of this electrophysiologic test, we present a detailed description of LEMG techniques, which were applied for simultaneous bilateral recordings of the thyroarytenoid, cricothyroid and posterior cricoarytenoid muscles. Also, we analysed and measured the following electrophysiological parameters: 1) insertional activity; 2) spontaneous activity; 3) recruitment; 4) morphology of waveform. From a practical point of view, in our country, LEMG performance is still not a routine procedure in ENT and Phoniatric Departments. The difficulty of practical use of LEMG in Romania consists in technical limitations and it depends on the physician’s experience regarding the examination technique and also the interpretation of electrophysiological results. Our current clinical experience shows that the use of LEMG contributes especially to the diagnosis, prognosis and treatment of patients with neurolaryngological disorders.

Efficient transdisciplinary cooperation promotes the rapid discovery and clinical application of new technologies, especially in the competitive sector of oncology. In this review, written from a clinical-scientist point of view, we used glioblastoma—the most common and most aggressive primary brain tumor as a model disease with a largely unmet clinical need, despite decades of intensive research—to promote transdisciplinary medicine. Glioblastoma stem-like cells (GSCs), a special tumoral cell population analogue to healthy stem cells, are considered largely responsible for the progression of the disease and the mediation of therapy resistance. The presented work followed the concept of translational science, which generates the theoretical backbones of translational research projects, and aimed to close the preclinical gap between basic research and clinical application. Thus, this generated an integrated translational precision medicine pipeline model based on recent theoretical and experimental publications, which supports the accelerated discovery and development of new paths in the treatment of GSCs. The work may be of interest to the general field of precision medicine beyond the field of neuro-oncology such as in Cancer Neuroscience.

ABSTRACT Seizures in the newborn are associated with high morbidity and mortality, making their detection and treatment critical. Seizure activity in neonates is often clinically obscured, such that detection of seizures is particularly challenging. Amplitude-integrated EEG is a technique for simplified EEG monitoring that has found an increasing clinical application in neonatal intensive care. Its main value lies in the relative simplicity of interpretation, allowing nonspecialist members of the care team to engage in real-time detection of electrographic seizures. Nevertheless, to avoiding misdiagnosing rhythmic artifacts as seizures, it is necessary to recognize the electrophysiological ictal pattern in the conventional EEG trace available in current devices. The aim of this paper is to discuss the electrophysiological basis of the differentiation of epileptic seizures and extracranial artifacts to avoid misdiagnosis with amplitude-integrated EEG devices.

The search for a harmonious smile associated with minimally invasive and painless procedures, made the ceramic laminates take on a prominent role in facial aesthetics and consequently in smile aesthetics. The advances in adhesive techniques, ceramic materials and technologies associated with their manufacture, have made ceramic contact lenses a safe and predictable alternative for rehabilitation in cases of dental diastemas, restoring color, shape and position in the arch. Therefore, this case report aimed to demonstrate the application of porcelain veneers in closing diastemas in order to optimize the treatment. It was observed, with the clinical case presented, a very satisfactory result from the aesthetic and functional point of view.

Aim: To reveal the patients point of view about the selection of different presbyopic correction options from ophthalmic lenses and awareness about presbyopia. Methodology: In this Prospective study, feedback questionnaire based study in North India, 126 subjects were enrolled and the offline questionnaire and responses were recorded. Participants’ age ranged between 37 -75 years (using near correction). Evaluated the responses to know the reasons of chosen of different options for pre-presbyopia and presbyopia correction by the subjects and attitudes about it, its importance, and present conventional correction opinions including bifocals, progressive addition lenses and contact lenses. Result: Among the all participants, number of participants between the age group 37- 45 (pre-presbyopes) were 35 (27.77%), between 45-55 years of aged group were 60 (47.61%) participants and rest of 31 (24.60%) participants were between 55-75 years of aged group. Forty eight participants (38.1%) were already wearing a near correction while seventy eight (61.9%) were not wear any near correction. Out of 126, the 6 (4.76%) subjects were chosen a near visual correction and separated glasses, 88 (69.84%) subjects were chosen the bifocal lenses, rest of all 32 (25.89%) subjects chosen the PALs. And no one was using contact lens for near correction. Few similarities were observed as age–related (75.38%), total unaware of word presbyopia (85.71%), comfort, convenience and appearance concerned (63%). Conclusion: The spectacles were most preferred for the correction of presbyopia. Bifocals are taken by majority of population. After educating about Presbyopia and advantages of PALs, it was revealed that most of the subjects wanted to choose PALs because of comfort and convenience to see all distances but most of them denied due to cost and 4-8 days adaptation time. So most of the subjects were chosen the bifocal lenses even they knew the disadvantages of it like image jump and segment line, while comfort, convenience and cosmetic appearance were seen as the preferred than cost. But cost also played role while finalize the lens and its coatings types.

The term geo-sciences has been used here to include the disciplines geology, geophysics and geochemistry. However, in order to apply geophysics and geochemistry effectively one must begin with a geological model. Therefore, the science of geology should be used as the basis for lunar exploration. From an astronomical point of view, a lunar terrain heavily impacted with meteors appears the more reasonable; although from a geological standpoint, volcanism seems the more probable mechanism. A surface liberally marked with volcanic features has been advocated by such geologists as Bülow, Dana, Suess, von Wolff, Shaler, Spurr, and Kuno. In this paper, both the impact and volcanic hypotheses are considered in the application of the geo-sciences to manned lunar exploration. However, more emphasis is placed on the volcanic, or more correctly the defluidization, hypothesis to account for lunar surface features.
