Die Mobilität von Menschen und Gütern ist ein wesentlicher Stützpfeiler einer funktionierenden Gesellschaft und Grundlage einer leistungsfähigen Wirtschaft. Die Mobilität im Bereich des Straßenverkehrs ist in ihrer derzeitigen Form mit enormen Herausforderungen auf globaler Ebene konfrontiert (Dauerhaftigkeit, Sicherheit, Effizienz, Ökologie, Kosten, Automatisierung etc.). Im Sonderforschungsbereich/Transregio 339, der von der Deutschen Forschungsgemeinschaft seit Januar 2022 gefördert wird, forschen mehrere Institute der TU Dresden und der RWTH Aachen (Bauwesen-Informatik-Gesellschaft) an einem räumlich wie zeitlich mehrdimensionalen, digitalen Abbild (Realitätsmodell in Raum und Zeit) aus Fahrzeug, Reifen und Fahrbahn. Das Realitätsmodell „Digitaler Zwilling Straße“ ist gekennzeichnet durch die intelligente Verknüpfung aller relevanten Informationen über das System „Straße der Zukunft“, einschließlich physikalischer Materialuntersuchungen, numerischer Simulationen sowie informatorischer und verkehrlicher Daten (Sensordaten, Datenmodelle etc.).

The aim of the article is to analyze three variants of modernization and reconstruction of a road intersection, which in practice is the cause of numerous collisions and accidents. Detailed design solutions are presented for them. The aim of the analyses is to indicate an effective solution that, taking into account technical modifications of the road system elements, will ensure the functionality of the road system to the highest degree and significantly reduce the number of road incidents. To indicate the optimal solution, quantitative data (cost and duration of activities for three options) and qualitative data (determined based on the own experience and knowledge of road industry experts) is analyzed. The authors refer to many criteria of various natures (e.g., economic, technical, functional, environmental, social), which allow for comprehensive consideration of the current requirements of road users and changing circumstances, among others a steady increase in the number of vehicles and growing social expectations in terms of road parameters. Considering the presented analyses and arguments, the authors recommend option 1 as optimal. This is the most expensive solution among those analyzed and with the longest implementation time, however, taking into account the long-term prognosis of the direction and scope of changes to the existing standards and requirements for road infrastructure, it can be stated that option 1 meets them to the highest degree, and also has the greatest potential. The envisaged solution ensures high standards of the quality of road infrastructure use in terms of functionality, capacity, technical parameters, as well as the safety of traffic participants related to the smoothness of the journey, reduction of the number of collisions and accidents.

Previous research led to hypotheses that calving caribou ( Rangifer tarandus granti J.A. Allen, 1902) in north Alaskan oilfields habituated to human activities: (i) across years and (ii) annually after spring migration (i.e., re-habituation). We used predictor variables of year and a spring snowmelt index to evaluate weight of evidence for these competing hypotheses. Response variables were calf percentage and sighting rate of calving caribou along a high-traffic road system from 1982 to 1990 and 2000 to 2002. We also considered local calf percentage and caribou density, determined by aerial surveys, for respective response variables. We found no evidence of habituation across years. We found two more lines of evidence (one strong and one weaker) for re-habituation within years during calving periods. Post hoc models suggested a further tolerance response exhibited by caribou; more data are needed. Even when snow melted early and calving caribou were most habituated among years, caribou and calves were under-represented near the road system. Investigation of a traffic-rate effect seems warranted. However, habitat selection and forage availability should be considered when interpreting avoidance behaviour at a larger spatial extent. We contend that the behavioural adaptability of calving caribou exhibited in existing oilfields was contingent on the no-hunt policy.

Mendocino County is a large rural county in northern California with more than 1,000 centerline miles of county-maintained roads. The terrain is mountainous, with a few small inland valleys. During the 1990s, the Mendocino County Department of Transportation developed a program of road system traffic safety reviews to improve signing and markings on the arterials and collectors in the system. The effectiveness of the program was measured by comparing accident data for the reviewed roads with data for roads not included in, or influenced by, the reviews. To control for different groups of factors, two sets of control roads were selected—county-maintained roads not reviewed and state highways within the county. Over two consecutive 3-year review cycles, the number of accidents on the reviewed roads fell by 42.1%, while on the county-maintained roads not reviewed they increased by 26.5%, and on the state highways they fell by 3.3%. The total cost to conduct the reviews and implement the recommended changes was $ 79,300. The accident histories of the control roads were used to define the limits of the range of probable benefits. On the basis of average accident costs provided by the California Department of Transportation, calculated savings ranged from $ 12.58 million to $23.73 million, yielding a costs-to-benefits ratio between 1:159 and 1:299. The county is expanding the road system traffic safety review program to cover its entire maintained road system.

The paper is dedicated to the estimation of the state of the road economy of Voronezh up to date. The state of the Voronezh road system is analysed, statistical data are given, and the problems of the city transport system are studied. On the basis of all the data obtained, ways to solve existing problems are proposed and long-range programs for the construction of new and reconstruction in operation roads are considered. The complex of works of the improvement state of the road system planned for the near future is described in detail.

IntroductionTraffic events are one of the five leading causes of mortality in Mexico. Pedestrians are one of the main road users involved in such incidents and have the highest mortality rate, which is regularly analysed in relation to vehicles and pedestrians, but not the built environment. The purpose of this study was to analyse the elements of the road system organisation that influences the mortality rate of pedestrians hit by motor vehicles in the Guadalajara Metropolitan Area.MethodWe designed a case and control study in which the cases were sites where a pedestrian died during 2012. The controls were sites close to where the death occurred, as well as those with road infrastructure characteristics similar to those where the events took place. We obtained the pedestrian data from the death certificates and assessed some of the environmental elements of the road sites. A logistic regression analysis was used to estimate OR; 95% CI.ResultsRoad system factors related with pedestrian mortality in close locations were: the presence of bus stops on intersections in one street or both, and road system features, such as the presence of traffic islands, vehicle flow and pedestrian flow.ConclusionsAccording to the urban network theory and multiple theory, the final elements resulted as risk factors due to a fault in connectivity between the nodes. A temporal analysis of urban features will help urban planners make decisions regarding the safety of pedestrians and other road users.
