Purpose The purpose of this study was to examine patient satisfaction with the quality of care in Ghana’s health-care facilities using a disaggregated approach. Design/methodology/approach The study was a cross-sectional national survey. A sample of 4,079 males and females in the age group of 15-49 years were interviewed. Descriptive statistics, principal component analysis and t-tests were used in statistical analysis. Findings About 70 per cent of patients were satisfied with the quality of care provided in health-care facilities in Ghana, whereas about 30 per cent of patients were fairly satisfied. Females and insured patients were more likely to be satisfied with the quality of care, compared with males and uninsured patients. Research limitations/implications Because data were obtained from a national survey, the questionnaire did not include the type of facility patients attended to find out whether satisfaction with the quality of care varied by the type of health facility. Future studies may, therefore, include this. Practical implications The study contributes to the literature on patient satisfaction with the quality of care. It highlights that long waiting time remains an intractable problem at various service delivery units of health facilities and constitutes a major source of patient dissatisfaction with the quality of care. Innovative measures must, therefore, be adopted to address the problem. Originality/value There is a paucity of research that uses a disaggregated approach to examine patient satisfaction with the quality of care at various service delivery units of health facilities. This study is a modest contribution to this research gap.

The hospital street is widely utilized in the modern health care facilities as a main traffic streamline to connecting all of the outpatient rooms and treatment departments for easy access. This study investigate the indoor environment quality of a typical hospital street, i.e., a high space atrium with ETFE membrane structure in the top. The investigation combines the on-site measurement and subjective survey. The results indicates that the indoor air temperature in the atrium reaches up to 32.6oC in a summer day causing thermal discomfort according to ASHRAE 55. The CO2, PM2.5, TVOC concentration in the hospital street comply with the Chinese standard for hospitals. The illumination in the corridors around the atrium is below the threshold of Chinese standard, i.e., 100 lux. Due to the vibration of the light ETFE membrane structure, the noise level in rainy days is as high as 79.5 dB which causes acoustic discomfort of occupants. This study is beneficial for the design of the hospital street design with the ETFE membrane structure.

The main problem encountered nowadays in the health field, especially in health care is the growing number of population and the decreasing health facilities. In this regard, healthcare kiosk is used as an alternative to the health care facilities. Heart disease is a dangerous one which could threaten human life. Many people have died due to heart disease and the surgery itself is still very expensive. To analyze heart diseases, doctor usually takes a video of the heart movement using ultrasound equipment to distinguish between normal and abnormal case. The results of analysis vary depending on the accuracy and experience of each doctor so it is difficult to determine the actual situation. Therefore, a method using healthcare kiosk to check the heart health is needed to help doctor and improve the health care facilities. The aim of this research is to develop healthcare kiosk which can be used to check the heart health. This research method is divided into three main parts: firstly, preprocessing to clarify the quality of the image.In this section, the writers propose a Median High Boost Filter method which is a combined method of Median Filtering and High Boost Filtering. Secondly, segmentation is used to obtain local cavities of the heart. In this part, the writers propose using Triangle Equation that is a new method to be developed. Thirdly, classification using Partial Monte Carlo method and artificial neural network method; these methods are used to measure the area of the heart cavity and discover the possibility of cardiac abnormalities. Methods for detecting heart health are placed in the kiosk. Therefore, it is expected to facilitate and improve the healthcare facilities.Keywords: Healthcare kiosk, heart health, reprocessing, segmentation, classification.
