Solid phase growth of thin films of copper (Cu), aluminum (Al) and zinc oxide (ZnO) on single crystalline sapphire and quartz glass substrates were tried by heat-treatments and their crystallization conditions were investigated. ZnO thin films relatively easily recrystallized even when they were deposited on the amorphous quartz glass substrate. On the other hand, Cu and Al thin films hardly recrystallized when they were deposited on the quartz glass substrate. The metal thin films could be recrystallized at only extremely narrow windows of the heat-treatment conditions when they were deposited on the single crystalline sapphire substrate. The window of the solid phase heteroepitaxial growth condition of the Al film was wider than that of the Cu film.

A layer of nano amorphous carbon was fabricated on the target substrate by precisely controlled magnetron sputtering, and then a layer of copper film was fabricated on the amorphous carbon. By using a vertical cold wall chemical vapor deposition system under protective atmosphere, the carbon atoms at high temperature was catalyzed by copper to form graphene films. The amorphous carbon nano thin film was converted into monolayer graphene on a SiO2 substrate directly. The experimental results show that the graphene film has high crystal quality and conductivity. Compared with other methods, the process is simple and the process window is wider. By virtue of this technique, a graphene-Si photodetector was also demonstrated. The photoelectric response and frequency characteristics have been studied which shows good device characteristics.

Time-resolved microscopic second harmonic generation (TRM-SHG) measurement was conducted to evaluate temperature dependence of the anisotropic carrier transport process in 6,13-Bis(triisopropylsilylethynyl) (TIPS) pentacene single crystalline domains for two orthogonal directions. Enhancement of the electric field induced SHG (EFI-SHG) signal at the electrode edge at low temperature suggests the presence of potential drop in the injection process. We directly evaluated temperature dependence of the carrier mobility by taking into account the potential drop, and concluded that the Marcus theory is appropriate to interpret the carrier transport in anisotropic TIPS pentacene thin film. TRM-SHG method is a facile and effective way to directly visualize transport process in anisotropic materials and to evaluate injection and transport processes simultaneously.
