Purpose The purpose of the paper is to describe the evolving regulatory structures of the civilian unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) in India and Japan, not yet fully developed to regulate the deployment of the UAV. India and Japan are at the forefront to overhaul the respective regulatory framework to address issues of accountability, responsibility and risks associated with the deployment of UAV technologies. Design/methodology/approach In-depth interviews are conducted both in Japan and India to gather primary data based on the snowball sampling method. The paper addresses questions such as what is the current scenario of civilian UAV deployment in India and Japan. What are the regulation structures for Civil UAV deployment and operation and how they differ in India and Japan? What are the key regulatory challenges for Civil UAV deployment in India? How regulation structure enables or inhibits the users and operators of Civil UAVs in India? What are mutual learnings concerning UAV regulations? Findings Findings reveal that the Indian regulations address issues of responsibility by imparting values of privacy, safety, autonomy and security; Japanese regulation prefers values of trust, responsibility, safety and ownership with more freedom to experiment. Originality/value The study on civilian UAV regulatory framework is a new and innovative work embedded by the dimensions of responsibility and accountability from a responsible innovation perspective. The work is a new contribution to innovation literature looked at from regulatory structures. Field visits to both Japan and India enrich the study to a new elevation.

Education in terminology is a conscious effort to change students’ attitudes and behavior towards maturity, with one of indicator is the ability to take responsibility and trust. Preservation of indigenous Traditional Cultural Properties (TCPs) is limited by narrow legal and procedural interpretation. First, indigenous communities (federally recognized or non-recognized) must often rely on the federal trust responsibility for site protection. Following the trust responsibility, federal agencies that hold indigenous TCPs must argue on behalf of indigenous interests for their protection. Such a structure is problematic, because federal agencies have multiple mandates to serve a broad public, despite the seniority of the tribal trust responsibility, and may not possess a full understanding of the importance of TCPs to indigenous communities. Second, courts are often loath to accept that different meanings of “preservation” exist within indigenous communities. For some indigenous people, sacred and/or storied geographies should be completely undeveloped and open only to traditional uses. For others, active engagement with these geographies by Native community members— even extractive use that may change their character— reinforces their importance and integration within the Native community. This paper approaches these issues from a particular contested TCP in the northeastern Sierra, examining case narratives, legal precedent, and interviews with stakeholders to assess how the site was ultimately left vulnerable to extractive mining despite its documented cultural importance, and how this may inform critical geographic perspectives on defining, stewarding, and protecting TCPs.

Abstract Education has always been at the heart of most, if not all, human endeavours. This explains the growing interest of many scholars in educational issues. Self-Reliance, one of Emerson’s most impressive and influential works, provides an outstanding contribution to education in general and particularly to the personal development of individuals in society. The relevance of the educational values addressed in Self-Reliance makes it an appropriate context for academic reflection. This paper scrutinises the educational dimension of Emerson’s work with a focus on language didactics. My concern is to provide evidence that the educational values expressed instruct didactics. The study of Self-Reliance reveals the expression of some values, the main ones being trust, responsibility, commitment, creativity, autonomy, independence, self-esteem, self-determination, self-evaluation, and individual talents. By reflecting on their educational dimension with a focus on their didactic implications I come to conclude that even though didactics does not draw directly on Emerson’s educational philosophy, it integrates some aspects, notably the values referred to in this paper.
