The pavement performance and extend service of life will be greatly improved by establish pavement sub drainage system to remove excessive water to the edge of highway in time. This paper designed three kinds of asphalt-treated permeable base (ATPB) with different opens grades, and according to the weather characteristics of the north China, their road performances such as water permeability, water stability, anti-cracking, mechanical property have been studied at low temperature by experiment. It is verified that ATPB-25 is more suitable as permeable base in cold area.

The physical properties of maize seeds are closely related to food processing and production. To study and evaluate the characteristics of maize seeds, typical maize seeds in a cold region of North China were used as test varieties. A variety of agricultural material test benches were built to measure the maize seeds’ physical parameters, such as thousand-grain weight, moisture content, triaxial arithmetic mean particle size, coefficient of static friction, coefficient of rolling friction, angle of natural repose, coefficient of restitution, and stiffness coefficient. Principal component and cluster comprehensive analyses were used to simplify the characteristic parameter index used to judge the comprehensive score of maize seeds. The results showed that there were significant differences in the main physical characteristics parameters of the typical maize varieties in this cold area, and there were different degrees of correlation among the physical characteristics. Principal component analysis was used to extract the first three principal component factors, whose cumulative contribution rate was over 80%, representing most of the information of the original eight physical characteristic parameters, and had good representativeness and objectivity. According to the test results, the classification standard of the evaluation of the physical characteristics of 15 kinds of maize seeds were determined, and appropriate evaluations were conducted. The 15 kinds of maize seeds were clustered into four groups by cluster analysis, and the physical characteristics of each groups were different. This study provides a new idea for the evaluation and analysis of the physical properties of agricultural materials, and provides a new method for the screening and classification of food processing raw materials.

Urban rivers are essential in retaining nutrients, but little is known about nitrogen cycling in these rivers in semiarid areas. We measured chemical and isotopic compositions of ammonium (NH4+-N) and nitrate (NO3−-N) to investigate spatial–temporal variation of nitrogen cycling in the Fuhe River in the North China Plain. Nitrogen pollution in the river was mainly induced by extra NH4+-N inputs which come from the discharges of urban sewage and effluents of wastewater treatment plants in upstream. NH4+-N obtained from decomposing organic matter of sediments can diffuse into the overlying water. Intense nitrification then occurs at the terrestrial–aquatic interface. Due to less vegetation in spring and autumn, loss of NH4+-N is mainly caused by nitrification. In contrast, significant NH4+-N is absorbed by plants in summer. NO3−-N generated from nitrification can be denitrified during the study period. The highest NO3−-N loss (about 86.3%) was observed in summer. The contribution of NO3−-N loss due to denitrification is 44.6%. The remaining 55.4% is due to plant uptake. The results suggested that nitrogen cycling in the river is related to temperature and dry–wet cycles. And vegetation restoration along the river could benefit the incremental improvements to the aquatic ecosystem.

The winter protection of biological species is important in many kinds of fruit production in North China. Environment techniques for overwintering cultivation of summer-bearing, fall-bearing red raspberry and blackberry were studied on open field and large plastic tunnels by analysis of growth and development of raspberry under three kinds of treatment method. The result showed that the shoots death rate was 100% on open field. But, the all shoots survived in other two treatments. The survival percent of seedling was over 90% in all treatments, the survival percent of blackberry was more than red raspberrys. There was not any germination of floricane on open field. The floricanes in plastic tunnels germinated 20-25 days earlier than mounding soil treatment. The germination of primocane on open field was 17-18 days later than in mounding soil and 34-40 days later than in plastic tunnel. The length of primocan on field including mounding soil and planting on open field was shorter than plants in tunnels at the same time. No. 47 black berry grew most rapidly in plastic tunnels among all treatments. The fruit yield per cane on open field was lowest among all cultivar, next was in mounding soil. There was no difference in fruit weight between different treatments of cold protection. The weight of No.47 black berry was around 2-3 times more than other cultivars in all treatments. The yield and fruit weight of raspberry were lower than other place including them in plastic tunnels. Therefore, the raspberry plants in plastic tunnels may live through winter better in dry and cold area without artificial heating. Mounding soil also is simple and good and economic method for its cold protection.
