Two new tropane alkaloid N-oxides substituted by a methylpyrrole moiety were isolated from the bark of Erythroxylum vacciniifolium Mart. (Erythroxylaceae), a Brazilian indigenous plant, locally known as catuaba and used in traditional medicine as an aphrodisiac. The alkaloid structures were determined by a combination of high resolution mass spectrometry and multi-dimensional NMR spectroscopy.

One-pot synthesis and the structure study of a new salt spiropyran of indoline series containing 2H-chromenic vinyl-3H-indolium fragment as a substituent at the position 8 are described. The structure was confirmed by the method of NMR 1H and 13C spectroscopy, IR and high-resolution mass spectrometry. The single crystals of the compound were investigated by X-ray analysis. The structure was compared with the previously known isostructural analogue [10].

A new glucuronolactone glycoside, phoenixoside B (1), has been isolated from the n-butanol soluble fraction of seeds of Phoenix dactylifera. The structure was characterized as 1-(1-ethyl-β-D-glucosyl)-4,5-diethyl-[α-D-glucofuranourono-6,3-lactone] on the basis of 1D and 2D-NMR spectroscopy and high-resolution mass spectrometry.

The 1,2,3-triazole and 1 H-1,2,3-benzotriazole-substituted 6,7-dihydroindolizin-8(5 H)-one derivatives were synthesized by the reaction of ( E)-7-(arylmethylidene)-6,7-dihydroindolizin-8(5 H)-ones with 1,2,3-triazole and 1 H-1,2,3-benzotriazole in the presence of Selectfluor in moderate yield. The structures of all the products were characterized thoroughly by nuclear magnetic resonance, infrared, and high-resolution mass spectrometry together with X-ray crystallographic analysis.

Background: The high resolving and accuracy power of the HRMS instrument enabled us to identify the product ions and to propose detailed fragmentation pathways and diagnostic fragment ions. Methods: In the present work, the fragmentation pathways of five sulfonamides antibiotics, namely sulfamerazine, sulfathiazole, sulfadiazine, sulfadimethoxine and sulfamethoxazole, by High-Resolution Mass Spectrometry (HRMS) are presented. The HRMS spectra were recorded with a Q-TOF (Time of Flight) spectrometer with Electrospray Ionization (ESI) in both negative and positive mode. Results: Specific characteristic ions for each one of the sulfonamide antibiotics under positive ESI mode are proposed for the first time. Fragment ions of this particular class of analytes may be used to rapidly identify compounds with common structural features. Conclusion: The direct infusion of plasma samples, avoiding any prior chromatographic steps, to identify the existence of sulfonamide antibiotics is demonstrated herein.
