Structural analysis of x Ag 2 O · (100-x)[ B 2 O 3 · As 2 O 3] glass system, with 0 ≤ x ≤ 10 mol%, was performed by means of FT-IR and Raman spectroscopies. The purpose of this work is to investigate the structural changes that appear in the B 2 O 3 · As 2 O 3 glass matrix with the addition and increase of silver ion content. Boroxol rings, pyro-, ortho-, di-, tri-, tetra- and penta-borate groups, structural units characteristic to As 2 O 3 were found in the structure of the studied glasses. FT-IR spectroscopy measurements show that BO 3 units are the main structural units of the glass system. The presence of structural units characteristic to Ag 2 O were not directly evidenced by FT-IR spectroscopy. The Raman analysis leads to similar conclusions as the FT-IR measurements.

Abstract In this study, sonochemical-assisted magnesium borate synthesis is studied from different boron sources. Various reaction parameters are successfully applied by a simple and green method. X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) and Raman spectroscopies are used to characterize the synthesized magnesium borates on the other hand surface morphologies are investigated by using scanning electron microscope (SEM). The XRD analyses showed that the products were admontite [MgO(B2O3)3 · 7(H2O)] with JCPDS (Joint Committee on Powder Diffraction Standards) no. of 01-076-0540 and mcallisterite [Mg2(B6O7(OH)6)2 · 9(H2O)] with JCPDS no. of 01-070-1902. The results that found in the spectroscopic studies were in a good agreement with characteristic magnesium borate bands in both regions of infra-red and visible. According to SEM results, obtained borates were in micro and sub-micro scales. By the use of ultrasonication, reaction yields were found between 84.2 and 97.9%. As a result, it is concluded that the sonochemical approach is a practicable synthesis method to get high efficiency and high crystallinity in the synthesis magnesium borate compounds.

The material employed in this study is an ecoefficient, environmentally friendly, chromium (VI)-free (noncarcinogenic) metal polymer. The originality of the research lies in the study of the effect of new production procedures of salmon on metal packaging with multilayer polyethylene terephthalate (PET) polymer coatings. Our hypothesis states that the adhesion of postmortem salmon muscles to the PET polymer coating produces surface and structural changes that affect the functionality and limit the useful life of metal containers, compromising therefore their recycling capacity as ecomaterials. This work is focused on studying the effects of the biochemical changes of postmortem salmon on the PET coating and how muscle degradation favors adhesion to the container. The experimental design considered a series of laboratory tests of containers simulating the conditions of canned salmon, chemical and physical tests of food-contact canning to evaluate the adhesion, and characterization of changes in the multilayer PET polymer by electron microscopy, ATR, FT-IR, and Raman spectroscopy analyses. The analyses determined the effect of heat treatment of containers on the loss of freshness of canned fish and the increased adhesion to the container wall, and the limited capability of the urea treatment to remove salmon muscle from the container for recycling purposes.

Fish protein isolates extracted from underutilised fish species were used for coating material of anchovy oils and their nutritive value was investigated in this study. For this purpose, Klunzinger’s ponyfish (Equulites klunzingeri) proteins were extracted by using pH shifting process. Micro particles were prepared with anchovy oil (Engraulis encrasicolus) as core material (10%), and as wall materials a ratio of 5% and 10% fish protein isolate (FPI) was used. Maltodextrin (DE: 18:20) was added to both groups in a ratio of 10%. The emulsions were fed immediately into a Buchi Mini Spray Dryer (B290, Switzerland). The inlet temperatures, feed rate and aspiration rate were maintained at 160 oC, 15 mL/min and 35m3/h, respectively. The lipid, protein and moisture contents of anchovy oil microcapsules containing 5% FPI and 10% FPI were found as 43.76-43.09%, 4.34- 9.82% and 3.95-3.92%, respectively. The main amino acids in microcapsule samples were lysine, glutamic acid, and leucine which constituted in the range of 349-578 mg/100 g sample for microcapsules containing 5% FPI, and 805-1547 mg/100 g sample for microcapsules containing 10% FPI. In addition to that, essential and non-essential amino acids (E/NE) ratio for microencapsulated fish oil with 5% FPI and 10% FPI were determined 0.92 and 0.95, respectively. As a result of this study, it can be concluded that the addition of fish protein isolate enhanced the nutritive value of microencapsulated fish oil
