In 2004, a counterexample was given for a 1965 result of R. J. Elliott claiming that discrete spectral synthesis holds on every Abelian group. Since then the investigation of discrete spectral analysis and synthesis has gained traction. Characterizations of the Abelian groups that possess spectral analysis and spectral synthesis, respectively, were published in 2005. A characterization of the varieties on discrete Abelian groups enjoying spectral synthesis is still missing. We present a ring theoretical approach to the issue. In particular, we provide a generalization of the Principal Ideal Theorem on discrete Abelian groups.

The article considers the erotic genre of traditional Chinese art, chun gong hua (‘spring palace paintings’), which was developed in painting. The study uses comparative - historical, cultural and historical methods, as well as methods of systematization, analysis and synthesis. The author traces the formation and evolution of the genre, reveals its specific features. The paper analyzes the system of artistic images of the works of chun gong hua, reveals that they are based on the ideas of Taoism, which are visualized through painting, which made it possible to reveal a second, meaningful plan of paintings filled with metaphors and allegories. Particular attention is paid to the characterization of expressive means, specific techniques and visual techniques of the genre. The study shows that due to the richness of images, artistic and expressive means and techniques, juxtaposition of the conditional and the real, double transformation of nature, the first impression of seemingly pornographic images of naked bodies and erotic scenes is subdued. The high artistry of the ‘spring palace paintings’ allows us to attribute them to the unique works of Chinese traditional art.

AbstractContainerization technology offers an appealing alternative for encapsulating and operating applications (and all their dependencies) without being constrained by the performance penalties of using Virtual Machines and, as a result, has got the interest of the High-Performance Computing (HPC) community to obtain fast, customized, portable, flexible, and reproducible deployments of their workloads. Previous work on this area has demonstrated that containerized HPC applications can exploit InfiniBand networks, but has ignored the potential of multi-container deployments which partition the processes that belong to each application into multiple containers in each host. Partitioning HPC applications has demonstrated to be useful when using virtual machines by constraining them to a single NUMA (Non-Uniform Memory Access) domain. This paper conducts a systematical study on the performance of multi-container deployments with different network fabrics and protocols, focusing especially on Infiniband networks. We analyze the impact of container granularity and its potential to exploit processor and memory affinity to improve applications’ performance. Our results show that default Singularity can achieve near bare-metal performance but does not support fine-grain multi-container deployments. Docker and Singularity-instance have similar behavior in terms of the performance of deployment schemes with different container granularity and affinity. This behavior differs for the several network fabrics and protocols, and depends as well on the application communication patterns and the message size. Moreover, deployments on Infiniband are also more impacted by the computation and memory allocation, and because of that, they can exploit the affinity better.

Cultural diplomacy is studied as a topical scientific object in the context of development and further institutionalization of international strategic communications of Ukraine. The author considers it expedient to single out in the technology of international strategic communications in general and in cultural diplomacy in particular three levels of implementation: practical (activity); scientific (theoretical); media (informing about cultural projects and endeavors, first of all, international ones; strengthening their effects, expanding the audience of sympathizers and supporters of Ukraine; dispelling ideological and worldview stereotypes, breaking down hostile destructive narratives about Ukraine). The latter is considered a prerequisite for conveying important cultural narratives. The aim of the paper was to define the essence of cultural diplomacy as a component of public diplomacy precisely through media representation. This specified the following tasks: sampling of media texts with reference to cultural diplomacy; characterization of semantic characteristics of nomination and directions of semantic realization of its meaning; tracing the role and place of cultural diplomacy in the system of international strategic communications, based on the analysis and generalization of media discourse; identification of cultural diplomacy’s main tools, formulation of problems and prospects of media reflection. The empirical basis of the study was media texts from such Ukrainian newspapers as «Den», «Dzerkalo Tyzhnia», «Ukraina Moloda», «Holos Ukrainy», and others over the past five years (a total of over 70 publications of various genres), in which cultural diplomacy is reflected as an important element of interstate cooperation. With the use of scientific methods of continuous sampling, quantitative method of content analysis, descriptive and comparative methods, analysis and synthesis method, the use of the «cultural diplomacy» nomination is traced, the attention is focused on the tasks and effective forms of its implementation. The paper proved the necessity of further institutionalization of cultural diplomacy as a set of endeavors aimed at promoting the interests of the state by means of culture, art, education, cultural industries in general; expanding the range of subjects and potential recipients; increase of the resources directed on it: intellectual, expert, consulting, financial ones.

Abstract The choice of a measurement strategy in multi-station machining systems is crucial for subsequent successful identification of the root causes of machining errors. The measurement strategy selection is currently not a systematic process and it involves human and expert intervention. Recent advances in the linear state-space modeling of multi-station machining processes facilitate a more formal characterization of measurements in machining and a more systematic approach in the selection of the features that need to be measured. In this paper, we employ the Stream of Variation methodology to evaluate various measurement schemes in multi-station machining systems. Based on this evaluation, measurement synthesis procedures are presented, such that the resulting measurement scheme achieves a tradeoff between measurement uncertainty and the cost of measurements.

This study offers insight into the processes of expert designers at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) and how they make use of heuristics in the design process. A methodology for the extraction, classification, and characterization of heuristics is presented. Ten expert participants were interviewed to identify design heuristics used during early stage space mission design at JPL. In total, 101 heuristics were obtained, classified, and characterized. Through the use of postinterview surveys, participants characterized heuristics based on attributes including source/origin, applicability based on concept maturity, frequency of use, reliability, and tendency to evolve. These findings are presented, and statistically analyzed to show correlations between the participant perceptions of frequency of use, reliability, and evolution of a heuristic. Survey results and analysis aim to identify valid attributes for assessing the applicability and value of multiple heuristics for design practice in early space mission formulation.
