Objectives: The relationship between poverty and health has been well addressed in public health research. The health effects of social and economic inequalities on working groups have also drawn the attention of occupational health scholars. Research addressing workers in low-paying jobs showed increased risks for poor health. This research examined the psychosocial factors associated with poor mental health and self-rated health among low-income bakery workers performing demanding tasks. Methods: Face-to-face interviews in 504 randomly selected bakeries in Lebanon provided data on socio-demographics, perception of the workplace environment, job security, job satisfaction, general health, and mental health. Results: In total, 16.5% of bakery workers reported poor self-rated health, and 45% reported poor mental health. Workers with a chronic illness were almost three times more likely to report poor self-rated health (OR = 2.86; 95% CI = 1.44–5.67), and those with musculoskeletal pain reported poor self-rated health five times as often (OR = 5.34; 95% CI = 2.9–9.80). Those with a chronic illness and musculoskeletal pain were twice as likely to report poor mental health (OR = 1.94; 95% CI = 1.07–3.50 and OR = 2.07; 95% CI = 1.32–3.23, respectively); and those dissatisfied with their job reported poorer self-rated health (OR = 2.18; 95% CI = 1.12–4.23) and mental health (OR = 2.57; 95% CI = 1.54–4.26). In addition, workers reporting job insecurity had poor mental health twice as often (OR = 1.93; 95% CI = 1.24–2.99). Low socioeconomic indicators showed a gradient association with both poor self-rated health and mental health. Conclusion: Reporting job dissatisfaction and insecurity, musculoskeletal pain, and chronic illness were associated with poor mental and self-rated health among bakery workers. Interventions to improve the working conditions of bakery workers are timely and essential. This research provided evidence for policy to guide occupational health practice and safeguard the health of bakery workers.

Abstract Background Health workers, in short supply in many low-and-middle-income countries, are at increased risk of SARS-CoV-2 infection. This study aimed to assess how South Africa, prepared to protect its health workers from SARS-CoV-2 infection. Methods This was a cross-sectional study design applying participatory action research in four provinces of South Africa. A semi-structured questionnaire and a qualitative observational HealthWISE walkthrough risk assessment was carried out to collect data on occupational safety and health (OSH) systems in 45 hospitals across four provinces to identify factors associated with health worker protection. Adapting the International Labour Organization (ILO) and World Health Organization (WHO) HealthWISE tool, we compiled compliance scores through walkthrough surveys. We used logistic regression to analyze the relationship between readiness indicators and the actual implementation of protective measures. Results We found that health facilities in all four provinces had SARS-CoV-2 plans for the general population but no comprehensive OHS plan for health workers. Provincial Departments of Health (PDoH) varied in how they were organized to respond: Provinces A and D had an OSH SARS-CoV-2 provincial coordinating team and a dedicated budget for occupational health; Province A had an occupational health doctor and nurse; while Province B had an occupational health nurse; Province A and D PDoHs had functional OSH committees; and Province D had conducted some health risk assessments specific to SARS-CoV-2. However, none of the assessed health facilities had an acceptable HealthWISE compliance score (≥ 75%) due to poor ventilation and inadequate administrative control measures. While the supply of personal protective equipment was adequate, it was often not worn properly. Our study found that having an OSH SARS-CoV-2 policy was significantly associated with higher personal protective equipment and ventilation scores. In addition, our analysis showed that hospitals with higher compliance scores had significantly lower infection rates (IRR 0.98; 95% CI: 0.97, 0.98). Conclusions Despite some initial preparedness, greater effort to protect health workers is still warranted. Low-and-middle-income countries may need to pay more attention to OSH systems and consider using tools, such as ILO/WHO HealthWISE tool, to protect health workers’ health.

This study aims to determine the effect of occupational health safety to employee productivity at PT Pindad (Persero). In this study, occupational health safety is the independent variable (X) and employee productivity is the dependent variable (Y). This research is a quantitative research used descriptive method and survey method. By type and method of the study, data analysis used is descriptive analysis, a classic assumption test, regression test, correlation and hypothesis testing. This study Table Krejcie to determine the sample. By using krejcie table can be seen what will be the sample of respondents. The sample in this study were 140 respondents who are employees of PT Pindad (Persero). Results of simple linear regression, obtained by the equation Y = 33.867 + 0.209 X with R-Square of 0.603. It shows that the variable quality of work life of 60.3% impact on work productivity, while labor productivity by 39.7% influenced by other things such as work attitude, leadership, control, management of labor productivity and efficiency so that is not explained in this study. Background: Sleep disorders can result in sleepiness, fatigue, and apathy, and may contribute to serious occupational consequences such as errors at work. The aim of the study was to examine the level of insomnia, sleepiness, and fatigue in a sample of Polish nurses. Methods: The research was conducted among nurses employed in the Lublin region of Poland. A sample of nurses were invited to participate in a survey in which we measured insomnia, sleepiness, and fatigue using the Athens Insomnia Scale (AIS), the Epworth Sleepiness Scale (ESS), and the Fatigue Severity Scale (FSS). Findings: Among the 200 nurses that were surveyed, 141 (70.5%) responded. The findings indicated that a total of 47.8% of the surveyed nurses reported insomnia. Half (50.0%) exceeded the threshold for fatigue relative to the general population. Although no differences in fatigue and sleepiness were observed by level of insomnia between those who did and did not work night shift, we observed an overall correlation between insomnia (AIS) and sleepiness (ESS), as well as between insomnia (AIS) and fatigue (FSS). Conclusions/Application to practice: This sample of Polish nurses displayed problems with sleep quality. The consequences of insomnia and fatigue challenge occupational health workers to go beyond traditional care and standard diagnostic tests. Undertaking preventive measures aimed at reducing health hazards, and the risk of making a mistake at work due to increased sleepiness and fatigue, in nurses are warranted.

At the end of December 1929, the IV All-Union Meeting of the Scientific Advisory Bureau (NKB) of the Medsantrud Union was held in Moscow, dedicated to the study of professional hazards in medical labor. From the reports of the NKB in Moscow, Leningrad, Kharkov and other cities, it was revealed that, despite the scarcity of material resources, they had done quite a lot of work and accumulated a lot of scientific material in the field of studying occupational pathology and occupational health of medical labor. The work of the NKB in the last year, as before, was of a scientific and practical nature and was mainly focused on the following issues: 1) research on the labor and health of health workers in resorts, prisons, dentists, midwives, veterinarians, pharmacy workers, etc .; 2) the study of infectiousness, injury and disability; 3) a scientific survey of the load norms of certain categories; 4) the development of sanitary and hygienic standards of medical institutions, etc. The result of the work of the NKB was the implementation of a whole series of measures, such as: expanding the rights and benefits of workers in psychiatric hospitals, places of detention, light cabinets, etc.
