The high energy radiation overcome the bonding of solute in a solution and H2O2 acts as an oxidizing agent and generates a free radical in the solution which results in photo-degradation by converting the solute in to simple form and resultantly, colored substance under the effect of photo-degradation becomes colorless. The photo-degradation of monoazo dye Blue 13 in an aqueous solution was investigated using a laboratory scale UV lamp in the presence of H2O2 and for maximum degradation of dye, the independent parameter UV power, UV exposure time, pH and H2O2 concentration were optimized. It was found that neither UV in the presence of H2O2 is able to degrade Blue 13 under optimum condition. The results revealed that the use of both UV and H2O2 have pronounced effect on the discoloration of dyes which could be used for management of textile effluents contain waste dyes.

Objective: ZnO nanoparticles were synthesized using wet impregnation method, and activated carbon from rice straw (RS) prepared through chemical route. Methods: The nano-composites ZnO-AC series were prepared with different ZnO:AC ratio of 10, 20, 50, and 70% to optimize the zinc oxide nanoparticles used. The obtained composites were characterized by FE-SEM, XRD, SBET, and optical techniques then used for the photo-degradation of Malachite green dye (MG) under visible light. Results: It was found that 10ZnO-AC exhibited excellent visible light photo-catalytic performance. The ·OH radicals’ formation is matching with photo-activity of the prepared composites. The photo-degradation efficiency of MG increased from 63% to 93%, when the 10ZnO-AC photocatalyst amount was increased from 0.5 to 6 g/L. Conclusion: The GC-MS technique was used to analyze the intermediates formed; up to 15 kinds of chemicals were identified as the degradation products.

Abstract This study reports a green approach for the modification of titanium dioxide (TiO2) nanoparticles with immobilization of silver nanoparticles. One of the natural sources i.e., Mangifera indica leaf extract was utilized as reducing and capping agent for the fabrication of Ag-TiO2 nanocatalyst. Further, the surface morphology and band-gap energy of prepared Ag-TiO2 were analyzed by Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), Energy Dispersive X-ray Spectroscopy (EDS) and UV–Vis spectroscopy. Also, it was characterized by X-ray Powder Diffraction (XRD) which provides the information regarding the crystallinity of the Ag-TiO2. Subsequently, photo activity of Ag-TiO2 was investigated for the degradation of methylene blue (MB) dye wastewater through visible light driven photoreactor. The Ag-TiO2 provided highest (68%) of photo-degradation efficiency within 110 min for 7.81 × 10−5 mol/L initial MB concentration at pH 8 by using 0.19 g/L photocatalyst. Further, addition of 10 mM H2O2 boost up the MB photodegradation to 74%. The kinetic study confirmed the MB degradation followed first order rate of reaction.
