Abstract Two types of urine protein dipsticks and the sulfosalicylic acid method were compared for their accuracy and specificity, with use of urine samples supplemented with various proteins. Dipsticks yield accurate results when the protein under consideration is restricted to albumin; the sulfosalicylic acid method accurately determines many kinds of proteins in addition to albumin. Detergents affect each of the methods, but changes in salt concentration only affect results by dipstick procedures. Dipsticks, which are based on the protein-error principle for indicators, are subject to some of the conditions that apply to the bromcresol green method for serum albumin determination.

Based on the traditional theory of transient plane source for thermal conductivity measurement, this paper designed and developed a new pattern of heating and temperature sensing probe, presented the study of transient heat conduction of half-infinite plane while being heated, established a modified mathematical model of transient plane source method, and achieved the measurement of thermal conductivity of automotive interior material sample by the data processing method of mathematical iteration and liner regression using the modified transient plane source probe. According to the data of experiments, the instrument which this paper designed has a high precision of 5% and a wide range of 0.003-1W/(mK).This paper provides a practicable way for heat capacity determination of automotive interior materials.

Abstract The albumin values determined by the bromcresol green methods do not compare well with values by more specific methods for albumin determination. The discrepancies have been related to, among other things, acute-phase reactants and are especially pronounced in the lower albumin range. These disadvantages are also inherent in a routine continuous-flow method for albumin (SMAC). The bromcresol green method has been improved considerably by shortening the reaction time before the absorbance is measured, as is described here. The modified method yields values that better agree with those by more specific methods and an influence of acute-phase reactants is no longer observed.

Abstract Methodological modifications have been made in our "SMA 12/60 AutoAnalyzer" system, to improve the reproducibility and accuracy of six commonly performed procedures. These include glucose with the glucose oxidase method, albumin with the bromcresol green method, and alkaline phosphatase with the sodium thymolphthalein monophosphate method. We have also modified the composition of the reagents used in the determination of protein, inorganic phosphate, and aspartate aminotransferase. A general approach that is useful for adapting a new method to a multichannel AutoAnalyzer system is discussed.

Vegetable oil is one of rice bran components. As triglycerides, vegetable oil can be converted to fatty acid and alkyl esters for further treatments. Synthesis of alkyl ester oil can be carried out by esterification or transesterification reaction, depending on the quality of the oil and the catalyst. The purposes of this study are 1) Rice bran oil isolation, 2) Oil esterification 3) Characterization and identification of the methyl ester that compose rice bran oil. The stages in this research are 1) Extraction of rice bran oil, 2) Synthesis of methyl ester from rice bran through esterification reaction, 3) Methyl ester characterization of rice bran oil and its potential test as biodiesel included determination of density, viscosity, refractive index, and acid number test, 4) The identification of synthesized methyl esters composition using GC-MS. The results showed that rice bran oil has a yield of 18.09%. Synthesis of methyl esters from rice bran oil through the esterification reaction with a catalyst acid yields 72.37%. The characters of the synthesized methyl ester are on the range of biodiesel quality standards, namely, the density is 0.850 g/mL, viscosity is 4.73 cSt, a refractive index is 1.45871, and an acid number is 0.76 g KOH/g methyl ester, therefore it is claimed that the synthesized methyl esters have the potential as biodiesel. The GC-MS result showed the presence of compounds methyl tetradecanoate (0.38%), methyl hexadecanoate (40.67%), methyl 9-octadecenoate (53.68%), methyl octadecanoate (5.02%), and methyl eicosanoate (0.14%).
