Abstract Objective: General concept of neo-institutional measurements of business processes is an approach developed by the author, which fits in with the practical search for appropriate methods and tools that would optimize effectiveness and efficiency of business process management. The objective of the following discussion is to prove the thesis that effectiveness of business processes that take place within a company depends on the quality of support of such processes that is included in the set of supporting factors, as well as on neo-institutional determinants of business processes. Methodology: In the article, the author used primarily long-term observations of the functioning of enterprises, critical literature analysis and thought experiment. Findings: The concept was based on long-term of author’s experience in business management and it was essentially grounded in the model of the new institutional economics. On the basis of critical analysis of the literature and with the use of empirical research results from different industries and countries, it defines four hypotheses, which make ground for the concept in question. These are: hypothesis of rational change of condition, hypothesis of expected determinants of business processes, hypothesis of rational determinants of business processes and intensity of impact hypothesis. Value Added: The concept presents a new holistic and behavioral method for business processes analysis. Recommendations: The general concept of neo-institutional measurements of business processes may become a new economic approach concerning the issues of effectiveness and efficiency of business processes, but also it may become the ground for creation of a new catalogue of recommendations for managers, who, on a daily basis, make difficult managerial decisions.

Currently, in conditions of Industry 4.0, the use of cyber-physical systems in various fields is becoming widespread. This article is devoted to the problem of estimating CPS sustainability in the context of modern challenges faced by decision makers and IT developers in order to ensure effective proactive business process management using this innovative technology. The purpose of the research is to propose and substantiate a methodology for estimating CPS sustainability to ensure the reliability and strength of its elements, their interrelationships and interaction, as well as the effective functioning and development of this system in conditions of high dynamism and uncertainty of the external environment. In this study, we used methods of integral evaluation, synthesis, expert assessments, dynamic analysis, and systematic approach, and coined the term ‘CPS sustainability’. Our study showed that negative risks, external and internal threats may have a significant adverse impact on CPS sustainability. The reliability of this system should be evaluated on the basis of integrated indicators. The key indicators, reflecting the reliability of maintaining the properties of the CPS in a normal state of its function and further development, were identified. We propose a methodology for estimating CPS sustainability. In general, the presented results form the basis for improving CPS management to increase the effectiveness and efficiency of its functioning and development.

Business Process Management (BPM) can improve organizational effectiveness and efficiency by optimizing the performance of cross-functional processes. Despite its potential, BPM deployment success has been mixed, due in part to the substantial changes required within the organization. Three changes considered necessary for BPM deployment success include a properly defined business process organizational infrastructure (complete with formal positions and competencies), boundary-spanning process ownership, and boundary-spanning process governance. However, given that BPM has largely been driven by practitioners, deployment details often vary by company. The present research examined the extent that these deployment details were industry related, and found significant differences between the manufacturing and service sectors in terms of organizational infrastructure and process ownership. These findings provide further evidence that a ‘one-size-fits-all’ approach to BPM does not exist, and that differences in BPM deployment decisions can be related to industry sector.

SummaryRadiobiological and cell biological knowledge is increasingly used to further improve local tumour control or to reduce normal tissue damage after radiotherapy. Important research areas are evolving which need to be addressed jointly by nuclear medicine and radiation oncology. For this differences of the biological distribution of diagnostic and therapeutic nuclides compared with the more homogenous dose-distribution of external beam radiotherapy have to be taken into consideration. Examples for interdisciplinary biology-based cancer research in radiation oncology and nuclear medicine include bioimaging of radiobiological parameters characterizing radioresistance, bioimage-guided adaptive radiotherapy, and the combination of radiotherapy with molecular targeted drugs.

Summary:PET/CT imaging is most likely to be of use in radiation oncology with patients who have poorly defined target volume areas, e.g. brain tumours, bronchogenic carcinoma, and cases of miscellaneous geographical miss. Other tumours that call for dose escalated radiotherapy, such as head and neck tumours, bronchogenic carcinoma, and prostate carcinomas may further benefit from an accurate delineation of the metabolically active tumour volume and its differentiation from surrounding healthy tissue, or tumour atelectasis.
