The present study aimed to 1) investigate English teachers’ perspectives on using music in English teaching in Thai secondary schools; and 2) explore the problems teachers met while using music to teach English in Thai secondary schools. Participants in the present study were 55 English teachers from different secondary schools in central Bangkok, Thailand. The instrument for the current study was a questionnaire which included 24 Likert-scale items about teachers’ perspectives involving the attitudes, beliefs, intentions and problems of using music in English teaching, and one open-ended question asking about the problems teachers met while using music in their English teaching. Results from the quantitative data of the current study revealed the significantly positive attitudes and beliefs of the English teachers in Thai secondary schools on using music in English teaching, however, the results of open-ended question mismatched with the teachers’ attitudes and beliefs, which indicated that teachers actually did not use music in their English teaching frequently. The reasons and recommendations for future research have been discussed.

The paper introduces a preliminary study of teachers’ awareness and attitudes toward ELF in two different language contexts, where English has the status of English as a Lingua Franca (ELF) and English as a Foreign Language (EFL). The exploratory study was based on the survey method and an online questionnaire was completed by 20 teachers from each region in July-August, 2016. Participants reported on their attitudes toward ELF, beliefs on Standard English, opinions on widespread of English, etc. The data obtained on Standard English within this research are broadly consistent with the trend of the inner circle. The results have indicated that ELF is a crucial topic for both regions and it is noteworthy to provide future English language teachers with expertise on ELF and the ways of its incorporation in language courses.

The Common European of Framework Reference (CEFR) is a standardized measurement recognized by western countries to evaluate English proficiency. Unsatisfactory English level among student should be elevated. Hence, CEFR is being implemented simultaneously throughout Malaysia since 2017 for Year one and Year two students. Each English teacher must be prepared to accept any change in order to manage the changes efficiently and effectively as they are the "implementing group" to commence the change. This study was conducted to examine the level of English language teachers' attitudes towards the implementation of CEFR in Bangsar Pudu, Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur by using survey research. This study adopted the Concern Based Adoptance Model (CBAM) as a theoretical framework. The data were collected from 205 English teachers from 101 schools using questionnaires on Stages of Concern Questionnaire (SoCQ) based on the CBAM model. Through ANOVA One-way analysis, there was a significant difference between teacher concerns in the teaching experience more than 30 years in CEFR compared to other teachers. However, there is no significant difference in the academic level of English teachers. The findings of this study are believed to help the Ministry of Education to identify and improve the implementation of CEFR curriculum.
