Perovskite crystal structure is found in many ionic solids like CaTiO3, BaTiO3 and PZTs. In this structure off-center position of cations in oxygen octahedral causes polarization and produces direct and indirect piezoelectric responses in ceramic materials that are suitable for many ultrasonic applications. Lead Zirconate Titanate (PZT) with formulae Pb0.91Sr0.09(Zr0.53 Ti0.47)O3 was prepared by conventional mixed oxide route with an objective to achieve dense piezoelectric sintered components exhibiting adequate properties for sonar applications. Dielectric and ferroelectric/piezoelectric properties of PZT are strongly influenced by composition, homogeneity and porosity in the densified part. To achieve the objective of a good homogenous and dense body, the initial powders and the final product were characterized by SEM equipped with EDX, XRD and Particle Size Analyzer during each processing step. Electrical characterization was carried out by LCR meter and Transducer Analyzer. Planetary Mill instead of a conventional ball mill was employed for initial mixing and grinding of calcined powder. Properties achieved by sintering at 1200°C for 2 hours in lead rich atmosphere were Dielectric Cosntant (K) = 1440, Tangent Loss (Tanδ) = 0.0062, Charge Coefficient(d33) = 335 pC/N, Coupling Coefficient (k) = 0.37 and density = 7.55 g/cm3. After sintering the observed grain size was 2-3 µm with clean grain boundaries. To ascertain the effects of accelerated ageing on dielectric and piezoelectric properties, final product was first heated at 50°C for 5 days and then at 100°C for 3 days. The results showed that dielectric and piezoelectric properties were stabilized to a large extent by heating at 100°C for 3 days. The ageing data for 9% Sr doped PZT is not reported earlier, therefore, it would help in great deal in predicting the performance of component in service

In the present paper (1-x)Pb (Zr1-yTiy)O3 – xPb (Mn1/3Sb2/3)O3 – z at%E system, with E = Pr3+, Nd5+ and Gd3+ where x = 0.12; y = 0.48; z = 0 and 0.02 ceramic synthesized by solid state reaction technique is analysed. The investigation aims studying of the effect of dopants on the dielectric and piezoelectric properties of such piezoelectric ceramic. The prepared powders have been uniaxially pressed into discs with diameter of 10 – 12 mm and thickness of 1.2 mm. Sintering has been carried out in air atmosphere at temperatures of 1150°C and 1200°C, respectively, for 2 hours each, followed by a controlled cooling at a rate of 200°C /h. The piezoelectric properties have been investigated after a suitable preparation, including polishing, metallization. The structure of the samples has been determined by X-ray diffractometry (XRD), while the morphology and grains size have been investigated by the scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The piezoelectric properties have been studied by the resonance - antiresonance method. XRD analysis reveals a perovskite tetragonal structure and, as expected for ceramic materials, SEM analysis indicates that the average grain size increases as sintering temperature increases. The dielectric and piezoelectric properties have been determined measuring the ceramic discs, and properties, as dielectric permittivity (εr), dielectric loss (tg δ), and the electromechanical coupling factor (kp) have been obtained. The acquired results indicate a significant effect of the dopants on the dielectric and piezoelectric properties of such materials.

Lanthanum-modified BaTiO3 electroceramic materials have superior dielectric and piezoelectric properties. Ba0.996La0.004Ti0.999O3 (BLT4) seems to be a serious candidate for ultracondensator applications. This manuscript describes the results of hafnium and europium modification of BLT 4 ceramics. The pure and doped ceramic materials were synthesized by the conventional mixed oxide method. The microstructure of obtained samples was examined by scanning electron microscope. The investigations reveal strong correlations between the presence of admixture and the grain size, which was especially visible in the case of the hafnium dopant. The frequency and temperature dielectric characteristics measurements revealed a decrease in electric permittivity. Moreover, the impedance spectroscopy investigations showed severe changes in grains and grain-boundary resistivity, which was connected with changes in electric conductivity.

This work shows the influence of admixture on the basic properties of the multicomponent PbZr1−xTixO3 (PZT)-type ceramics. It presents the results of four compositions of PZT-type material with the general chemical formula, Pb0.99M0.01((Zr0.49Ti0.51)0.95Mn0.021Sb0.016W0.013)0.9975O3, where, in the M position, a donor admixture was introduced, i.e., samarium (Sm3+), gadolinium (Gd3+), dysprosium (Dy3+) or lanthanum (La3+). The compositions of the PZT-type ceramics were obtained through the classic ceramic method, as a result of the synthesis of simple oxides. The X-ray diffraction (XRD) pattern studies showed that the obtained multicomponent PZT materials have a tetragonal structure with a P4mm point group. The microstructure of the obtained compositions is characterized by a well crystallized grain, with clearly visible grain boundaries. The composition with the admixture of lanthanum has the highest uniformity of fine grain microstructure, which positively affects its final dielectric and piezoelectric properties. In the multicomponent PZT-type ceramic, materials utilize the mixed (acceptor and donor) doping of the main compound. This dopiong method has a positive effect on the set of the electrophysical parameters of ceramic materials. Donor dopants W6+ (at positions B) and M3+ = Sm3+, Gd3+, Dy3+, and La3+ (at positions A) increase the dielectric and piezoelectric properties, while the acceptor dopant Sb3+ (at positions B) increases the time and temperature stability of the electrophysical parameters. In addition, the suitable selection of the set of admixtures improved the sinterability of the ceramic samples, as well as resulted in obtaining the required material with good piezoelectric parameters for the poling process. This research confirms that all ceramic compositions have a set of parameters suitable for applications in micromechatronics, for example, as actuators, piezoelectric transducers, and precision microswitches.

The ε33T/ε0 and d33 values of ACP 0.66PIN–0.34PT crystals are shown to be 3070 and 1400 pC N−1, respectively, which are 14% and 18% larger than those of a DCP sample, owing to the enhancement of both intrinsic and extrinsic contributions.
