Nowadays healthcare has a completely changed scenario as compared with the early 90’s. As more and more profit generating hospitals are coming in the industry, hospital and healthcare is no longer remains a charitable or philanthropically act. So to be remain in the market and compete within hospitals need to now focus on the different and innovative strategies in every aspect. Supply chain and operations is one of the important key of any organization which directly impact on business and revenue. Vendor Managed inventory is not a new concept but it is not efficiently utilized in service and healthcare industry as of now. Some retail and automobile industries has utilized the concept and also able to reduce the inventory cost with manageable position of stock out and over stocking position. As hospital’s key functioning is to deal with life of patients on day to day so position of material need to be necessarily on right time and right place. This paper is based on the insight of the application of vendor managed inventory in the management of inventory for the IOL (Intra ocular lenses) that is used for the surgeries in the eye hospital. We will also study the questionnaire on the acceptability of the concept of vendor managed inventory in the hospital that will help to assess the acceptability of VMI in hospital and healthcare industry. Also a framework matrix is designed to understand the relation of VMI with the revenue earning and smoothening of operational efficiency.

The article describes the factors associated with the planning of logistics support for the disposal of household electronic waste. Identifying these factors plays an important role in coordinating to ensure the cost-effectiveness of the costs of recycling e-waste at all stages of the supply chain from the source of waste to where it is accumulated and then recycled. The article describes the importance of such processes as: the development of a method for determining the volume of household electronic waste generated in the administrative-territorial district, the creation of a network of waste collection points, the determination of the amount and throughput of waste collection points, the need to organize garbage collection from the place of collection at the lowest cost. The study was conducted on the basis of an analysis of official statistics from the five most populous cities in Vietnam and thirty regions of Hanoi.

ED Aluminium is the biggest Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) in Daerah Istimewa Yogyakarta (DIY) with 90 number of workers and 1,5 ton ingot capacity for production (Isnaini, 2014). Inventory data in December 2015 indicates that some products are overstocked (9%) and stockout (83%). This condition can happend because that SMEs still using intuition to predict the number of demand. Inventory fluctuation causes the inventory cost increases while overstock happend and lost the opportunity cost during stockout. To avoid overstock and stockout, the determination of demand with exact method is needed and one of them can be solved by forecasting method. This study aims to find the best forecasting methods of demand in 2015 using causal, time series, and combined causal-time series approces that better than the actual condition. The results of this research is the best forecasting method used to predict the number of sales in January-November 2015, that are SARIMA (3,1,1)(0,1,1)12 for WB, SARIMA (1,1,1)(1,0,1)6 for WSD, SARIMA (1,1,1)(1,1,0)6 for DE, SARIMA (2,1,1)(1,1,0)6 for PE, and SARIMA (2,1,3)(0,1,0)12 for PT.

PT. PT. XYZ Medan is manufacturing company that produce soft drinks of beverages in containers. In the product distribution system at PT. XYZ Medan, found that the number of orders based on the result of forecasting in 2013 lower than actual orders at distrbutor and manufacturer in 2014. Distorsion of information on this order can evaluate the indication of bullwhip effect in supply chain. Based on the result calculation of bullwhip effect, found that the value of bullwhip effect for Indomaret distributor, Carrefour, and supply chain of manufacturer each of 0,5303; 0,2967, and 0,5114. Proposed improvements to predominate bullwhip effect that is by doing inventory control policy with Q model using Hadley-Within approach. The value of bullwhip effect aftre doing inventory control policy for Indomaret distributor, Carrefour, and supply chain of manufacturer each of 1,0721; 1,100; dan 1,0714. The value of bullwhip effect which is close to one shows that the variance between the number of the order and the number of the demand nearly balanced so as to save the inventory cost at PT. XYZ Medan.

PurposeThe study aims to investigate the impact of additive manufacturing (AM) on the performance of a spare parts supply chain with a particular focus on underlying spare part demand patterns.Design/methodology/approachThis work evaluates various AM-enabled supply chain configurations through Monte Carlo simulation. Historical demand simulation and intermittent demand forecasting are used in conjunction with a mixed integer linear program to determine optimal network nodal inventory policies. By varying demand characteristics and AM capacity this work assesses how to best employ AM capability within the network.FindingsThis research assesses the preferred AM-enabled supply chain configuration for varying levels of intermittent demand patterns and AM production capacity. The research shows that variation in demand patterns alone directly affects the preferred network configuration. The relationship between the demand volume and relative AM production capacity affects the regions of superior network configuration performance.Research limitations/implicationsThis research makes several simplifying assumptions regarding AM technical capabilities. AM production time is assumed to be deterministic and does not consider build failure probability, build chamber capacity, part size, part complexity and post-processing requirements.Originality/valueThis research is the first study to link realistic spare part demand characterization to AM supply chain design using quantitative modeling.

In this document it is analyzed the importance of contracts for coordination between two companies in a supply chain. In the studied situation, one company, or supplier, supplies one product to the other company, who is a retailer. The companies are going to coordinate by two types of decisions: economic (concerning prices fixed on a contract), and physical exchange (concerning the inventory to be held). Two types of contracts will be presented: one contract with a simple pricing scheme and two contracts with inventory holding cost shared among the companies of the supply chain. The objective is to show that contracts with inventory holding cost share allow the two companies to efficiently coordinate the chain they form.

As the practices of offshoring and outsourcing force the supply chain networks to keep on expanding geographically in the globalised environment, the logistics processes are becoming more exposed to risk and disruptions. Thus, modern supply chains seem to be more vulnerable than ever. It is clear that efficient logistics risk and security management emerges as an issue of pivotal importance in such competitive, demanding and stochastic environment and is thus vital for the viability and profitability of a company. In this context, this chapter focuses on a set of stochastic quantitative models that study the impact of one or more supply chain disruptions on optimal determination of single period inventory control policies. The purpose of this research is to provide a critical review of state-of-the-art methodologies to be used as a starting point for further research efforts.
