In a series of studies for the E.A.C.C. writers from the Asian Churches applied themselves to the question ‘Confessing the Faith in Asia Today’. One feature common to their concern was the need to distinguish sharply between a confessing church and a confessional church. In their missionary situation the second term was treated with suspicion and mistrust as an expression which characterised a church that was inflexible in its attitudes and was therefore unable to enter into a living dialogue of faith with its indigenous situation so that the Gospel could be meaningfully expressed. This sharp contrast is understandable since the Asian churches have not been notable for the ways in which the Gospel has become indigenous to their cultural situation. It has, in the past, tended to be an imposition on a new situation, of a relevant Gospel couched in alien terms with more than a suggestion that the terms in which the Gospel was expressed was to be identified with the reality of the Good News. As a result a cultural hiatus has ensued which has vitiated a great deal of the cutting edge of the Gospel.

The cumulative environmental challenge of sustainable development in the twenty-first century is larger than anything humanity has ever had to deal with in the past. The good news is that solid progress is being reached in the understanding of issues in scientific terms and understanding what needs to be done. The bad news is twofold. First, although many of the environmental problems of earlier centuries are now being confronted, a new generation of difficulties is eclipsing what were the older difficulties. Secondly, much of the progress is being achieved by the wealthier parts of the planet, rather than the developing world. From population growth to climate change to unprecedented habitat and species loss, whether environmental sustainability can be achieved in the twenty-first century is an open question.

Over the past year the world has changed dramatically. With greater restrictions on accessibility, the need to provide innovative and distributable remote experiences is now more prominent than ever. BMT has partnered with the SS Freshspring Trust to create multi-generational STEM experiences. “Preserving the past to inspire knowledge for the future”. The SS Freshspring Trust have a vision to become a STEM hub by utilising cutting-edge technology. BMT have extensive experience in developing VR applications in the Maritime Domain. With skills shortfalls in many engineering disciplines, there is a need to inspire future generations into careers in STEM. Equally, many adults have a passion for technology and have valuable skills to offer to STEM projects. This paper uses the historic vessel SS Freshspring, a 1940s RFA Fresh Water Carrier currently being restored in North Devon, as the basis for exploring a range of initiatives and activities aimed at making engineering and technology interesting and accessible to all. The specific focus is on the development of an interactive 3D virtual tour, aiming to provide access to a wide audience by targeting a range of modalities including smartphones, internet browsers, and most consumer VR headsets.

Resumen: Este artículo tiene por objeto analizar los principales debates y avances en uno de los campos más punteros y prolíficos de la historiografía a nivel internacional: los estudios de la guerra, también conocidos como nueva historia militar. Para ello propongo un recorrido a través de los cambios que se han producido dentro de éste ámbito durante las dos últimas décadas, así como también un examen crítico de los trabajos y tendencias historiográficas que más han contribuido a ello. En este sentido, planteo una puesta en valor de los estudios de la guerra y destaco su importancia para el conjunto de la historiografía por su capacidad para complejizar nuestro conocimiento y explicaciones del pasado; por el amplio y sugerente abanico de casos de estudio que pone a nuestra disposición; por sus tremendas posibilidades y potencial renovador a nivel metodológico e interpretativo; y, no menos importante, por su tremenda actualidad y sus conexiones con el presente.Palabras clave: estudios de la guerra, nueva historia militar, historia social, estudios de género, estudios culturales, guerra total.Abstract: This article is intended to analyze the major discussions and developments in one of the most prolific and a cutting-edge historiographic field on an international level: the war studies, also known as new military history. For this reason I propose a look through the changes which have taken place in this area over the last two decades, as well as a critical review of the works and historiographical paradigms that have contributed in that way. In this sense I defend the value of war studies and its importance for the whole historiography, taking into account specially its capacity to enable a more complex understanding and explanation of the past; the wide and suggestive range of subject matters that place at our disposal; its huge possibilities and renewing potential on a methodological and interpretative level; and last but not least its great influence and connections with the present.Keywords: war studies, new military history, social history, gender studies, cultural studies, total war.

AbstractWe propose a new model that accounts for the asymmetric response of volatility to positive (`good news') and negative (`bad news') shocks in economic time series – the so-called leverage effect. In the past, asymmetric powers of errors in the conditionally heteroskedastic models have been used to capture this effect. Our model is using the gamma difference representation of the generalized Laplace distributions that efficiently models the asymmetry. It has one additional natural parameter, the shape, that is used instead of power in the asymmetric power models to capture the strength of a long-lasting effect of shocks. Some fundamental properties of the model are provided including the formula for covariances and an explicit form for the conditional distribution of `bad' and `good' news processes given the past – the property that is important for statistical fitting of the model. Relevant features of volatility models are illustrated using S&P 500 historical data.

Abstract Big Data analytics has been the main focus in all the industries today. It is not overstating that if an enterprise is not using Big Data analytics, it will be a stray and incompetent in their businesses against their Big Data enabled competitors. The International Union for the Conservation of Nature World Parks Congress is held once a decade, and brings together thousands of the world’s experts on protected areas. In 2014, the Sydney World Parks Congress and the parallel event, Global Eco, provided a platform for 125 presentations relating to tourism and visitation. This paper presents a synthesis of the body of work shared at Sydney, including some of the cutting-edge issues, best practices, and inspiring initiatives relating to sustainable tourism. In particular, it compares issues that were highlighted at the 2003 World Parks Congress, and how they have evolved and progressed over the past decade. The paper highlights the role of different stakeholders from different corners of the world in promoting sustainable tourism practices. It also considers the relevance of tourism to the themes of the World Parks Congress, and how the sector is reflected within the official records of the 2003 and 2014 World Parks Congress. Looking forward to the next 10 years, the paper reflects on specific challenges, gaps in knowledge, and areas for further research and outreach.

This review looks at the different approaches, techniques, and materials devoted to DNA studies. In the past few decades, DNA nanotechnology, micro-fabrication, imaging, and spectroscopies have been tailored and combined for a broad range of medical-oriented applications. The continuous advancements in miniaturization of the devices, as well as the continuous need to study biological material structures and interactions, down to single molecules, have increase the interdisciplinarity of emerging technologies. In the following paragraphs, we will focus on recent sensing approaches, with a particular effort attributed to cutting-edge techniques for structural and mechanical studies of nucleic acids.

During the past two decades Scandinavian archaeologists have increasingly participated in projects abroad. Only a few ofthe projects are based on past cultural-historical links, while the majority are based on comparative and collaborative perspectives, often on other continents. The reason for this development is partly the theoretical development within the discipline, and partly also changes in funding policies. This new situation presents Scandinavian rcsearchers with many practical, ethical and political challenges, but if we take them seriously we may often be rewarded.
