SUMMARYTwo DZ monoplacental twins are reported, one affected by mongolism and the other normal. Chromosome examination in the former indicated trisomy 21, while the latter presented a mosaicism consisting, at the age of 13 days, in 70% normal and 30% 21-trisomic cells; at the age of 5 months, in 95% normal and 5% trisomic cells; while, at the age of one year, all the cells appeared to be normal. The possibility of mosaicism, and, according to clinical and hematological findings, that of feto-fetal blood transfusion are excluded. The hypothesis is suggested of a progressive loss of the reproductive capacity of « chimaera » of abnormal lymphocytes.

The United States is in a bind. On the one hand, we need millions of additional citizens with at least one year of successful post-secondary experience to adapt to the knowledge economy. Both the Gates and Lumina Foundations, and our President, have championed this goal in different ways. On the other hand, we have a post-secondary system that is trapped between rising costs and stagnant effectiveness, seemingly unable to respond effectively to this challenge. This paper analyzes several aspects of this problem, describes changes in the society that create the basis for solutions, and offers several examples from Kaplan University of emerging practice that suggests what good practice might look like in a world where quality-assured mass higher education is the norm.

In Algeria, the problems of erosion and sediment transport are critical, since they have the most dramatic consequences of the degradation of agricultural soils on the one hand and the siltation of the dam on the other .The sediment transport in the Algerian basins is very important especially during the periods of floods, It is in this sense that this study, which consists of estimating the sediment transport in suspension and determining the models of relation linking the liquid discharge and the sediment discharge in order to estimate the solid transport in the absence of suspended sediments concentration data at the Sidi Akkacha station at the outlet of the basin of Oued Allala which is subject to a high water erosion, it degrades from one year to the other under the effect of this phenomenon especially during the floods which drain high amounts of fine particles exceeding in general, the concentration of 150 g/l, the results obtained from the application of the models are very encouraging since the correlation between liquid and solid discharge exceeds 80 %.

ABSTRACT Perioperative myocardial injury in non-cardiac surgery Perioperative myocardial injury (PMI) in non-cardiac surgery is a complication, often not identified, that is related to an increase in mortality at 30 days. The objectives of this study are, on the one hand, to know the incidence of PMI, which is around 16% in patients with a high cardiovascular risk. On the other, evaluate its relationship with mortality at 30 days and one year; the presence of PMI is associated with increased mortality.

This article deconstructs a binary that has arisen between prisons as, on the one hand, ‘total institutions’ of exclusion and, on the other, ‘carceral continuums’ that incorporate marginalized urban livelihoods. The experiences of four inmates at Pademba Road, Freetown’s male prison – which accommodates inmates with sentences from one year to life – illustrate that prisons belong in neither camp. Instead, inmates’ unique responses to their imprisonment show that both a prison’s continuity and its exclusionary mechanism are situational and gendered as crime, social standing, capital and agency coalesce. Following Michel de Certeau’s examination of people’s reappropriations of culture in everyday life, this article analyses how inmates’ tactics to reinforce and bend prison walls work to either strengthen or undermine the carceral system’s strategies and influence the prison’s permeability. Inmates’ embodied experiences allow for a nuanced understanding of the inside/outside relationship of imprisonment and of the space between mobility and stasis, subjugation, embrace and resistance.

This chapter examines China's political economy based on an interpretation of Chinese Communist Party ideology and discourse, challenging the notion that there is a mythical switch that can be flipped between politics and ideology on the one side, and economy and development on the other. Adopting a two-step approach, it considers the premises of the dominant paradigm of economic performance legitimacy and concludes with a discursive analysis of China's post-2008 Sichuan earthquake reconstruction plans. In the context of post-earthquake reconstruction, the chapter investigates how the metaphor of “blood transfusion” and “blood generation” established the coordinates for the Party's reconstruction plan to economically develop the Sichuan countryside. In place of a robust, self-reliant, and blood-generating economy engineered by the mobilization of Party spirit, the disaster zones had a lifeless and anemic economy.

Research in the conduct mode of grapevines other than the north African goblet incited us to make an investigation on the no bursting on table vine canes and to study if the vestigial dormancy is equivalent to acrotony phenomenon. Results of this survey clearly show that this phenomenon varies from one year to the other and that there is a negative interrelationship between the percentage of buds no bursted and the diameter of the basis of the cane on the one hand and of the top on the other hand. The difference in diameters of the basis and apical part is weakly correlated with the percentage of buds no bursted. As a result we concluded that at the level of the cane, the percentage of buds no bursted doesn't only depend on the diameter of the cane but also on the fixing of this one on the carrier axis. The bibliographic survey puts in exergue the low temperature role. We tried to dissociate the acrotony phenomenon and the vestigial dormancy. Test result show that the long cane fixing at the temperature of 4°C during 10 days removes partially or completely the vestigial dormancy but the phenomenon of the acrotony persists. We examined the qualitative answers of the investigation. In Tunisia, on long canes of Muscatel of Italy, a certain percentage of one year old presents both the acrotony (80 p. cent) and the basitony phenomena (8 p. cent) in 1995. The discussion of results of the investigation allowed us to give out a new hypothesis of work concerning the phenomenon which we will to verify.

This paper presents results from two studies of risks connected with online shopping which were conducted in 2017 and 2018 and 2019. The studies were carried out on a group of 400, 415 and 343 respondents, respectively, using paper questionnaires. The one year gap between the questionnaires allowed conclusions to be drawn not only about the relevance of factors shaping risk perception but also about the evolution of such perception over time. On the one hand, the studies revealed increased trust towards the online distribution channel, while on the other hand they showed the increased importance of risk areas such as express and punctual delivery, problem-free contact with the seller, quick solution of technical and logistical problems, recognition of complaints and delivery of correct products

The permeability of the rabbit placenta at term has been studied by following maternal and fetal blood sugar curves during a controlled intravenous infusion of the following sugars: disaccharides (sucrose, lactose, maltose); hexoses (glucose, mannose, galactose, sorbose, fructose); pentoses (arabinose, xylose, ketoxylose) and the trisaccharides dihydroxyacetone and glyceraldehyde. The disaccharides were almost completely blocked by the placenta. Among the hexoses, and possibly among the pentoses, there was a clear differential permeability on the part of the placenta to the aldo-sugars on the one hand and the keto-sugars on the other. Results with the trisaccharides were inconclusive. The results were held to furnish added proof for the complex character of the placental transfer mechanism for sugars. No evidence was put forward for the possible mechanism involved.

The object of this paper is to draw attention to a process of checking the accuracy of the valuation results of any financial year from the preceding year's valuation results (the attained ages as at valuation date increasing by one year) by means of the elements which connect both valuations. These elements are the interest required to maintain the reserves, the net premiums, the reserves of the policies coming in and going out during the financial year, and the expected death strain. In the appendix to this paper the checking process has been applied to the revenue account for the year ending 31st December, 1921, given in Appendix B of Mr. C. Carpmael's paper in J.S.S. Vol. II, No. 2. The determination of the profit or loss from each source has been made on two different assumptions—namely, the one adopted by Mr. Carpmael, that the income and outgo are uniformly distributed over the year allowing half-a-year's interest at valuation rate and the other adopted in the North American gain and loss exhibit of the convention edition by which no allowance is made for half-a-year's interest for the two cases in which the policies are assumed to come in and go out at the beginning of the valuation year as done by Mr. Carpmael in his paper, and in the middle of the valuation year.

With the aim of understanding the recent migration processes of young Spaniards settled in Chile, the present paper analyzes, on the one hand, how these young people experience their arrival and establishment in said Latin American country and, in the other hand, how the process of returning and readjusting to Spanish society takes place. For that, and following the procedures of the Grounded Theory, the discourses of 37 Spanish migrants obtained through in depth interviews were analyzed: 22 of them are living in Chile and the other 15 returned to Spain after spending a long period in Chilean society and have been living in Spain for at least one year since then. All of them have university degrees, are between 25 and 35 years old, and arrived in Chile between 2013 and 2018. This qualitative study shows the way in which these migrants experience their sociocultural integration in Chilean society, which could be typified as “nostalgic” since it is characterized by the idealization of and the longing for their society of origin. Another key characteristic is the eventual return to the country of origin, in which the desynchronization they experience is especially remarkable: after a long period abroad, they feel disconnected from the transformations that have taken place in their original environment, which leads them to experience a difficult process of readjustment to Spanish society that sometimes is even more complex than that experienced abroad.
