AbstractStudies in India from the early to late 1990s found that rural youths and women played a predominant role in livestock farming. Even though many studies differ in the extent and nature of the contribution of youths and women in livestock farming, all acknowledge their roles and contribution. Livestock farming acts as a source of supplementary income to youths and women and provides increased nutritional security. New economic policies of the1990s have brought changes to the livestock farming community. This paper attempts to understand and describe the role of women and youths in livestock farming. The research methodology employed for the present study is ex post facto design, and includes semi-structured open-ended interviews, observation and conversations with key informants. The study has found that a change in the roles of women and the participation of youths in livestock farming has occurred, which could be detrimental to the well-being of rural family farmers.

This study examined the effects of perceived discrimination on the well-being of people with HIV and the mediating role of self-exclusion as a function of the participants' symptoms of lipodystrophy. An ex post facto study with a sample of 706 people with HIV was conducted. Self-perception of lipoatrophy and lipohypertrophy, perceived discrimination, self-exclusion and psychological well-being were measured. Results of hierarchical cluster analysis showed participants could be categorized into three groups: no lipodystrophy, mixed syndrome with predominant lipoaccumulation and lipoatrophy. Results of structural equation modeling revealed that the negative effects of perceived discrimination on well-being were mediated to a large extent by self-exclusion. Invariance analysis revealed that the mediating role of self-exclusion was not the same in the three clusters. Complete mediation of self-exclusion in the groups without lipodystrophy and with predominant lipoaccumulation was confirmed. Regarding lipoatrophy, the negative effects of perceived discrimination were greater and only partly mediated by self-exclusion. In conclusion, having lipodystrophy exposed people to more discrimination; lipoatrophy was the most stigmatizing condition.

The research aim of this paper was two-fold: to generate evidence that personality factors are linear predictors of the variable approaches to learning (a relevant cognitive-motivational variable of Educational Psychology); and to show that each type of learning approach differentially predicts positive or negative achievement emotions, in three learning situations: class time, study time, and testing. A total of 658 university students voluntarily completed validated questionnaires referring to these three variables. Using an ex post facto design, we conducted correlational analyses, regression analyses, and multiple structural predictions. The results showed that Conscientiousness is associated with and predicts a Deep Approach to learning, while also predicting positive achievement emotions. By contrast, Neuroticism is associated with and significantly predicts a Surface Approach to learning, as well as negative achievement emotions. There are important psychoeducational implications in the university context, both for prevention and for self-improvement, and for programs that offer psychoeducational guidance.

Research regarding the association between emotional intelligence, leadership style and organizational culture has been inconclusive. The purpose of this study was to explore these relationships in elementary school settings. A non-experimental ex post facto research design was utilized to investigate four research hypotheses. Fifty-seven principals and 850 teachers within a large urban school district in southeast Florida were surveyed. Hierarchical regression analyses revealed positive associations between school culture and both transformational and transactional leadership, and negative associations between school culture and passive-avoidant leadership. Significant positive associations were found also between school culture and the principals' emotional intelligence after controlling for leadership style. The hierarchical linear regressions revealed significant associations between leadership style and school culture after controlling for school grade as well. The results suggest that emotional intelligence merits consideration in the development of leadership theory. Practical implications include suggestions that principals employ both transformational and transactional leadership strategies, and focus on developing their level of emotional intelligence. The associations between emotional intelligence, transformational leadership, contingent reward and school culture found in this study validate the role of the principal as the leader of school reform.

This study aimed to determine the role of scout extracurricular activities toward student characters, between the learning environment at school and the student characters, and between scout extracurricular activities and the learning environment at school along with students’ characters. The research adopted an ex-post-facto correlation with a total population of 112 students and 54 of them were taken as samples. Observation and questionnaires were used for data collection. Product Moment Correlation and Multiple Correlation were undertaken to analyze the collected data. Based on the analysis, the results of the study indicated that there was a relationship between scout extracurricular activities and learning environment at school toward students’ characters.

Climate change has been perceived with high emphasis from the beginning of this century. Since it directly impacts the ecosystem and agriculture especially over the farmers of dryland regions. The research study has been conducted to assess the farmers’ attitude towards climate-resilient technologies of the National Initiatives on Climate Resilient Agriculture (NICRA) project by farmers of Anantapur district of Andhra Pradesh. The sample consists of 60 farmers as beneficiaries from NICRA villages and 60 farmers as nonbeneficiaries from non-NICRA villages were selected randomly. The ex-post facto research design was used in the study. The results of the study showed that more than half of the beneficiaries (51.67 %) and 48.33 per cent of non-beneficiaries had a medium level of favorableness towards climate-resilient technologies of the NICRA project. From the above findings, this is concluded that both beneficiaries and non-beneficiaries of the NICRA project have a positive favourable attitude towards climate-resilient technologies which is considered as a precursor for adoption of those technologies by the farming community. Hence the results of this research study may help extension organizations for good training and implementation of climate-resilient technologies of National Innovations on Climate Resilient Agriculture (NICRA).

In the framework of continuous improvement of university education, the corresponding bodies are attentive to the good practices detached by the agents that comprise them. In this study, gamification in the mathematics learning process is described from the perspective of 286 students identified by non-probabilistic intentional sampling. Under these arguments, the methodology of the study is non-experimental, descriptive ex-post-facto level; the data for the analysis were collected in two stages: first moment in an instantaneous way to be able to perceive directly the gamification in the learning of mathematics through the Mentimenter tool; in second moment, the questionnaire was applied with 33 items composed of three dimensions: dynamics, mechanics and component from the contributions of Kevin Werbach. The results attributed to the study show that gamification, from the student's perspective, is a dynamic tool for the learning of previous concepts of Basic Mathematics and Mathematical Complements in the first academic semesters; in addition, the teacher plays the role of facilitator and the student responsibly manages his space and learning environment.

Background/Aim: Smoking addiction is a pervasive and high risk behavior linked with complex and damaging effects to a person’s biology, behaviors, psychological well-being and cultural influence. Chronic smoking is also associated with increased risk of exposure to neurodegenerative diseases and cigarette smoking poorly affects both cognitive and affective functioning of the smokers. The perceived effects of smoking are often generalized by society such that it is viewed in extremes. This means that the societal perceptions are either smoking serves as a “relaxing mechanism”, hence, making it as acceptable as any normal habit or that, conversely, smoking is gravely dangerous to one’s health when considered as a vice. This research focused on the causal comparative ex post facto of smoking and its perceived effects to the psychological functioning among smokers and non-smokers. Methods: O’ Connor Finger Dexterity Test, Abstract Reasoning Test and Affective Functioning Assessment Test were used as bases of data comparison between the two groups. Result/Conclusion: The test results indicate that there is a significant difference between the cognitive functioning and affective functioning among the smokers in comparison with non-smokers.

Abstract This study was conducted to determine the effect of perceptions of caregiver strain and psychological well-being of wives or husbands as providers of care for his partner who had a stroke. Field studies in this research lasted from April to June 2013. This study using quantitative methods with ex post facto research design and using accidental sampling techniques. Participants in this study amounted to 37 wives or husbands of stroke patients who have taken role as spouse caregiver for at least 3 months. The participants were found at the clubs stroke and stroke rehabilitation center in Jakarta. The data was collected using a measuring instrument that has been adapted into Indonesian. The Modified Caregiver Strain Index is consisting of 13 items and Ryff's Psychological Well-being Scale consisting of 54 items. Based on the results of the data, obtained value of F = 0.085, p = 0.772> 0:05 (not significant) and the value effect (Adjusted R Square) 2.6%. So that it can be concluded that there is no significant effect of Perception Towards Caregiver strain on psychological well-being by by wives or husbands who became spouse caregiver for their partner who had suffered from stroke. ABSTRACT Objective: to describe the profile of patients treated by Speech-Language therapists in a Critical Patient Unit. Methods: an ex post facto, observational and descriptive study was carried out. Monthly statistical data of patients hospitalized in the period January-December 2018 were analyzed, in the Intensive Care Unit at a public hospital. Data were described from the analysis of frequency and measures of central tendency. The distribution of the variables was determined through the skewness-kurtosis test, considering a significance level of p<0.05. Results: 217 individuals got 868 speech-language therapy services. Men (57.26%), older than 65 years old, required a more frequent intervention. The main medical diagnosis of admission to the unit corresponded to non-specific pathologies (57.14%), respiratory disease (15.21%) and cerebrovascular disease (12.79%). The speech-language therapy functions were related to the evaluation of swallowing (54.31%) and voice (32.4%). In relation to the intervention, the treatment of dysphagia (25.82%) and oral motor functions (25.04%) was predominant in the duties. Functions associated with language, speech and cognition were secondary. Conclusion: the profile of the critical patient and the speech-language therapy work in this field represent a first step to characterize the role of the speech-language therapist in Intensive Medicine teams.

Aims: The study explored the socio-environmental factors as determinants of the emotional well-being of adolescents in foster homes in southwestern Nigeria. Study Design: A descriptive survey research of ex-post-facto type was employed. Place and Duration of Study: Foster homes in six states in southwestern Nigeria.  Methodology: multi-stage sampling was used in selecting 555 respondents for this study and the data collection was done using a semi-structured questionnaire and data analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics. Results: The study revealed that peer influence, academic performance and attitude of the foster family were significant to emotional wellbeing. All the components of social factors correlated with the emotional well-being of the fostered adolescents show that appropriate schooling and educational services can strengthen them and are more likely to view their schools as a supportive and safe haven. Therefore, peers, the foster family and the foster adolescents’ exposure to academics either directly or indirectly affects their emotional well-being. It also showed that the majority (54.1%) accepted that they can count on their carers to help them when the need arises. It is also revealed that the foster family attitude is an adolescent’s source of emotional support and their psychological well-being which may increase self-esteem in the fostered adolescents. This study revealed that 44.3% of the respondents confirmed that they always get along well with their carers. Conclusion: Adolescents in foster care face multiple threats to their healthy development, including poor physical health, attachment disorders, compromised brain functioning, inadequate and emotional skills
