Even though intensifiers have received a good deal of attention over the past few decades, downtoners, comprising diminishers and minimizers, have remained by and large a neglected category (but cf. Brinton, this issue). Among downtoners, the adverb little or a little stands out as the most frequent item. It is multifunctional and serves as a diminishing and minimizing intensifier and also in non-degree uses as a quantifier, frequentative, and durative. Therefore, the present paper is devoted to the structural and functional profile of ( a) little in Late Modern English speech-related data. The data source is the socio-pragmatically annotated Old Bailey Corpus (OBC, version 2.0), which allows, among other things, the investigation of the usage of the item among different speaker groups. Our research charts the semantic and formal uses of adverbial little. Downtoner uses outnumber non-degree uses in the data, and diminishing uses are more common than minimizing uses. The formal realization is predominantly a little, with very rare determinerless or modified instances, such as very little. Little modifies a wide range of “targets,” but most frequently adjectives and prepositional phrases, focusing on human states and circumstantial detail. With regard to variation and change, adverbial little declines in use over the 200 years and is used more commonly by speakers from the lower social ranks and by the lay, non-professional participants in the courtroom.

<p>Currently, the main goal of agriculture is to promote the resilience of agricultural systems in a sustainable way through the improvement of use efficiency of farm resources, increasing crop yield and quality, under climate change conditions. Climate change is one of the major challenges for high incomes crops, as the vineyards for high-quality wines, since it is expected to drastically modify plant growth, with possible negative effects especially in arid and semi-arid regions of Europe. In this context, the reduction of negative environmental impacts of intensive agriculture (e.g. soil degradation), can be realized by means of high spatial and temporal resolution of field crop monitoring, aiming to manage the local spatial variability.</p><p>The monitoring of spatial behaviour of plants during the growing season represents an opportunity to improve the plant management, the farmer incomes and to preserve the environmental health, but it represents an additional cost for the farmer.</p><p>The UAS-based imagery might provide detailed and accurate information across visible and near infrared spectral regions to support monitoring (crucial for precision agriculture) with limitation in bands and then on spectral vegetation indices (Vis) provided. VIs are a well-known and widely used method for crop state estimation. The ability to monitor crop state by such indices is an important tool for agricultural management. While differences in imagery and point-based spectroscopy are obvious, their impact on crop state estimation by VIs is not well-studied. The aim of this study was to assess the performance level of the selected VIs calculated from reconstructed high-resolution satellite (Sentinel-2A) multispectral imagery (13 bands across 400-2500nm with spatial resolution of <2m) through Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) approach (Brook et al., 2020), UAS-based multispectral (5 bands across 450-800nm spectral region with spatial resolution of 5cm) imagery and point-based field spectroscopy (collecting 600 wavelength across  400-1000nm spectral region with a surface footprint of 1-2cm) in application to crop state estimation.</p><p>The test site is a portion of vineyard placed in southern Italy cultivated on Greco cultivar, in which the soil-plant and atmosphere system has been monitored during the 2020 vintage also through ecophysiological analyses. The data analysis will follow the methodology presented in a recently published paper (Polinova et al., 2018).</p><p>The study will connect the method and scale of spectral data collection with in vivo plant monitoring and prove that it has a significant impact on the vegetation state estimation results. It should be noted that each spectral data source has its advantages and drawbacks. The plant parameter of interest should determine not only the VIs type suitable for analysis but also the method of data collection.</p><p>The contribution has been realized within the CNR BIO-ECO project.</p>

Smart transportation is a framework that leverages the power of Information and Communication Technology for acquisition, management, and mining of traffic-related data sources. This chapter categorizes them into probe people and vehicles based on Global Positioning Systems, mobile phone cellular networks, and Bluetooth, location-based social networks, and transit data with the focus on smart cards. For each data source, the operational mechanism of the technology for capturing the data is succinctly demonstrated. Secondly, as the most salient feature of this study, the transport-domain applications of each data source that have been conducted by the previous studies are reviewed and classified into the main groups. Possible research directions are provided for all types of data sources. Finally, authors briefly mention challenges and their corresponding solutions in smart transportation.

Low voltage switching apparatuses efficiency depends on the speed of movement of the switching arc from the contacts to the quenching chamber. The paper is focused on investigation of this movement of an arc. Measurement of radiation spectra of the electric arc burning inside miniature circuit breaker and moving to quenching chamber are presented. Measured radiation spectra contain suitable atomic spectra lines for calculation purposes. The problems connected with the measurements are discussed. The main part of the paper deals with a calculation of temperature of the investigated plasma of the arc. Atomic lines database of National Institute of Standards and Technology was used as a spectral data source for the calculations.

AbstractEngineers often need to discover and learn designs from unfamiliar domains for inspiration or other particular uses. However, the complexity of the technical design descriptions and the unfamiliarity to the domain make it hard for engineers to comprehend the function, behavior, and structure of a design. To help engineers quickly understand a complex technical design description new to them, one approach is to represent it as a network graph of the design-related entities and their relations as an abstract summary of the design. While graph or network visualizations are widely adopted in the engineering design literature, the challenge remains in retrieving the design entities and deriving their relations. In this paper, we propose a network mapping method that is powered by Technology Semantic Network (TechNet). Through a case study, we showcase how TechNet’s unique characteristic of being trained on a large technology-related data source advantages itself over common-sense knowledge bases, such as WordNet and ConceptNet, for design knowledge representation.

Abstract – In this paper, an Excel Add-in for automating grade recording and graduate attributes assessment at the course level is presented. Course learning outcomes, accreditation units (AU) input parameters and some other course-specific related data are documented as well. A set of student performance reports are generated and are utilized for closing the loop of the continuous improvement activities mandated by the new CEAB accreditation process. The add-in or the Xl-App is one of the three major constituents of the OBACIS framework. The other two are the Windows application or the Win-App; for accreditation administration operations and the web tool or the Web-App; for data compilation reporting process. The Win-App parse the data collected by the add-in (presumably collected via the Web-App as xlsx files or XML files) and integrate them with other program and faculty-level performance assessment and continuous improvement activities. In addition to the role for which it was created, the xl-App can emit the data collected to suit the learning management systems grade books and web marking systems.

One aspect of enzyme cytochemistry is, whether all macrophage lysosomal hydrolytical enzymes are present in an active form, or are activated upon stimulation. Integrated morphometrical and chemical analysis has been chosen as a tool to illucidate that cytochemical problem. Mouse peritoneal resident macrophages have been used as a model for this complicated integration of morphometrical and element-related data. Only aldehyde-fixed cells were treated with three cytochemical reactions to detect different enzyme activities within one cell (for details see [1,2]). The enzyme-related precipitates anticipated to be differentiated, were:(1).lysosomal barium and sulphur from aryl sulphatase activity,(2).lysosomal cerium and phosphate from acid phosphatase activity and(3).platinum/di-amino-benzidine( D A B) complex from endogenous peroxidase activity.
