Reactions of F(2P) atoms generated by a 2.45 GHz discharge in dilute F2 + He mixtures have been studied mass spectrometrically with a beam inlet system from a fast flow reactor. F atom concentrations have been measured from the consumption of Cl2 in the simple and extremely rapid bimolecular reaction 1[Formula: see text]k1 was determined to be (1.1 ± 0.3) × 10−10 cm3 molecule−1 s−1 at 300 °K.Rate measurements for the reaction 2, which forms CF3 radicals, are reported, over the range 301 to 667 °K,[Formula: see text][Formula: see text]A less detailed survey of the rates at 298 °K of a series of reactions of F with H2, CH4, CH3Cl, CH2Cl2, and CHCl3, is also given; in these cases, the source of F was a discharge in CF4 + Ar, and [F] was measured by titration with ClNO.

Objective. To determine the effect of pH, and exposure time over the inactivation of aflatoxin B1 (AFB1) during the tortilla making process as well as the degradative molecules generated. Materials and methods. Inactivation of AFB1 in maize-dough with alkaline pH and in alkaline methanolic solutions was determined by HPLC. Kinetics of time exposure of AFB1 in methanolic solution and the degradative products were analyzed by direct injection electrospray mass spectometry (DIESI-MS). Results. The alkaline pH of the maize-dough after nixtamalización between 10.2, and 30-40 minutes of resting at room temperature allows the 100% reduction of AFB1. DIESI-MS analysis of the extracts indicated the presence of two degradation molecules from AFB1.Conclusion. The alkaline pH of maize-dough and resting time are the principal factors involved in diminishing AFB1 levels in tortillas. A procedure to the tortilla making process is proposed, which allows the reduction of remnant AFB1, avoiding the accumulative effect over consumers.

Operando spectroelectrochemical analysis is used to determine the water oxidation reaction kinetics for hematite photoanodes prepared using four different synthetic procedures. Whilst these photoanodes exhibit very different current / voltage performance, their underlying water oxidation kinetics are found to be almost invariant. Lower photoanode performance was found to correlate with the observation of optical signals indicative of charge accumulation in mid-gap oxygen vacancy states, indicating these states do not contribute directly to water oxidation.

Through a combination of thermogravimetry, mass spectrometry and differential thermal analysis, we demonstrate for the first time that all four zeolites show experimental differences in their host-guest interactions with 18C6. In addition, we have estimated the kinetics of 18C6 decomposition, which is a technique that has not been applied to zeolites previously. Using these findings as a toolkit, a more rational use of OSDAs can be utilised to prepare designer zeolites. Furthermore, the new methodologies presented herein can be applied to current zeolites, such as MFI-type zeolites used in the petrochemical industry.
