In this study ZnO photocatalysts with different loading of Eu2O3 and Sm2O3 were prepared vie microwave-assisted hydrothermal method. The prepared samples were investigated by using XRD, SEM and BET analysis. The photocatalytic activity was determined by degradation of methylene blue (MB) under Osram Vitalux illumination. Prepared ZnO photocatalysts shown high photocatalytic activity under solar light simulated radiation. After 30 minute of irradiation more than 95 % of initial MB solution was degraded. The effect of pH and photocatalyst dosage was investigated. The reusability of photocatalysts was also studied.

Tin oxide nanoparticles (SnO2NPs) were prepared at low temperature by hydrothermal method. Synthesized SnO2NPs were confirmedviacharacterization techniques such as UV-visible spectroscopy (UV-vis), X-ray diffraction (XRD), and Transmission Electron Microscope (TEM). The synthesized nanoparticles were in the size of 3 nm and they have high photocatalytic activity. The result showed that SnO2NPs degraded 88.88% MB solution after 30 minutes of UV illumination and reached 90.0% for 120 minutes (2 hours) of UV illumination. Moreover, they degraded 79.26% MB solution after 90 minutes (1.5 hours) under assisted sunlight illumination.

Using zinc acetate, glycerol alcohol and sodium hydroxide as principal raw materials, the ZnO microspheres were prepared by hydrothermal method at 200°C. The samples were characterized by powder X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and diffuse reflectance spectroscopy (DRS). Using methyl orange as the degradation object, the photocatalytic activities and recycling stability of ZnO were characterized. The results show that ZnO samples are spherical and the average diameter is approximately 3-4μm. Moreover, the bandgap width is 3.1eV. Under ultraviolet light irradiation, it is testified that ZnO shows a excellent photocatalytic activity for the degradation of methyl orange. From experience, we can draw a conclusion that the ZnO samples were in line with first-order kinetics, with an apparent rate constant of 0.016min-1. At the same time, ZnO showed excellent recycling performance. Although the samples have been recycled three times, it still maintained high photocatalytic activity.
