Abstract. This article presents a Therapeutic Assessment (TA; Finn, 2007 ) case study of a teenage girl assessed because of a complex set of symptoms: history of suicidal statements, sensory sensitivity, questions about gender identity, depression, anxiety/OCD, and possible subclinical psychotic symptoms. Logan’s parents, Joe and Susan, participated in the assessment, with Susan attending every appointment and Joe attending only the first and last. Ten instruments were administered, with each providing information about different aspects of Logan. The Thurston Cradock Test of Shame (TCTS; Thurston & Cradock O’Leary, 2009 ) scores and analysis encompassed all of the other test findings, clarified details not fully explained by tests such as the Rorschach and MMPI-A, and brought the core adolescent and family issue of shame to the foreground. When the assessors explained shame to Logan’s mother, she was better able to understand her daughter’s shame and connect with her own feelings of shame. When Logan’s father arrived for the final feedback session, he was quite tense, argumentative, and threatened to cancel the appointment. The TCTS allowed the assessors to understand Joe’s aggressive behavior as signs of TCTS defenses of deflation, aggression, and inflation/contempt, appreciate his underlying feelings of shame, and to delicately restore the “interpersonal bridge” ( Kaufman, 1996 ), which is key to reducing shame. As a result, Joe’s defensiveness decreased, and he was open to continuing the feedback session. In the end, Joe was able to identify with his daughter in a new way and even admit his own sense of shame in the session. This provided an opportunity for healing in the whole family.

In the digital age, technology and digital media shapes virtually every aspect of our lives. Poetry, which has seen a surprising revival in recent years, is no exception. One of the most popular contemporary poets today is Rupi Kaur, made famous for her verse posted on the social media platform Instagram. This MRP seeks to answer the following research questions: 1) In what ways has the digital age effected contemporary poetry? 2) What role has digital media played in shaping the success and formal elements of Rupi Kaur’s body of work? This MRP begins by offering a brief history of poetry’s relationship with media and an account of how poetry is produced and consumed in the digital age. The core of the MRP is a case study of contemporary Insta-poet Rupi Kaur. Through qualitative visual and textual analysis, the case study considers: 1) Kaur’s poetry, 2) her Instagram content, 3) her readership, and 4) the criticisms of her work. As to the discussion, the analysis of the four categories reveals

This chapter argues that the expansion of a nation’s shipping industry, though often accompanied by imperialist activity, does not guarantee it. Katayama Kunio considers the role of commerce, rather than imperialism, to be the intrinsic link to shipping expansion, and uses the expansion of Japanese shipping before the 1894-1895 Sino-Japanese war as the core case study. Kunio studies the contextual background to Japan’s international shipping interests, including the history of the Nippon Yusen Kaisha company, the ambitions of Japanese Shipowners, the debates in Japanese parliament, and Japanese public opinion, to determine the motives that led Japan to enter into international shipping and trade.

The Generator Recovery Project Case Study is a technical paper that will discuss a project which started with a simple open, clean, and close of a 40MW air cooled generator and turned out to be much more. The unit experienced a gradual increase in winding temperatures over the last several years, with a more notable increase in phase B temperatures. In the history of the unit, it was observed that the unit became contaminated with carbonaceous deposits due to the environment in which it operated. Routine cleanings during scheduled outages were successful in lowering the increased temperature trends. With today’s market environment and an increasing commonality of extending outage intervals, the routine outage interval had been extended to 7 years from the previous outage. The scope of work was to remove the rotor, clean, inspect, test and return the unit to service in just over one week’s time. The requirements of the project were that the efforts be maximized so that the unit returned to service in the most economical means while adhering to practices that would maximize the unit’s availability and reliability. With findings of significant contamination of carbonaceous deposits and significant foreign object damage (FOD), the project lead to overwhelming questions and concerns. The case study will discuss the immediate concerns of the unknown, such as if the core was even recoverable and what was the source of FOD. The case study will walk through the questions raised and the actions taken to first assess the condition of the unit and what actions to be taken to recover the core damage, if at all possible. Most importantly, determining the source of FOD and the rectifications to eliminate future sources of FOD from this area. Detailed information on repair assessments and validation will be presented and procedures for repair and recovery will be discussed. Final testing and validation to return to service will be discussed and the operational characteristics after the repair will be revealed.

Schizophrenia and related disorders are a group of conditions characterized by psychotic symptoms which lead to impairments in thinking, feelings, behaviour, and social interactions. There is a spectrum of severity. In schizophrenia, the patient suffers from both psychotic symptoms and functional impairment. In delusional disorders, the patient experiences delusions, but there is no evidence of hallucinations and their functional level may remain normal. Schizophrenia can be a particularly disabling illness because its course, although variable, is frequently chronic and relapsing. The care of patients with schizophrenia places a considerable burden on all carers, from the patient’s family through to the health and social services. GPs may have only a few patients with chronic schizophrenia on their lists but the severity of their problems and the needs of their families will make these patients important. This chapter aims to provide sufficient information for the reader to be able to recognize the basic symptoms of schizophrenia and related disorders and to be aware of the main approaches to treatment. As the clinical presentation and outcome of the disorder vary, schizophrenia can be a confusing illness to understand. It is best to start by considering simplified descriptions of two common presentations: (1) the acute syndrome, and (2) the chronic syndrome. It is then easier to understand the core features as well as the diversity of schizophrenia. In the acute syndrome, the patient gains symptoms; they start to have unusual experiences or thoughts they did not previously, and act in bizarre or atypical ways. This is in contrast to the contrast to the chronic syndrome, in which there is a loss of function— the negative symptoms. The positive symptoms of schizophrenia may appear within a few days, or more insidiously over a period of weeks. A typical presentation is described in Case study box 22.1, and symptoms outlined in Table 22.1. It is not necessary for the patient to have all of these symptoms; they usually have a selection which may change over time.

Vernacular and traditional architecture occupies a central place in the soul and pride of all people and has been accepted as a characteristic and attractive product of society, with a formal image. There is talk of a utilitarian architecture, which possesses interest and beauty, and which retains in the contemporary memory of the history of society. At the same time, it is unworthy of human heritage if this traditional harmony is not preserved, which is, in fact, the core of the human experience. In this context, the purpose of this study is to emphasize the beauty of traditional Romanian architecture in terms of philately. We want to expose the architectural specifics of three areas - Audia (Neamț), Bancu (Harghita), and Berbești (Maramureș) using postage stamps, illustrated postcards and other philatelic effects.

AbstractThe paper examines German satirical novels of the late Enlightenment period, published roughly between 1760 and 1790, under the following question: Is there any evidence that the historical practice of fiction (concerning this time and these texts) deviates from the modern practice of fiction as described by institutional accounts of fictionality? First, it is explained what, in this essay, is meant by the ›modern practice of fiction‹. Four ›core rules‹ are identified that, according to institutional accounts of fictionality, characterize the practice of reading works of fiction. These core rules are: You should not conclude that what is expressed by fictional utterances is actually true! You should not conclude that the author believes that what is expressed by his fictional utterances is actually true! You should imagine what is expressed by fictional utterances (make-believe, pretence)! You should (or at least can) make your imaginations the object of higher-level attitudes (for example you can evaluate, emotionally respond to, interpret them etc.)! Then, using the example of German satirical novels of the late Enlightenment, seven features of fictional texts are discussed that may provide clues about the historical practice of fiction and that could give an indication of whether the core rules actually do apply. These features are: assurances of truthfulness by the author or fictional authors/editors; direct thematization of the fictional/factual-text-distinction; fictional reading scenarios; comments by fictional narrators and/or characters on the practice of reading; statements of the actual author in the fictional text; ›that cannot be true‹-passages (intentional mistakes, anachronisms, various ways of breaking the reader’s expectations, etc.); various kinds of reference to the actual world (for example satirical allusions to actual persons or states of affairs). It will be argued that, for the corpus of texts under consideration, there is no convincing evidence that the historical practices of reading works of fiction deviates in any significant way from the core rules of the modern practice of fiction. However, the main aim of this paper is not to provide an exhaustive historical case study. First, the investigation is limited to the exemplary discussion of some (although significant) texts and text passages, so the results can only be considered preliminary. Second, while the satirical novel of the late Enlightenment indeed is a particularly interesting and revealing genre for the study of the historical practice of fiction (arguments are given in section 3), the main purpose of this essay is to make a methodological proposal. A general procedure is provided for finding out whether the historical practice of fiction differs from our modern practice – a procedure that can be applied to texts of other times and genres as well.

This essay intends to reveal the vision of cross-cultural in art history of Ruth B. Phillips “Aesthetic primitivism revisited: The global diaspora of ‘primitive art’ and the rise of Indigenous modernisms” has the characteristic of using "cases study" to constitute the backbone of the discussion. However, Phillips does not represent the fierce criticism of the hegemony of Western art modernism in the late twentieth century through the “case study”, but instead demonstrates the cross-cultural characteristics that touch the anthropological category and local context. This extraordinary way of writing with "case study" as the core, showing considerable particularity both in the field of art history methods and in the issue of "primitivism in modern art" which has sparked fierce controversy. This research aims at the operation method of Phillips’s "case study" to analyzes the thinking context, finding that the " case study " not only reflects Phillips’ reflection on the limitations of modernism in Western art, but also outlines a new cross-cultural assumption in the history of art with local characteristics.

This chapter explores movement and circulation across the Mediterranean and seeks to contribute to a history of proto-nationalism in the Maghrib and the Middle East at a particular moment prior to World War I. The discussion is particularly concerned with the interface of two Mediterranean spaces: the Middle East (Egypt, Ottoman Empire) and North Africa (Morocco), where the latter is viewed as a case study where resistance movements sought external allies as a way of compensating for their internal weakness. Applying methods developed by Subaltern Studies, and linking macro-historical approaches, namely of a translocal movement in the Muslim Mediterranean, it explores how the Egypt-based society, al-Ittihad al-Maghribi, through its agent, Aref Taher, used the press as an instrument for political propaganda, promoting its Pan-Islamic programme and its goal of uniting North Africa.
