Fathers find themselves increasingly in a social crisis, the fatherhood dilemma, and are misrepresented in various studies and theories intended to shed light on the relationship between mothers and children. Fathers were once considered the pillar of the family, but, over time, society has begun to grapple with father absence as a family issue. This issue has caused a decline in the role and status of fathers. The decline in active fatherhood is a major driving force and one of many issues in society alongside social ills such as crime, violence and poverty. Research has showed that absent fathers affect the development of masculinity in boys and femininity in girls. Families and faith-based communities are directly challenged by father absence. The absence of fathers is a destructive phenomenon and tendency that society has to deal with globally. The role of the father has been devalued and degraded because of father absence. The purpose of this article was to minimise the effects of absent fathers through mentoring which can be a valuable platform for fathers, and it has a biblical nature to solve family issues. Furthermore, mentoring results in a relationship of trust and meaningful commitment, and it provides a helpful and supportive approach to helping fathers who grapple with fatherhood issues. The literature review as a methodology in this article, provided significant knowledge and rich insights to help and support fathers who grapple with fatherhood issues. In addition, the mentoring principles discussed in this study are useful and part of the solution for fathers with fatherhood issues. Mentoring and its process in the paradigm of pastoral theology can be a workable and a possible solution in the confines of households to restore relationships within broken families. This conceptualised from a biblical viewpoint as a solution for Christian fathers. In conclusion, mentoring is a decisive necessity for fathers who grapple with family issues. Relationships are an attribute of families, and mentoring is about relationships. Fathers can be mentored to become great assets to family and society.Contribution: The fatherhood issue is a serious problem in the South African context and no fatherly presence is a negative and devastating trend in many South African homes. Consequently, mentoring as an approach can be a significant contribution to fathers who grapple with fatherhood issues.

Abstract. This article presents a Therapeutic Assessment (TA; Finn, 2007 ) case study of a teenage girl assessed because of a complex set of symptoms: history of suicidal statements, sensory sensitivity, questions about gender identity, depression, anxiety/OCD, and possible subclinical psychotic symptoms. Logan’s parents, Joe and Susan, participated in the assessment, with Susan attending every appointment and Joe attending only the first and last. Ten instruments were administered, with each providing information about different aspects of Logan. The Thurston Cradock Test of Shame (TCTS; Thurston & Cradock O’Leary, 2009 ) scores and analysis encompassed all of the other test findings, clarified details not fully explained by tests such as the Rorschach and MMPI-A, and brought the core adolescent and family issue of shame to the foreground. When the assessors explained shame to Logan’s mother, she was better able to understand her daughter’s shame and connect with her own feelings of shame. When Logan’s father arrived for the final feedback session, he was quite tense, argumentative, and threatened to cancel the appointment. The TCTS allowed the assessors to understand Joe’s aggressive behavior as signs of TCTS defenses of deflation, aggression, and inflation/contempt, appreciate his underlying feelings of shame, and to delicately restore the “interpersonal bridge” ( Kaufman, 1996 ), which is key to reducing shame. As a result, Joe’s defensiveness decreased, and he was open to continuing the feedback session. In the end, Joe was able to identify with his daughter in a new way and even admit his own sense of shame in the session. This provided an opportunity for healing in the whole family.

The present article analyzes V.V. Rozanov’s philosophic views on family and marriage in comparison with the present status of these institutions in Russia. The authors stress the fact that many of his ideas are unquestionably relevant now and that Rozanov’s position has much in common with the postulates of the family sociology paradigm. The article addressed the main vectors, related to the transformation of the institution of family, namely the increase of the number of divorces, decrease of marriage and childbirth levels. A few opinions of V.V. Rozanov are, however, criticized, such as his views on the place and role of divorce in the life of the society, the idealization of the spousal relationships. The authors conclude that, alongside with honoring the personal freedom of each of the individuals who enter into marriage, the future spouses need a certain minimal level of moral life in order to be able to shoulder and bear the burden of this liberty.

The third chapter describes the changes in the main conceptualisations of gender equality and GM in relations with social and gender policies and their development over time in Europe. Is it clear that there are different potential instruments available in the gender equality perspective and the relevance of the gender mainstreaming strategy for social policies is to propose and pursue the introduction of a gender equality perspective to all policies at all levels of governance. In particular, the chapter analyseshow policies are addressing the gender mainstreaming perspective and if and how different welfare states and welfare regimes could influence the way in which gender measures and policies are implemented. The work-family issue is a field of application and verification in evaluating the degree of gender equality options within a welfare state system in a comparative way. The issue of evaluation of gender and social policies is also considered in the analysis of the gender budgeting and gender auditing strategies applied to measure the implementation and the effectiveness of gender mainstreaming.
