The use of Antiretroviral drugs in treating HIV/ AIDS patients has enormously increased their life spans with serious disadvantages. The virus infection still remains a public health problem worldwide with no cure and vaccine for the viral agent until now. The use of nanoparticles (NPs) for the treatment and prevention of HIV/AIDS is an emerging technology of the 21st century. NPs are solid and colloid particles with 10 nm to <1000 nm size range; although, less than 200 nm is the recommended size for nanomedical usage. There are NPs with therapeutic capabilities such as liposomes, micelles, dendrimers and nanocapsules. The particle enters the body mainly via oral intake, direct injection and inhalation. It has been proven to have potentials of advancing the prevention and treatment of the viral agent. Certain NPs have been shown to have selftherapeutic activity for the virus in vitro. Strategies that are novel are emerging which can be used to improve nanotechnology, such as genetic treatment and immunotherapy. In this review, nanoparticles, the types and its characteristics in drug delivery were discussed. The light was furthermore shed on its implications in the prevention and treatment of HIV/AIDS.

Although the majority of specialists and researchers in the field of HIV/AIDS are aware and knowledgeable about HIV-associated neurocognitive disorder (HAND) as a condition that affects as much as 50% of people living with HIV/AIDS (PLWH), research has documented that many health care and service providers who work directly with PLWH are either unaware of HAND or believe they do not know enough information about HAND to effectively support their clients experiencing neurocognitive challenges. Based on the findings of a qualitative study that interviewed 33 health care and service providers in HIV/AIDS services to identify and examine their awareness and knowledge on HAND, this article argues for utilizing a combination of Public Health Informatics principles; communication techniques, propagation strategies, and recognized approaches from Implementation and Dissemination Science; and social media and online discussion platforms, in addition to traditional Knowledge Mobilization strategies, to scale up information sharing on HAND among all relevant stakeholders. Increasing information sharing among stakeholders would be an important step to raising awareness and knowledge on HAND, and consequently, improving care, services, and support for PLWH and neurocognitive issues.

As HIV/AIDS continues to spread and affect the lives of millions of people, a sense of urgency has developed about the imperative need to stop the epidemic. Education is the key to change knowledge, attitudes and behaviour. There is currently a gap in educationprogrammes targeting youths of ages 18-24 years, for example, those enrolled in tertiary institutions. The aim of the study was therefore to establish the level of HIV/AIDS awareness among undergraduate pharmacy students at the University of Limpopo (Medunsa Campus)/ Tshwane University of Technology Schools of Pharmacy. A structured questionnaire was administered to pharmacy students on entry to the programme. Although the students of 2003, 2004 and 2005 obtained mean percentage HIV/AIDS awareness scores in the range of 70%-80%, they had inadequate knowledge of some transmission routes, events that occur when HIV invades the body, the “window period” and some symptoms. These knowledge gaps should be addressed by universities by integrating HIV/AIDS policies and education fully into all aspects of their planning, operations andteaching.

Background: AIDS (Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome) is a collection of symptoms or diseases caused by a decrease in the immune system from the body due to infection from the HIV (Human Immunodeficiency Virus) which belongs to the retroviridae family. Teenagers themselves are vulnerable to HIV/AIDS. The right and precise knowledge of HIV and AIDS is important in HIV prevention efforts in adolescents. Method: This research is a descriptive research with cross-sectional design. The sample population of this study was grade XII senior high school students of the 2020/2021 at Methodist – 2 Medan by sampling total sampling. This study was analyzed univariately to look at the descriptive images. Result: From the results of this study, it has obtained that the knowledge level of students grade XII Methodist - 2 Medan had good knowledge about HIV / AIDS with the number of 144 people (70.6%). Conclusion: From this study, it was found that the level of knowledge about HIV/AIDS was mostly in a good category.

Abstract Background The Global Fund has been a major funding source for HIV/AIDS programs in Myanmar. In this qualitative study, we aim to understand the impact of Global Fund on national HIV/AIDS response in Myanmar during the era of Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). Methods We conducted individual in-depth interviews by recruiting key informants through purposive snowball sampling. The respondents were engaged in the national/subnational response to HIV/AIDS in Myanmar and worked for the United Nations agencies, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), and civil society. Interview questions were organized around the role of Global Fund in strengthening national response to HIV/AIDS in the six building blocks of the Myanmar’s health system. Transcripts from the key informants were synthesized into specific themes through a deductive approach. Results We found that the Global Fund has provided substantial support to (1) finance the national HIV/AIDS response in Myanmar, and (2) strengthen leadership and governance at the central level through improving coordination and collaboration, including more stakeholders (e.g. civil society, NGOs) in decision making process, and catalyzing policy changes on scaling-up key interventions. Yet, its role remains limited in addressing new demands at the township level in terms of capacity building, staffing, and medical supply resulting from rapid scale-up of HIV interventions and decentralization of service delivery in the public sector. Conclusion There was a missed opportunity for Myanmar to capitalize on the use of the Global Fund’s funding to strengthen the health system. Deliberate planning is required to optimize the use of those scarce resources to provide universal coverage for HIV/AIDS.

HIV/AIDS had been percolating in central Africa since the early twentieth century, but it appeared in its now recognizable form in the spring of 1981. Doctors in America spotted a strange increase in rare infections and Kaposi’s sarcoma, especially in sexually active gay men. In 1982, it was named acquired immune deficiency syndrome (AIDS). ‘HIV/AIDS’ explains that soon afterward the virus was identified as the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), a complex retrovirus with several different identities. HIV makes its way into the body via infected fluids and can affect all members of society. There is no vaccine, but HIV/AIDS is now treatable, although access to drugs is uneven.

HIV/AIDS spreads so quickly and so destructively that it supersedes all disasters ever attacks human civilization. No branch of scientists can declare them aloof or abstain from it. So the agriculturists are very closely concern with its research-issues, nutritional remedies and agro-based care. We know, HIV stands for human immunodeficiency virus. It is the virus that causes AIDS. A member of a group of viruses called retroviruses, HIV infects human cells and uses the energy and nutrients provided by those cells to grow and reproduce. AIDS stands for acquired immunodeficiency syndrome. It is a disease in which the body's immune system breaks down and is unable to fight off infections, known as "opportunistic infections," and other illnesses that take advantage of a weakened immune system. Opportunistic infections are various in types and it needs not only the care from health professionals rather it deserves agriculturists, nutritionists and social scientists to combat together. When a person is infected with HIV, the virus enters the body and lives and multiplies primarily in the white blood cells. These are immune cells that normally protect us from disease. The hallmark of HIV infection is the progressive loss of a specific type of immune cell called T-helper, or CD4 cells. As the virus grows, it damages or kills these and other cells, weakening the immune system and leaving the person vulnerable to various opportunistic infections and other illnesses ranging from pneumonia to cancer. Understanding how the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) works inside the human cell gives all scientists important ways about how to attack it at its most vulnerable points and clues to start research. Knowing the secrets of how the virus functions and reproduces itself -- a process called its ‘life-cycle'- can help scientists design new drugs and nutritional supplements those are more effective at suppressing HIV and support the affected lives. This study will draw a clear and easy-to-understand picture for every scientist, obviously the agriculturists too, being alert and keeping their lives safe from this fatal conjugation of HIV and help to invent natural and/or plant remedies to prevent or suspend HIV's aggression, as long as we concern. The changes in oxidative status indicators in patients with newly diagnosed HIV/AIDS-associated pulmonary tuberculosis after the treatment depending on the course of the therapy were evaluated. It was found the increasing in the levels of protein peroxidation markers in spontaneous and induced oxidation and of lipid peroxidation markers in patients who treated with standard anti-TB and antiretroviral therapy in the dynamics. Its indicates the rise of the oxidative stress severity and disruption of adaptive-compensatory mechanisms, that exacerbates the disease. There were decreased levels of oxidative stress markers in dynamics and in comparison with indicators of other patients after 3 months of treatment in patients, who received the additional treatment with additional pathogenetic therapy with the inclusion of Contrycal, Glutoxim and laser therapy. The antioxidant protection indicators in patients, who received the additional pathogenetic treatment returned to normal or increased in the dynamics and these levels were higher, than that of other patients. In patients, treated with standard therapy, most indicators decreased in dynamics and in comparison with rates in control patients, and patients from the1 group. This suggests an imbalance in the oxidative status in the body after the standard treatment appointment and necessity of its pathogenetic correction.

The HIV/AIDS epidemic has become one of the most dangerous causes leading to millions of deaths around the world a year. To date, there have not had effective anti-HIV drugs in the treatment of HIV/AIDS because of emerging drug-resistant HIV mutants. In this work, potential non-nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitors (NNRTIs) were studied by means of molecular docking. The Diversity “drug-like” database from the National Cancer Institute, is composed of 1.420 compounds, was performed docking into the NNRTI binding pocket of HIV-1 reverse transcriptase crystal structure (1fk9) by using Autodock version 4.2.6. Pharmacokinetic properties (absorption, distribution, metabolism and excretion (ADME)) and toxicity of potential inhibitors within the body were predicted by the PreADMET version 2.0. The obtained results point out that the compound, coded 2518, was discovered as a potential inhibitor that has good human intestinal absorption, weakly bound to plasma proteins as well as is negative to mutagenicity and carcinogenicity. This rational inhibitor would be further studied in order to contribute informations finding new anti-HIV drugs.
