By virtue of the systematic effects of S-doping on CeO2 and the ultrathin shell structure of CdS, the CeO2−xSx@CdS nanocomposite exhibits excellent photocatalytic activity under visible-light illumination for both H2 evolution (rate up to 1147.2 μmol g−1 h−1) and RhB degradation (efficiency reached 99.8%) as compared to CeO2, CeO2−xSx, and CdS.

A new-type photocatalyst of cadmium sulfide carbon nanotubes ( CdS /CNTs) was prepared by the hydrothermal method. This as-prepared CdS /CNTs composite photocatalyst was proved to exhibit an excellent photocatalytic activity for degradation of tetracycline (TC). Specially, the 95%- CdS –5%-CNTs composite photocatalyst played the best degradation rate (81.2%) in 60 min under the visible light irradiation. Moreover, this 95%- CdS –5%-CNTs composite photocatalyst possessed great stability and could be used at least four cycles with almost no loss of photocatalytic efficiency. Furthermore, the as-synthesized CdS /CNTs composite photocatalyst was characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), UV-Vis diffused reflectance spectra (UV-Vis), Raman and thermal gravimetry (TG). In addition, the possible mechanism and kinetics of photodegradation of TC with CdS /CNTs photocatalyst was also discussed.

CuS hexagonal nanosheet/graphene was fabricated by a facile one-pot microwave-thermal method. The samples possess excellent photocatalytic activity for degradation of organic pollutant under visible light. The high photocatalytic activity was attributed to the deposition of CuS hexagonal nanosheet onto graphene. CuS nanosheet serves as a transporter which efficiently inhibits the recombination of the photo-induced charge carriers in the nanocomposites. The developed method demonstrates a facile approach towards the synthesis of two-dimensional semiconductor-graphene nanocomposites with excellent photocatalytic performance under visible light.
