Nickel-containing mixed ceria-zirconia oxides also doped by Nb and Ti have been prepared by a citrate route and by original solvothermal continuous flow synthesis in supercritical alcohols. Nickel was subsequently deposited by conventional insipient wetness impregnation. The oxides are comprised of ceria-zirconia solid solution with cubic fluorite phase. Negligible amounts of impurities of zirconia are observed for samples prepared by citrate route and doped by Ti. Supports prepared by supercritical synthesis are single-phased. XRD data, Raman, and UV-Vis DR (diffuse reflectance) spectroscopy suggest increasing lattice parameter and amount of oxygen vacancies in fluorite structure after Nb and Ti incorporation despite of the preparation method. These structural changes correlate with the catalytic activity in a methane dry reforming reaction. Catalysts synthesized under supercritical conditions are more active than the catalysts of the same composition prepared by the citrate route. The catalytic activity of samples doped with Ti and Nb is two times higher in terms of TOF (turnover frequency) and increased stability of these catalysts is attributed with the highest oxygen mobility being crucial for gasification of coke precursors.

<p>Production of CO-rich hydrogen gas from methane dry reforming was investigated over CeO2-supported Co catalyst. The catalyst was synthesized by wet impregnation and subsequently characterized by field emission scanning electron microscope (FESEM), energy dispersion X-ray spectroscopy (EDX), liquid N2 adsorption-desorption, X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) for the structure, surface and thermal properties. The catalytic activity test of the Co/CeO2 was investigated between 923-1023 K under reaction conditions in a stainless steel fixed bed reactor. The composition of the products (CO2 and H2) from the methane dry reforming reaction was measured by gas chromatography (GC) coupled with thermal conductivity detector (TCD). The effects of feed ratios and reaction temperatures were investigated on the catalytic activity toward product selectivity, yield, and syngas ratio. Significantly, the selectivity and yield of both H2 and CO increases with feed ratio and temperature. However, the catalyst shows higher activity towards CO selectivity. The highest H2 and CO selectivity of 19.56% and 20.95% respectively were obtained at 1023 K while the highest yield of 41.98% and 38.05% were recorded for H2 and CO under the same condition. Synthetic gas - a combination of (H2) and (CO) - is an important chemical intermediate for the production of liquid hydrocarbon, olefin, gasoline, and other valuable chemicals. Several reforming methods that use steam, carbon dioxide, and oxygen in the presence of various catalytic systems have been extensively investigated, and this paper reviews the recent research on the state-of-the-art of reforming technologies and the effect of parameters on the catalytic activity of mesoporous silica/alumina supported nickel catalysts for syngas production by methane dry reforming. First, we provide an overview of reforming technologies, including methane dry reforming, steam methane reforming, partial oxidation of CH4, and auto thermal reforming of CH4. Then, we review the literature on dry reforming catalysts. Next, we describe recent findings on the effect of parameters on the catalytic activity of mesoporous silica/alumina supported nickel catalysts for syngas production. Finally, we make proposals for future research. This study can help achieve a better understanding of the reforming technologies and the effects of parameters on catalytic performance for syngas production, thus contributing to the development of green technologies.

Catalytic activity of nickel-molybdenum catalysts for methanation of carbon monoxide and hydrogen was studied by means of differential scanning calorimetry. The activity of NiMoOx systems exceeds that of carrier-free nickel if x < 2, and is conditioned by the oxidation degree of molybdenum, changing in dependence on the composition in the region Mo-MoO2. The activity of the catalysts is adversely affected by irradiation by fast neutrons, dose 28.1 Gy, or by γ rays using doses in the region 0.8-52 kGy. The system is most susceptible to irradiation in the region of low concentrations of the minor component (about 1 mol.%). The dependence of changes in catalytic activity of γ-irradiated samples on the dose exhibits a maximum in the range of 2-5 kGy. The changes in catalytic activity are stimulated by the change of reactivity of the starting mixed oxides, leading to different kinetics of their reduction and modification of their adsorption properties. The irradiation of the catalysts results in lowered concentration of the active centres for the methanation reaction.
