Micro milling is currently being used to make micro-sized products, such as in MEMS, medical devices, etc. But in the process of machining, especially in roughing process, micro milling spends a lot of energy that can still be reduced to contribute to green manufacturing. This study focuses on developing the model of energy consumption during the micro milling processes. The model is then used to map the energy consumption from different cutting toolpaths and strategies. Furthermore this study also comparing and characterizing the energy consumed between macro milling and micro milling of the same part shape but with significant different in size. In conclusion, this study shows different characteristics and comparison in energy consumption between micro milling and macro milling.

Recent market studies show that the market for remote monitoring devices of different medical parameters will grow exponentially. Globally, more than 4 million individuals will be monitored remotely from the perspective of different health parameters by 2023. Of particular importance is the way of remote transmission of the information acquired from the medical sensors. At this time, there are several methods such as Bluetooth, WI-FI, or other wireless communication interfaces. Recently, the communication based on LoRa (Long Range) technology has had an explosive development that allows the transmission of information over long distances with low energy consumption. The implementation of the IoT (Internet of Things) applications using LoRa devices based on open Long Range Wide-Area Network (LoRaWAN) protocol for long distances with low energy consumption can also be used in the medical field. Therefore, in this paper, we proposed and developed a long-distance communication architecture for medical devices based on the LoRaWAN protocol that allows data communications over a distance of more than 10 km.

The manufacturing sector has greater responsibility for conducting and operating its business. The primary objective of every unit is to maximize profits. The manufacturing sector is the key driver of energy consumption and if an automobile consumes high fuel or if the resources are under-utilized, it is definitely the fault of the manufacturer. If we seriously need a solution to these problems, we need to change the way we design, manufacture, and sell the products. The manufacturing sector must use energy and resources efficiently. ‘Green Manufacturing' or sustainable industrial activity is the need of the hour and the Government of India requires the manufacturing sector to play a bigger role in the country's economy. This paper focuses on the initiative taken by the industries to make the environment eco-friendly. The paper further will emphasize upon a case study of Hero MotoCop.

In recent years, the industry's responsibility to join in sustainable manufacturing becomes huge, while innovating sustainability has been a new trend. Industrial enterprises are pursuing energy reduction to meet future needs for sustainable globalization and government legislations for green manufacturing. To run a manufacturing line in an energy-efficient manner, an energy-oriented maintenance methodology is developed. At the machine layer, the multi-attribute model (MAM) method is extended by modeling the energy attribute. Preventive maintenance (PM) intervals of each machine are dynamically scheduled according to the machine deterioration, maintenance effects, and environmental conditions. At the system layer, a novel energy saving window (ESW) policy is proposed to reduce energy for the whole line. Energy consumption interactivities, batch production characteristics, and system-layer maintenance opportunities are comprehensively considered. Real-time choice of PM adjustments is scheduled by comparing the energy savings of advanced PM and delayed PM. The results prove the energy reduction achieved by this MAM-ESW methodology. It effectively utilizes standby power, reduces energy consumption, avoids manufacturing breakdown, and decreases scheduling complexity. Furthermore, this energy-oriented maintenance framework can be applied not only in the automotive industry but also for a broader range of manufacturing domains such as the aerospace, semiconductor, and chemical industries.

A platform for sliding vane pump and centrifugal pump tests is installed to study the series operation of them under different characteristics of pipeline. Firstly, the sliding vane pump and the centrifugal pump work independently, and the performance is recorded. Then, the two types of pumps are combined together, with the sliding vane pump acting as the feeding pump. Comparison is made between the performance of the independently working pump and the performance of series operation pump. Results show that the system flow rate is determined by the sliding vane pump. In order to ensure the stability of the series operation pumping system, the energy consumption required by the pipeline under the system flow should be greater than the pressure energy centrifugal pump can generate. Otherwise, the centrifugal pump can not operate stably, with reflux, swirl, gas-liquid two-phase flow in the runner and strong vibration and noise. The sliding vane pump can be in serial operation with the centrifugal pump under limited conditions.

The equipment and technology characteristics of endless strip production line in Rizhao steel were analyzed and the achievements of endless strip production in Rizhao steel were illustrated with detailed productive data in 2017. The achievements of endless continuous casting process was introduced from the aspects of the mold level deviation, the casting speed and the tundish temperature. The achievements of endless continuous rolling process was described from the rolling length, the mechanical properties and the microstructure at different position along the width. The achievements of endless continuous casting and rolling process was discussed from the product qualification rate, the yield rate, the thin strip ratio, the accident rate and the energy consumption. The productive practice of endless strip production (ESP) shows that the longest number of continuous casting furnace reached to 15 heats (4500 tons), the longest rolling length in single casting period was 182 km, the qualified rate of products was up to 99.73%, the yield rate was up to 97.51% and the thin strip ratio had a maximum value of 40.57%. At the same time, its accident rate was below 2.02% and its energy consumption was less than 27.26 kgce·ton-1. These achievements indicated that the ESP line in Rizhao steel had the advantages of low cost, good performance and green manufacturing, so the endless rolling technology will be rapidly promoted and the hot rolled thin products by ESP will further expand the market.

Combination of corrugated-surface drying column and multipass drying concept (first-pass and second-pass drying) was made to increase the performance of a pneumatic dryer for high-moisture paddy. In this study, different characteristics of the drying column, which could be characterized by the ratio between the corrugated-surface length (C) and the total length (L) of the drying column (or C/L), were proposed. The influences of drying temperature (120oC, 150oC, and 180oC) and value of C/L (0, 0.5 and 1.0) on the dryer performance and energy utilization of the drying process were disscussed. The drying column with a higher value of C/L had higher potential for increasing dryer performance. For the first-pass drying, the drying system using the drying column with corrugated surface could reduce the energy consumption by 14% to 44% compared with the drying system using the drying column without corrugated surface. For the second-pass drying, the drying system using the drying column with corrugated surface consumed more energy, however. The moisture reduction of paddy could also be significantly increased after the second-pass drying.

Abstract This study analyzes six different refrigerants with different characteristics using the same rooftop air conditioner considering the environmental effects unlike other studies. All evaluations are drafted in two different scenarios, thanks to the equal refrigerant charge amount and equal energy consumption to make the performance review more accurate. Cooling capacity, energy consumption, temperature and pressure values are obtained through a numerical simulation program so as to obtain performance values. In order to prove the accuracy of the values obtained from the simulation program, the rooftop air conditioner using R410A refrigerant is tested in the laboratory environment. The Life Cycle Climate Performance method is used for environmental analyses to calculate the carbon emissions of six different refrigerants in two different scenarios. These experimental tests are carried out at outdoor temperatures of 20ºC, 25ºC, 30ºC and 35ºC. The maximum difference in cooling capacity, energy consumption and energy efficiency is determined as 2.8% between simulation and experimental outputs. According to the results from and equal refrigerant charged and equal energy consumption scenarios, R410A, R454B and R32 refrigerants are found to have better cooling capacities than other refrigerants in performance analyses.
