In the context of the new era, low-carbon environmental protection has become a fashion, and the concept of low-carbon has gradually become popular. This article starts from the research direction of product design, integrates the low-carbon concept into product design, and analyzes the problems in product design in China from the four stages of production, use, storage, transportation and recycling. In order to solve these problems, the guiding methods of product design under the low-carbon concept are given from the aspects of technology, materials, structure, and recycling, further demonstrate that the low-carbon concept promotes the development of product design.

Since the 18th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, the integration of ecological civilization construction with the development of economy, politics, culture, and society has not only been an established strategy of deepening and consolidating the “five-sphere integrated plan” of socialism with Chinese characteristics, but it has also been an important approach to achieve ecological civilization. In order to realize it, “integration” is the living soul. Integration means that on one hand, ecological civilization construction should be in step with economic and social development; on the other hand, it is inherent with the strategic thinking that priority should be given to ecology and environmental protection. This paper explains how ecological civilization construction is integrated with economic development and also discusses its strategies and paths. The findings are as follows: The first is to cling to the bottom line that no major ecological disasters should happen. This requires adherence to the basic state policy of environmental protection, restructuring of conventional industries and transformation of development patterns. The second is to adhere to the philosophy that industrialization, urbanization, informatization, agricultural modernization and greenization be promoted simultaneously, so that they can complement with the “five-sphere integrated plan”. This requires that a green, low carbon, and recyclable path should be pursued. The third is to stay open and forward-looking. In the new era of ecological civilization with new fashion and trends, active measures should be taken to build a modern ecological and industrial development system in order to lay a solid foundation for ecological civilization construction.

The method of system design and advanced tools mean that the use of paper props can be promoted. The optimization of blank design is the key to the implementation of a green innovation strategy. The process of blank design determines more than 80% of resource consumption and environmental emissions during the blank processing. Unfortunately, the traditional blank design method based on function and quality is not suitable for today’s sustainable development concept. In order to solve this problem, a research method of blank design optimization based on a low-carbon and low-cost process route optimization is proposed. Aiming at the processing characteristics of complex box type blank parts, the concept of the workstep element is proposed to represent the characteristics of machining parts, a low-carbon and low-cost multi-objective optimization model is established, and relevant constraints are set up. In addition, an intelligent generation algorithm of a working step chain is proposed, and combined with a particle swarm optimization algorithm to solve the optimization model. Finally, the feasibility and practicability of the method are verified by taking the processing of the blank of an emulsion box as an example. The data comparison shows that the comprehensive performance of the low-carbon and low-cost multi-objective optimization is the best, which meets the requirements of low-carbon processing, low-cost, and sustainable production.

Low-carbon product design involves a redesign process that requires not only structural module modification, but more importantly, generating innovative principles to solve design contradictions. Such contradictions include when current design conditions cannot satisfy design requirements or there are antithetical design goals. On the other hand, configuration tasks in the reconfiguration process are interdependent, which requires a well-scheduled arrangement to reduce feedback information. This study proposes an effective configuration methodology for low-carbon design. Firstly, configuration tasks and configuration parameters are designated through quality characteristics, and the directed network along with the associated values of configuration tasks are transformed into the design structure matrix to construct the information flow diagram. Then, the Extenics-based problem-solving model is presented to address design contradictions: low-carbon incompatibility and antithetical problems are clarified and formulated with a basic-element model; extensible and conjugate analysis tools are used to identify problematic structures and provide feasible measures; the Gantt chart of measures execution based on the information flow diagram is constructed to reduce feedback and generate robust schemes with strategy models. The methodology is applied to the vacuum pump low-carbon design, the results show that it effectively solves contradictions with innovative design schemes, and comparative analysis verifies the performance of Extenics.

The purpose of this research is the development of new design method for integrating the optimum strength evaluation and the product design which can make the best use of material's characteristics obtained by the experiment and the analysis. Further we do design using high-strength composite material with this developed concept which is different from conventional design. First, to establish this design method of high-strength materials, we examined these materials characteristics and manufacturing methods and the commercialized products. As this research target material, we focus the fiber reinforced materials such as composite with carbon fiber, glass fiber and aramid fiber. Above all, we marked the carbon fiber which has the high specific tensile strength, wear resistance, heat conductivity and conductance. Here, we introduce the fundamental design concept which makes the best use of the design with enough strength.

This paper presents the concept and the fundamental issues and the development on the environmental geotechnology in transmission lines foundation engineering. Namely, environmental geotechnology and theory is to study the restriction effects of environment on the transmission line routes, foundation selection and reliability, to predict the results of transmission line foundation construction on the environment, and to study on countermeasures of environmental protection in transmission foundation engineering. And then, from the above three aspects, the design method combined strength and displacement for tower foundation, the selection on foundation types and technical scheme for transmission line tower, and the countermeasures for soil and water conservation, the author introduces the development and practice of environmental geotechnology for transmission lines foundation engineering in China.

Abstract Hydropower is the second largest conventional energy resource in China. It is a renewable energy with mature technology, flexible operation, cleanliness and low carbon. A hydropower project has flood control, a water supply, navigation, irrigation and other comprehensive utilization functions. The new era in China is guided by the new energy-security strategy of ‘four revolutions and one cooperation’ and the new development concept of ‘innovation, coordination, green development, openness and sharing’. According to the dual nature of water and electricity, this paper deepens the basic understanding of hydropower from the experience of the world, the difficult problems of hydropower in China and the long-term development of hydropower enterprises. The future direction of hydropower development is explored from the following aspects: high-quality development of follow-up hydropower projects, innovative utilization of existing hydropower value, creative pursuit of hydropower-benefit growth and high-level promotion of hydropower international cooperation.
