Based on the Novachip ultra-thin layer project in the expressway, the material characteristics, mixture design and road performance of Novachip asphalt mixture are introduced. The application effect of Novachip ultra-thin layer was observed. The results show that Novachip ultra-thin layer has no obvious effect on improving the smoothness of the original road surface. Novachip ultra-thin layer has obvious effect on improving the rutting, and has a good anti-skid performance.

There is an important effect on road safety with no lighting facilities near the wild road. With the piezoelectric materials embedded in the asphalt concrete as the smart aggregates, the piezoelectric asphalt concrete transforms the vibrational energy of road surface into electrical energy, to supply the road lighting facilities or be stored up. In this study, the electrical energy of piezoelectric-embedded asphalt mixture by using UTM and wheel tester. The results show that PMnS-PZN-PZT ceramic doped with 0.45wt% Fe2O3 (4mm×8pieces) be embedded in the AC-10 asphalt concrete which can obtain well road performance and micropower electrical energy.

Expansion joints are a weak and fragile part of bridge superstructure. The damage or failure of the expansion joint will lead to the decline of bridge durability and endanger the bridge structure and traffic safety. To improve the service life and performance of bridge expansion joints, the ideal method is to use seamless expansion joints. In this study, starting from the commonly used asphalt mixture gradation of seamless expansion joint, and taking into account the actual situation of bridge expansion joint structure and environment in China, the gradation and asphalt-aggregate ratio are preliminarily designed. Through a Marshall test, the corresponding asphalt mixture is evaluated and analyzed according to the stability, flow value, and void ratio, and the optimal gradation and asphalt-aggregate ratio are determined. Finally, the asphalt mixture is prepared with the mixture ratio design, and the test results of an immersion Marshall test, fatigue performance test, and full-scale test verify that the asphalt mixture meets the road performance requirements of seamless expansion joints. On the basis of the experimental data, the performance of large sample asphalt mixture is continuously tested, compared, and optimized. The results show that the asphalt mixture ratio designed is true and reliable, which can provide reference for the optimal design of seamless expansion joint filler.

In order to improve the durability of asphalt pavement, low-temperature fracture performance of AC-13 asphalt mixture with different fiber types were studied by three-point bending fracture test under different temperatures and presawed positions. Test results show that the improvement effect of basalt fiber is obvious and stable. The improvement effect of polyester fiber is not obvious to resist I crack, and the resistance effect of I-II compound crack is obvious. Lignin fiber mixed in the asphalt mixture has no obvious effect on improving the crack resistance property under low temperature. Fiber cooperated with asphalt mixture can improve the ability of low-temperature fracture performance, while the improvement degree is effected by fiber type. Low-temperature fracture performance of asphalt mixture improves with the increase of temperature within a certain temperature range. The presawed position has significant effect on the low-temperature fracture performance of asphalt mixture. The larger the horizontal distance of the presawed position and center load is, the stronger the low-temperature fracture performance of asphalt mixture presents.

Porous asphalts pavement arouses the attentions of the world by its good performance such as reduce the potential for hydroplaning, reduce splash and spray, improve visibility, decline traffic noise, and improve driving safety. But the void clogging lessens its durable function. So in this paper appropriate clogging agent was choose, and seepage coefficients were tested by using asphalt mixture pavement surface permeameter to simulation multi-cycle drainage clogging test. The influence of asphalt mixture design parameter such as the porosity, the maximum sizes of the aggregate, gradation and asphalt on the drainage and counter-clogging ability of porous asphalts was researched. The tests indicated that the porosity has an obvious influence on both porous asphalts’ permeable ability and counter-clogging ability. Comparing the specimen of 21% void to the ones of 16% void, the drain ability is improved 49.8%, the counter-clogging ability is improved 55.0%. The maximum sizes of the aggregate has an obvious influence on porous asphalts’ counter-clogging ability, but no an obvious influence on the drain ability. Comparing the specimen of 16mm to the 13mm, the counterclogging ability is proved 48%. PAC with the coarser graduation has a better performance on drain and counter-clogging ability. TPS modifier changes PAC little on drain and counter-clogging ability.
