This paper mainly studies the performance of axisymmetric radial interaction between soil and structure under radial stress. One of the key points is the research on the mechanical properties of the interface. The latter is now the frontier field, and also the focus of this paper's theoretical analysis. Based on FEM, a large-scale international finite element software, this paper attempts to establish a general comprehensive model with comparative function through the advantages of numerical simulation. After obtaining the results, the analysis focuses on the influence of different materials on the interaction, and summarizes the stress field, strain field, displacement field and stress-strain relationship of the model under different materials.

This paper mainly studies the behavior of axisymmetric radial interaction between soil and structure under radial stress. Considering the possible factors in the interaction, such as the soil arching effect caused by the finite curvature, a simplified model is established. The influence of curvature change on the stress field, strain field, displacement field and stress-strain relationship is analyzed. Finally, the status of various factors in the axisymmetric radial interaction and the influence of their changes on the interaction are proposed.

Structural study of the soil is an important research content of soil mechanics. Based on the previous research results of soil structure, this paper puts forward the Gunary Model as a completely new form to describe the stress-strain relationship of soil, to discuss the method to determine soil strain considering structural parameter under the new model, to give the relevant function of the stress controlling structural parameter with stress. The results show that the Gunary Model is applicable to characterize the stress-strain relationship of soil, the parameter controls the fitting accuracy and decides the curve shape; by using the stress-strain expression of the Gunary Model, this paper finds the calculated value of stress controlling structural parameter and stress meets the two-parameter linear reciprocal function form.

Image deconvolution has been an important issue recently. It has two kinds of approaches: non-blind and blind. Non-blind deconvolution is a classic problem of image deblurring, which assumes that the PSF is known and does not change universally in space. Recently, Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) has been used for non-blind deconvolution. Though CNNs can deal with complex changes for unknown images, some CNN-based conventional methods can only handle small PSFs and does not consider the use of large PSFs in the real world. In this paper we propose a non-blind deconvolution framework based on a CNN that can remove large scale ringing in a deblurred image. Our method has three key points. The first is that our network architecture is able to preserve both large and small features in the image. The second is that the training dataset is created to preserve the details. The third is that we extend the images to minimize the effects of large ringing on the image borders. In our experiments, we used three kinds of large PSFs and were able to observe high-precision results from our method both quantitatively and qualitatively.

Engineering practitioners do not usually include soil–structure interactions in building design; rather, it is common to model and design foundations as embedded joints with joint–based reactions. In some cases, foundation structures are modeled as rigid bodies, embedding the first story into lower vertical elements. Given that the effects of underground floors on the seismic response are not generally included in current building design provisions, it has been little explored in the literature. This work compares and analyzes models to study the effects of different underground stories modeling approaches using earthquake vibration data recorded for the 16–story Alcazar building office in downtown Viña del Mar (Chile). The modeling expands beyond an embedded first story structure to soil with equivalent springs, representing soil–structure interaction (SSI), with varying rigid soil homogeneity. The building was modeled in a finite element software considering only dead load as a static load case because the structure remained in the framing stage when the monitoring system was operating. The instruments registered 72 aftershocks from the 2010 Maule Earthquake, and this study focused on 11 aftershocks of different hypocenters and magnitudes to collect representative information. The comparisons between empirical records and models in this study showed a better fit between the model and the real vibration data for the models that do consider the SSI using horizontal springs attached to the retaining walls of the underground stories. In addition, it was observed that applying a stiffness reduction factor of 0.7 to all elements in deformation verification models for average–height buildings was suitable to analyze the behavior under small earthquakes; better results are obtained embedding the structure in the foundation level than embedding in the street level; the use of horizontal springs with Kuesel’s model with traction for the analysis of the structure yields appropriate results; it is necessary to carefully select the spring constants to be used, paying special attention to the vertical springs. Even though the results presented herein indicate that the use of vertical springs to simulate the SSI of the base slab can result in major differences concerning the real response, it is necessary to obtain more data from instrumentation across a wider variety of structures to continue to evaluate better design and modeling practices. Similarly, further analyses, including nonlinear time–history and high–intensity events, are needed to best regulate building design.

This paper describes a methodological approach that is able to analyse socio-demographic and -economic data in large-scale spatial detail. Based on the two variables, population density and annual income, one investigates the spatial relationship of these variables to identify locations of imbalance or disparities assisted by bivariate choropleth maps. The aim is to gain a deeper insight into spatial components of socioeconomic nexuses, such as the relationships between the two variables, especially for high-resolution spatial units. The used methodology is able to assist political decision-making, target group advertising in the field of geo-marketing and for the site searches of new shop locations, as well as further socioeconomic research and urban planning. The developed methodology was tested in a national case study in Germany and is easily transferrable to other countries with comparable datasets. The analysis was carried out utilising data about population density and average annual income linked to spatially referenced polygons of postal codes. These were disaggregated initially via a readapted three-class dasymetric mapping approach and allocated to large-scale city block polygons. Univariate and bivariate choropleth maps generated from the resulting datasets were then used to identify and compare spatial economic disparities for a study area in North Rhine-Westphalia (NRW), Germany. Subsequently, based on these variables, a multivariate clustering approach was conducted for a demonstration area in Dortmund. In the result, it was obvious that the spatially disaggregated data allow more detailed insight into spatial patterns of socioeconomic attributes than the coarser data related to postal code polygons.

A method for determining the stress–strain relationship of a material from hardness values H obtained from cone indentation tests with various apical angles is presented. The materials studied were assumed to exhibit power-law hardening. As a result, the properties of importance are the Young's modulus E, yield strength Y, and the work-hardening exponent n. Previous work [W.C. Oliver and G.M. Pharr, J. Mater. Res. 7, 1564 (1992)] showed that E can be determined from initial force–displacement data collected while unloading the indenter from the material. Consequently, the properties that need to be determined are Y and n. Dimensional analysis was used to generalize H/E so that it was a function of Y/E and n [Y-T. Cheng and C-M. Cheng, J. Appl. Phys. 84, 1284 (1999); Philos. Mag. Lett. 77, 39 (1998)]. A parametric study of Y/E and n was conducted using the finite element method to model material behavior. Regression analysis was used to correlate the H/E findings from the simulations to Y/E and n. With the a priori knowledge of E, this correlation was used to estimate Y and n.

The simulation calculation on the temperature field of the disc brake system on high-speed trains under the working condition of constant speed at 50Km/h is made. A steady-state calculation model is established according to the actual geometric size of a brake disc and a brake pad, and the analog calculation and simulation on the temperature field of the brake disc and the brake pad by using the large-scale nonlinear finite element software ABAQUS are carried out. The distribution rules of the temperature field of the brake disc and the brake pad under the working condition of constant speed are made known. The surface temperature of the brake disc at friction radius is the highest, with a band distribution for temperature. There exists a temperature flex point in the direction of thickness, of which the thickness occupies 15% of that of the brake disc; due to the small volume of the brake pad, the temperature gradient of the whole brake pad is not sharp, and larger temperature gradient occurs only on the contact surface.
