Medical waste production has increased with many government and private hospitals and health centres due to the increase in the population, especially in the spread of Coronavirus Covid-19. This increase in medical waste is treating in medical incinerators. One of the advantages of incineration is the reduction of volume, weight and energy recovery. This paper examines the medical waste incinerator of one of the Medical City hospitals in Baghdad, as this incinerator internally divided into primary and secondary chambers. The medical waste for yellow bags placed in the primary chamber is burned with the help of air and a burner of 178-356 kW, resulting in waste burned. Then the combustion products pass through the secondary chamber, wherewith air and another burner of 178-356 kW, the combustion of gases and volatile materials from the waste completed. Air is then supplied to the flue gases to dilute the emission concentrations and reduce the flue gas temperature. This paper presents a study on the inputs and outputs of waste, air, fuel and the advantage of the heat quantity generated from the combustion of biomedical waste. As a result of this theoretical work, this incinerator provides an acceptable and durable solution to waste disposal problems and the risks of spreading viruses today.

Bio Medical waste refers to any type of waste which is generated during the diagnosis, treatment or immunization of human beings or animals or in research purposes pertaining to or in the fabrication or testing of biologicals. Objective: To assess the awareness about bio-medical waste management among Doctors and Nurses of Children Hospital.  Methods: Descriptive study was conducted in Children's Hospital and Institute of Child Health Lahore. Convenient Sampling Technique was applied to gather data. This was a hospital-based study in which staff members of both genders were included. The study population divided into two strata and these strata consisted of doctors and nurses. A total of 139 staff members were involved out of which there were 77 doctors, 62 nurses. Their responses checked by a Performa about problems in the management of biomedical waste. Results: The result showed that majority (62%) staff members had knowledge about bio-medical waste. The remaining staff had very basic knowledge about bio-medical waste. Conclusions: The awareness about BMW management among Children's Hospital Operation theater staff is satisfactory. But still, they need to improve their knowledge to ensure more patient safety by organizing seminars, workshops.

Medical waste incinerator fly ash (MWIFA) is quite different from municipal solid waste incinerator fly ash (MSWIFA) due to its special characteristics of high levels of chlorines, dioxins, carbon constituents, and heavy metals, which may cause irreversible harm to environment and human beings if managed improperly. However, treatment of MWIFA has rarely been specifically mentioned. In this review, various treatment techniques for MSWIFA, and their merits, demerits, applicability, and limitations for MWIFA are reviewed. Natural properties of MWIFA including the high contents of chlorine and carbonaceous matter that might affect the treatment effects of MWIFA are also depicted. Finally, several commendatory and feasible technologies such as roasting, residual carbon melting, the mechanochemical technique, flotation, and microwave treatment are recommended after an overall consideration of the special characteristics of MWIFA, balancing environmental, technological, economical information.

An increase in the heat transfer efficiency of the open-type heat recovery unit due to the sequential heat and mass transfer enhancement is considered. The graphs of variances in the water temperature, gas temperature, gas enthalpy and gas specific humidity at the end of each site are presented. The proposed designs of the open-type heat recovery unit can be used for the flue gas disposal, including the disposal of natural gas combustion products in the greenhouse facility.

Deposition, erosion, and corrosion (DEC) experiments were conducted using three coal-water fuels (CWF) in a staged subscale turbine combustor operated at conditions of a recuperated turbine. This rich-quench-lean (RQL) combustor appears promising for reducing NOx levels to acceptable levels for future turbines operating with CWF. Specimens were exposed in two test sections to the combustion products from the RQL combustor. The gas and most surface temperatures in the first and second test sections represented temperatures in the first stators and rotors, respectively, of a recuperated turbine. The test results indicate deposition is affected substantially by gas temperature, surface temperature, and unburned carbon due to incomplete combustion. The high rates of deposition observed at first stator conditions showed the need for additional tests to identify CWF coals with lower deposition tendencies and to explore deposition control measures such as hot gas cleanup.

AbstractThis research article is to survey the practice of biomedical waste such as collection, storage, transportation and disposal along with the amount of generated biomedical waste in various hospitals in Davangere city, and create awareness among the staff and patient about biomedical wastes. The survey result on biomedical waste generation, disposal and methods adopted in various hospitals of Davangere city are discussed.
