Based on the improved TOPSIS model, water resources carrying capacity research is carried out. On the basis of constructing a water resources evaluation index system, the weights are introduced from the traditionally constructed index matrix into the Euclidean distance of the TOPSIS model through subjective and objective weighting. When the ideal solution distance is the same, the larger weighted index corresponds to the greater water resources carrying capacity. The improved TOPSIS model is used to evaluate the water resources carrying. Taking Jinzhou as an example, we determine the advantages of water resources carrying capacity and the influencing factors of the short board in this area. The proposed method has certain theoretical and practical significance.

The uneven temporal and spatial distributions and the unreasonable development and utilization of water resources have caused increasingly severe water resources shortage around the world. Studying on regional water carrying capacity is beneficial for the optimal management of water resources, and can provide assistance for the sustainable utilization of water resources. The typical karst area in China – Guizhou province was applied as the research area in the paper. Meanwhile, twelve indexes were selected from three perspectives including water supply, water demand and social economy to establish the evaluation index system of regional water carrying capacity. Afterwards, the analysis hierarchy process was utilized to construct the evaluation model of regional water resources carrying capacity, so as to evaluate, compare and analyze the regional water carrying capacity in each city of Guizhou province, China. This model verified the feasibility of the evaluation method. Relevant studies can provide certain theory evidence and method support for the investigation on regional water carrying capacity.

Water resources carrying capacity was evaluated by using fuzzy comprehensive evaluation method after the evaluation index system was constructed according to water resources condition, socio-economic development level and economic structure characteristics in Heifei City. The results showed that development and utilization degree of water resources was high and further development and utilization potential was small. The water resources development potential of city proper was the minimum in all regions and WRCC of it was saturated. The development and utilization degree of water resources in Feixi County was smaller than other districts, there were certain development potential. On this basis, some suggestions and measures were proposed for improve regional water resources carrying capacity and ensure regional sustainable development.

It is of great significance to establish a scientific and reasonable water resources carrying capacity evaluation system and evaluation method on the basis of studying the interdependence and mutual relations of water resources, society, economy and the ecological environment. This can guide water resources utilization and economic and social development planning, and promote the sustainable development of water resources and the socio-economic system. Projection pursuit technology can achieve automatic index selection and index weight confirmation. When used to assess water resources carrying capacity, the subjectivity and uncertainty of index weights can be avoided. Meanwhile, it can also be used to optimize the index system, and can improve the accuracy of evaluation results and discrimination. In this paper, the projection pursuit grade model of water resources carrying capacity is established. The evaluation criteria are determined by combining the theory with practice. Grades I to IV indicate that the water resources capacity declines gradually. This is the first study of water resources carrying capacity in four municipalities in China. The results show that the water resources carrying capacity of the four municipalities in 2012 belong to the third level, Chongqing is close to the second level and Tianjin is close to the fourth level.

China is a water resource-poor country, in recent years, rapid population growth resulting in water issues have become increasingly prominent. Taking Anhui Province as an example, using fuzzy synthetic evaluation method and combining the analytic hierarchy process evaluation analysis of water resources carrying capacity. Firstly, establishing the evaluation criteria of the index system of regional water resources carrying capacity and individual indicators, calculating evaluation index weight, establishing the weight fuzzy matrix, using Vague set and analytic hierarchy process method to determine the weight vector.Secondly, compositing a fuzzy matrix of weight values after obtaining the value of the weights of the various indicators, calculating the degree of membership, establishing the fuzzy relation matrix, fuzzy subset into a comprehensive evaluation model, and seeking the comprehensive evaluation value .Finally, determining the level of sustainable use of water resources in the specific area based on the principle of maximum degree of membership . After the evaluation are analyzed and compared in order to elaborate the evaluation method is feasible and effective.

Abstract. Water resources are not only basic natural resources, but also strategic economic resources and ecological control factors. Water resources carrying capacity constrains the sustainable development of regional economy and society. Studies of water resources carrying capacity can provide helpful information about how the socioeconomic system is both supported and restrained by the water resources system. Based on the research of different scholars, major problems in the study of water resources carrying capacity were summarized as follows: the definition of water resources carrying capacity is not yet unified; the methods of carrying capacity quantification based on the definition of inconsistency are poor in operability; the current quantitative research methods of water resources carrying capacity did not fully reflect the principles of sustainable development; it is difficult to quantify the relationship among the water resources, economic society and ecological environment. Therefore, it is necessary to develop a better quantitative evaluation method to determine the regional water resources carrying capacity. This paper proposes a new approach to quantifying water resources carrying capacity (that is, through the compilation of the water resources balance sheet) to get a grasp of the regional water resources depletion and water environmental degradation (as well as regional water resources stock assets and liabilities), figure out the squeeze of socioeconomic activities on the environment, and discuss the quantitative calculation methods and technical route of water resources carrying capacity which are able to embody the substance of sustainable development.

The carrying capacity of water resources is one of the focuses in water resources research, and it has an important significance in measuring the effects of water resources on regional development. Wuhan City is selected as an example in this study. Eight indexes are selected to assess the carrying capacity of water resources in Wuhan City in recent three years based on the fuzzy comprehensive evaluation method. The results show that the degree of exploitation and utilization of water resources is relative high, and the potential of carrying capacity is relatively small. In addition, the contradiction between supply and demand of water resources is outstanding, and it tends to overload. The fundamental measures are put forward to improve water resources carrying capacity such as improving the utilization efficiency of water resources and enhancing the capacity of water saving from the perspective of promoting economic and social development

Based on the situation of Guiyang’s water resources, society, economy, ecology, etc., a comprehensive evaluation index system of Guiyang’s water resources carrying capacity is established by selecting appropriate indexes. Based on the analytic hierarchy process (AHP) and the entropy method, an evaluation model of Guiyang’s water resources carrying capacity is constructed. The results showed that the comprehensive evaluation value of water resources carrying capacity in Guiyang City increased by nearly 53% from 2009 to 2018, and the regulation and control force of water resources carrying capacity and water resources carrying pressure showed an upward trend. Within ten years, the total comprehensive evaluation value of Guiyang is 0.4503—close to H2 level—and the membership degree of evaluation results over the years to H2 is greater than that of H1 and H3.H1, H2, and H3 are the three standard grades of water resources carrying capacity index, and the degree of carrying capacity represented is decreasing in turn. This indicated that at this stage, water resources can maintain the rapid development of the social economy, and that there is still some development potential. The research results have certain reference value for Guiyang’s development and utilization of water resources.

The protection of a water resource’s ecological environment is one of the most important tasks in the watershed in China. The evaluation of water resources carrying capacity (WRCC) is the foundation for the suitability of territorial space development. It is necessary to further analyze the weaknesses of the coordinated development of various dimensions of WRCC and explore the basis of territorial space development and optimization. This paper considers Chinese unique policy tasks, namely, “three water management together”, the types of main function areas, “red lines” control, and national spatial suitability evaluation, to construct the evaluation index system of WRCC. Monomial evaluation, integrated evaluation, and coupling coordination analysis methods are used separately to evaluate the carrying index, comprehensive carrying index, and coupling coordination degree of WRCC in the Qingjiang River Basin. The results show that: (1) As far as monomial evaluation is concerned, water resource supplies are often overloaded on the overall economy, industrial, and agricultural development; (2) The comprehensive indices of WRCC of the counties in the southwest are obviously better than that of the counties in the northeast; (3) The degree of coupling coordination of WRCC in the Qingjiang River Basin is not high, and is essentially in the primary or barely coordinated level; (4) the short board of WRCC in the Qingjiang River Basin presents obvious spatial characteristics, which from west to east are water environment, water resources and water ecology lagging, respectively. This paper measures WRCC for industry, agriculture, life, and ecology, which is helpful in promoting the suitability evaluation of land space development. Meanwhile, the case study of the Qingjiang River Basin provides reference for other regions to implement the “double evaluation”.
