The airborne bearing-only passive target localization performance is relevant with the specific filter and maneuver model. This paper presents a combination of Unscented Kalman Filtering (UKF) with control inputs and optimal route planning algorithm to improve the performance. Taking the minimum trace of unbiased UKF estimation covariance matrix as criteria, single-step heading traverse method is applied to reach every optimal solution. A single flight path simulation and Monte Carlo analysis validate that the optimal strategy can improve both the convergence and localization accuracy.

In this paper, the route-planning problems of Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) in uncertain and adversarial environment are addressed, including not only single-mission route planning in known a priori environment, but also the route replanning in partially known and mission-changeable environments. A mission-adaptable hybrid route-planning algorithm based on flight roadmap is proposed, which combines existing global and local methods (Dijkstra algorithm, SAS and D*) into a two-level framework. The environment information and constraints for UAV are integrated into the procedure of building flight roadmap and searching for routes. The route-planning algorithm utilizes domain-specific knowledge and operates in real time with near-optimal solution quality, which is important to uncertain and adversarial environment. Other planners do not provide all of the functionality, namely real-time planning and replanning, near-optimal solution quality, and the ability to model complex 3D constraints.

The target localization algorithm is critical in the field of wireless sensor networks (WSNs) and is widely used in many applications. In the conventional localization method, the location distribution of the anchor nodes is fixed and cannot be adjusted dynamically according to the deployment environment. The resulting localization accuracy is not high, and the localization algorithm is not applicable to three-dimensional (3D) conditions. Therefore, a Delaunay-triangulation-based WSN localization method, which can be adapted to two-dimensional (2D) and 3D conditions, was proposed. Based on the location of the target node, we searched for the triangle or tetrahedron surrounding the target node and designed the localization algorithm in stages to accurately calculate the coordinate value of the target. The relationship between the number of target nodes and the number of generated graphs was analysed through numerous experiments, and the proposed 2D localization algorithm was verified by extending it the 3D coordinate system. Experimental results revealed that the proposed algorithm can effectively improve the flexibility of the anchor node layout and target localization accuracy.

An efficient path planning approach in mobile beacon localization for the randomly deployed wireless sensor nodes is proposed in this paper. Firstly, in order to improve localization accuracy, the weighting function based on the distance between nodes is constructed. Moreover, an iterative multilateration algorithm is also presented to avoid decreasing the localization accuracy. Furthermore, a path planning algorithm based on grid scan which can traverse entirely in sensor field is described. At the same time, the start conditions of localization algorithm are also proposed to improve localization accuracy. To evaluate the proposed path planning algorithm, the localization results of beacon nodes randomly deployed in sensor field are also provided. The proposed approach can provide the deployment uniformly of virtual beacon nodes among the sensor fields and the lower computational complexity of path planning compared with method which utilizes only mobile beacons on the basis of a random movement. The performance evaluation shows that the proposed approach can reduce the beacon movement distance and the number of virtual mobile beacon nodes by comparison with other methods.

The majority of services that deliver personalized content in smart buildings require accurate localization of their clients. This article presents an analysis of the localization accuracy using Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) beacons. The aim is to present an approach to create accurate Indoor Positioning Systems (IPS) using algorithms that can be implemented in real time on platforms with low computing power. Parameters on which the localization accuracy mostly depends are analyzed: localization algorithm, beacons’ density, deployment strategy, and noise in the BLE channels. An adaptive algorithm for pre-processing the signals from the beacons is proposed, which aims to reduce noise in beacon’s data and to capture visitor’s dynamics. The accuracy of five range-based localization algorithms in different use case scenarios is analyzed. Three of these algorithms are specially designed to be less sensitive to noise in radio channels and require little computing power. Experiments conducted in a simulated and real environment show that using proposed algorithms the localization accuracy less than 1 m can be obtained.

Noncircular signals are widely used in the area of radar, sonar, and wireless communication array systems, which can offer more accurate estimates and detect more sources. In this paper, the noncircular signals are employed to improve source localization accuracy and identifiability. Firstly, an extended real-valued covariance matrix is constructed to transform complex-valued computation into real-valued computation. Based on the property of noncircular signals and symmetric uniform linear array (SULA) which consist of dual-polarization sensors, the array steering vectors can be separated into the source position parameters and the nuisance parameter. Therefore, the rank reduction (RARE) estimators are adopted to estimate the source localization parameters in sequence. By utilizing polarization information of sources and real-valued computation, the maximum number of resolvable sources, estimation accuracy, and resolution can be improved. Numerical simulations demonstrate that the proposed method outperforms the existing methods in both resolution and estimation accuracy.

Aiming at improving localization accuracy in Wireless Sensor Networks (WSN) based on Least Square Support Vector Regression (LSSVR), making LSSVR localization method more practicable, the mechanism of effects of the kernel function for target localization based on LSSVR is discussed based on the mathematical solution process of LSSVR localization method. A novel method of modeling parameters optimization for LSSVR model using particle swarm optimization is proposed. Construction method of fitness function for modeling parameters optimization is researched. In addition, the characteristics of particle swarm parameters optimization are analyzed. The computational complexity of parameters optimization is taken into consideration comprehensively. Experiments of target localization based on CC2430 show that localization accuracy using LSSVR method with modeling parameters optimization increased by 23%~36% in compare with the maximum likelihood method(MLE) and the localization error is close to the minimum with different LSSVR modeling parameters. Experimental results show that adapting a reasonable fitness function for modeling parameters optimization using particle swarm optimization could enhance the anti-noise ability significantly and improve the LSSVR localization performance.

This paper establishes a 3-D localization model and based on this model, it proposes a collaborative localization framework. In this framework, node that observes the object sends its attitude information and the relative position of the object's projection in its camera to the cluster head. The cluster head adopts an algorithm proposed in this paper to select some nodes to participate localization. The localization algorithm is based on least square method. Because the localization framework is based on a 3-D model, the size of the object or other prerequisites is not necessary. At the end of this paper, a simulation is taken on the numbers of nodes selected to locate and the localization accuracy. The result implies that selecting 3~4 nodes is proper. The theoretical analysis and the simulation result also imply that a const computation time cost is paid in this framework with a high localization accuracy (in our simulation environment, a 0.01 meter error).
