In the printing industry, where production never stops, it is very important to continuously maintain machine performance. If a machine breaks down, the production will stop and it will disturb the production process. Therefore, the maintenance system must be managed efficiently to solve those problems. The paper presents the study results on continuous quality improvement of offset printing using preventive maintenance features. Offset printing is a process that involves a multitude of variables, independent and interdependent factors. The offset printing process was analyzed and the factors that have a significant influence on the quality of the process and the products made were identified. The defects that may occur during the printing process and the causes thereof have also been identified and the types of non-conformities of the end products were estabilished. The experimental method was used. The case study was conducted on Manroland 508. For the planning of preventive maintenance activities, the duration of the maintenance works necessary to ensure the proper functioning of the offset printing machines was established. Finally, maintenance activities that would guarantee and continuously improve the quality of the printing processes and the printed products were issued.

The phenomenon of the poor quality of parental care for children with disabilities makes resilience one of the psychological capital that contributes to improving the quality of care. This study describes how through a muhasabah intervention in Blimbingrejo Village, Nalumsari District, Jepara Regency. The purpose of this study was to provide information for parents of children with special needs about muhasabah interventions in developing the resilience abilities of parents when carrying out their care. The urgency of this research is to reduce parenting stress experienced by parents because of the developmental barriers of their children. This research is qualitative with a case study approach through in-depth interviews and observation techniques. The study results explain that the condition of children with special needs is often a stressor for their parents. However, parents can live with complete steadfastness as a form of their resilience. The pattern of resilience formed is supported mainly by thinking about what they are trying to do. There are indications of the meaning of resilience factors in the practice of muhasabah in the form of the ability to regulate emotions, develop optimism and empathy, control impulses and causal analysis, good self-efficacy and take wisdom as an indication of aspects of the reaching out process. The results of this study are helpful information in developing the concept and practice of caring for children with special needs.

This paper presents the study results regarding the analysis of the screen printing quality on different types of materials. The quality of the screen printing is determined by several particularities of the screen printing process such as: the type of mesh, screen ruling, ink viscosity, raster spacing, etc. The material which is supposed to be printed is as important as the particularities of the screen printing process itself. The composition, structure and features of the printed items as well as the composition, viscosity and other ink properties, all together determine the quality of the screen printed matter.

The In-Mold Roller is a revolutionary printing process by which objects are 3D decorated. The products decorated by In-Mold Roller are protected from water and fading. These kinds of decorations strongly increase the beauty, desirability and value of the objects. The In-Mold Roller is now using either of gravure printing and screen printing to print PET film. However, there are some problems with these two techniques. This research is to investigate the potential use of combining In-Mold Roller with digital inkjet printing in 3D decoration, e.g. in personalized printing services. The study results found show that digital inkjet printing to the PET film and then transfer to the ABS, the solid ink densities (SIDs) of primaries would increase. The tone values increases (TVIs) from highlight and middle (around 0~60%) were generally higher than those in shadows. The shapes and sizes of color gamut were also varied according to different kinds of digital UV inkjet printing processes. Moreover, after transferred, the color gamut became smaller.


The quality parameters of printed sheets should be controlled constantly during the sheet-fed offset printing process. This allows the detection of any problems in the initial stages of the printing process. The final control of the quality of printing sheets will eliminate error products before delivering to the costumers. The results of this control should be analyzed continuously. The total quality management (TQM) is an effective method in controlling, doing statistics, and assessing the errors in the offset printing process. Simultaneously, this method delivers the main errors frequently occurred in the printing process. This paper presents the possibility of using some tools of the TQM method such as Pareto chart, Ishikawa diagram, and 5xWhy to analyze and assess the quality of printing sheets in sheet-fed offset printing. The studied results show that the two main errors of the printed sheets are hickeys (occupied 29 %) and low density (occupied 17%). Moreover, the causes of hickey error are analyzed and shown in this paper.

This empirical investigation was aimed to determine the pattern of the  relationships between the perceived presence of quality of worklife (QWL) factors and organizational commitment using samples from professional engineers in Malaysia. Engineers in private sector were selected to participate in this study. A total of 250 sets of questionnaires were sent to the selected organizations, and 152 useable questionnaire representing a response rate of 60.8% were used for statistical analysis. A QWL measure consisting of seven factors: growth and development, participation, physical environment, supervision, pay and benefit, social relevance, and workplace integration was developed based on Walton’s (1974) conception. The three-component model and measure of organizational commitment developed by Allen and Meyer (1990) was adopted in this study. Results of regression analysis indicated that only two QWL factors, growth and development and pay and benefit, were significant in explaining organizational commitment. Implication and suggestions for further research are also discussed.

Purpose – Given the importance of quality assurance and enhancement of curriculum in a higher education institution, it is vital to have a systematic process to measure students’ performance objectively and effectively for continuous improvement in the programme/curriculum. The purpose of this study is to analyse the process of setting up an Outcome-Based Education (OBE) system in a business school of a private higher education institution in Malaysia. The importance and challenges of the OBE system are discussed, while some recommendations for common issues are suggested. Methodology – Document analyses and observations were conducted on ten undergraduate programmes in the business school of a private higher education institution, from 2015 to 2019. These mechanisms are to assess and discuss the processes needed in implementing OBE; while the importance and challenges of having an OBE system in the business school are included. Findings – To have a smooth-running process of implementing an OBE system, proper planning needs to be in place. Data from the OBE system and its utilisation are essential to ensure continuous quality improvement to the curriculum and to give assurance to relevant stakeholders about the quality of graduates. There are several steps that are discussed in this paper to give pointers and guidance to other education institutions in setting up of the OBE process. However, it is undeniable that investment of time and effort is needed to ensure the smooth-running of the OBE establishment and maintenance. Significance – This study is essential to provide a guideline to relevant parties in setting up an OBE system in education institutions. An OBE system is needed to measure students’ performance objectively and effectively while enriching students’ learning experiences. This study will give pointers to the management of the education institution, policy makers, accrediting bodies and academics on implementing an OBE system in the education institutions.

Purpose This paper aims to know how university’s strategic managers, from botacademic and administrative systems, perceive the relationship between sustainability and accreditation as sustainability incorporation and the quality of their processes are amongst the actual challenges of universities. Design/methodology/approach This paper opted for an inductive, exploratory study using the case study approach, including 19 in-depth interviews to administrative and academic managers in a private, high-quality certified university in Colombia. The data were assessed using the content analysis methodology. The Colombian accreditation guidelines were the base to analyse the data as accreditation is part of the quality assurance system. Findings This paper provides empirical insights into how the implementation of sustainability in universities relates to the Colombian accreditation factors. The main links found were in the areas of the university’s social impact and organisational responsibility, which are highly relevant to graduates, external stakeholders and sustainability skills. Sustainable campus operation was associated with environmental management and improvement of the quality of the physical plant, with social and economic benefits in the long-term. Additionally, this research found a need for administrative and academic managers to understand and increase their commitment to sustainability. Research limitations/implications Because it was a case study, results are not generalisable. Consequently, further research on similar lines is required to universalise the mentioned observation and results. Practical implications The accreditation factors related to sustainability, inductively defined and exposed in this paper, provide an idea of how sustainability implementation could contribute to higher education quality assurance. Originality/value This paper contributes to filling the knowledge gap about embedding sustainability in Latin-American universities. This paper postulates a starting point considering accreditation standards and the link of the strategic manager’s perceptions of sustainability.

Abstract This review article is a summary of the current knowledge in the field of colorants in printing applications. Printing inks belong as well as paints, coatings, plastics, and cosmetic formulations to the most important application systems for colorants, both for pigments and dyes. Colorants have to meet increasing demands in printing applications due to the considerable number of printing methods and consequently of a large number of specific printing formulations. Crucial factors besides the specific properties of a certain printing ink are the processing method and the required quality of the final printed product. Amongst the most important printing methods are letterpress printing, offset printing, flexographic printing, gravure printing, screen printing, and digital printing. Different processing methods are used for coloring of the individual printing inks. The coloring processes need to be coordinated in accordance with the steps of the printing processes leading to the final product.

Technologies have dramatically transformed tourist experience. However, research has largely focused on traveler attitudes and technology adoption rather than their experience with travel technologies. Taking a cross-country perspective, this study examines the role of technology readiness (TR) as a personality trait in shaping travelers’ satisfaction with travel technologies, using airlines as a case study. Results of an online survey of travelers in Australia, China, and the United States revealed the moderating effects of the TR dimensions of optimism and innovativeness as well as country of residence on the relationships between perceived quality of technology-enabled services (TESs), satisfaction with TESs, overall satisfaction, and future behavior. These relationships were stronger among travelers with higher TR and varied across countries. The results suggest that tourism and hospitality service providers should incorporate measures of traveler TR and TESs’ performance into their customer-experience monitoring system.

The focus of this study is to carry out a maintenance and availability study of a manufacturing company using a flour mill company as a case study. To properly evaluate the maintenance activities of the company, some sets of performance ratios were used. The performance ratios used in the assessment include; equipment availability, maintenance to production ratio, equipment shutdown intensity, overall equipment effectiveness. The result obtained showed that equipment availability was 93.7%, 93.38%, 93.18%, 92.42%, 91.28%, for year 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009 and 2010 respectively. Maintenance to production ratio was 0.03, 0.04, 0.04, 0.05, and 0.06 for year 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009 and 2010 respectively. Intensity of shutdown ranged from 0.07, 0.7, 0.07, 0.08, and 0.10 for year 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009 and 2010 respectively. Overall equipment effectiveness was 86.30%, 85.10%, 84.92%, 83.33%, 81.40% for year 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009 and 2010 respectively. Comparing the results obtained, revealed the following; the availability of the mill declined with age, from 93.7% in 2006 to 91.28% in 2010. The proportion of time spent on maintenance as against production was on the increase from 0.03 in 2006 to 0.06 in 2010. The intensity of shutdown of the mill increased by the years from 0.07 in 2006 to 0.10 in 2010. The overall equipment effectiveness of the mill was unsatisfactory from the year when optimal replacement was supposed to have been done (year 2009), according to existing standards. OEE was 83.33% in 2009 and 81.40% in 2010. Further study also revealed that an average of 244 million was lost annually due to down time. For optimal availability, the most effective maintenance strategy needs to be adopted and preventive maintenance is recommended.
