This study used social media posts of the related effect of earthquakes to derive seismic shake scale distributions in regions of Taiwan and compared it with the regional seismic scale reported by the Central Weather Bureau (CWB) of Taiwan. This study conducted a context searching to scrawl the relationship phrase on the social media network platform, PTT bulletin board system (BBS), to detect the earthquake shake scale using the keywords of the context. In this investigation a decision tree model for analyzing the semantic words from the context of the target event to detect the earthquake shake scale was devised. The results indicate that we can pick out the keywords to use to detect the earthquake shake scale at about 85%. Furthermore, the results of the derived shake scale show that the four studied cases are in a good agreement with the presented news from the CWB of Taiwan. In this study, the author attempted to develop a quick earthquake shake scale detection model by semantic analysis of the collected earthquake disaster information reported on the social media network platform.

An Information Network is the network formed by the interconnectivity of the objects formed due to the interaction between them. In our day-to-day life we can find these information networks like the social media network, the network formed by the interaction of web objects etc. This paper presents a survey of various Data Mining techniques that can be applicable to information networks. The Data Mining techniques of both homogeneous and heterogeneous information networks are discussed in detail and a comparative study on each problem category is showcased.

We live in a virtual world where actual lifestyles are replicated. The growing reliance on the use of social media networks worldwide has resulted in great concern for information security. One of the factors popularizing the social media platforms is how they connect people worldwide to interact, share content, and engage in mutual interactions of common interest that cut across geographical boundaries. Behind all these incredible gains are digital crime equivalence that threatens the physical socialization. Criminal minded elements and hackers are exploiting social media platforms (SMP) for many nefarious activities to harm others. As detection tools are developed to control these crimes so also hackers’ tactics and techniques are constantly evolving. Hackers are constantly developing new attacking tools and hacking strategies to gain malicious access to systems and attack social media network thereby making it difficult for security administrators and organizations to develop and implement the proper policies and procedures necessary to prevent the hackers’ attacks. The increase in cyber-attacks on the social media platforms calls for urgent and more intelligent security measures to enhance the effectiveness of social media platforms. This paper explores the mode and tactics of hackers’ mode of attacks on social media and ways of preventing their activities against users to ensure secure social cyberspace and enhance virtual socialization. Social media platforms are briefly categorized, the various types of attacks are also highlighted with current state-of-the-art preventive mechanisms to overcome the attacks as proposed in research works, finally, social media intrusion detection mechanism is suggested as a second line of defense to combat cybercrime on social media networks.

Rare diseases are characterized by their low prevalence in a population, and since 1980 a social movement has gathered around this cause in many countries. In Brazil, the category of rare diseases emerged in 2000, culminating with the enactment of a National Policy geared at rare diseases. Rare disease patient organizations are the main actors of this social movement and since this is very recent in Brazil, this research was conducted to explore the topic. Using netnography as method, a content analysis of the Social Media Network Facebook was performed, aiming at understanding the way social movements have assembled around rare diseases and its role in portraying this type of diseases in Brazil. This chapter offers important insights into the way patient organizations are using social media to convey ideas and discourses, and to foster lay expertise on rare diseases.

Millions of people use online social networking sites such as Facebook, Twitter, WhatsApp, Instagram etc. Nowadays, social media is very popular among all of us especially young generation and has become a vital part of our life. Just like a graph is made up of vertices and edges , a social media network is made up of persons or communities where each person or community represents the vertex of the social graph and the adjacency of the vertices ( edges ) is determined via friendship, common interest, common liking etc. In this paper we try to show the use of some graphical parameter in social graph so that the many properties of social media network can be reflected through graph. We have also shown how domination number plays an important role in social graph.

The financial services industry is changing rapidly as a result of advances in information technology, telecommunications and the Internet. The gait of innovation in the Social media, the payment system is staggering. The biggest social media sites are Facebook, massive and used by almost everyone, Twitter, the micro-blogging, and LinkedIn, the online professional networking site. By using the social media connections as a method to exchange the funds, we can integrate our use of mobile wallets, PayPal, etc. to our social media sites. Believing on daily deal platforms, none of the current daily deal platforms can compete with the granularity and relevance with which banks could target a deal to a specific subscriber, having access to their extensive spending history and preferences. A feedback loop extending from the Bank to the merchants enabling the creation of accurate list of customers who consistently spend in specific retail categories can help merchants in delivering targeted offers to attract new customers.

With the increasing development of social communication on social media networks, new linguistic forms have emerged thanks to the technological devices offered by digital platforms, which can be regarded as open spaces characterised by hypertextuality and polysemioticity. This research aims to analyse the typical features of the social media Twitter which is largely used by news media professionals and by political leaders for their official communication. As a sociotechnical digital communication platform, Twitter proves to be the most appropriate broadcast medium for live news since it tends to reduce social and geographical distances between Twitter users who can interact with each other by sending informal messages. Eventually, Twitter can often be viewed as the first social media network allowing transmedial quotations that circulate on other social networks.
