Abstract This chapter explores the role of Africa's universities in facilitating the proliferation and success of entrepreneurship as a development strategy. In particular, the discussion is intended to articulate how Africa's universities can support the generation of much-needed employment opportunities by providing education and training in entrepreneurship. The chapter first examines the prevailing entrepreneurial ecosystem, (i) by providing context from the available literature on the demographic challenge Africa faces in light of its rapidly-growing youth population and associated high unemployment rates and (ii) by exploring the means by which entrepreneurship can be fostered. Thereafter, the chapter focuses on working models of education and training in entrepreneurship, including intentions and adaptations, real-world successes, lessons learned and potential future directions.

The project sought to look into the role of the Community vocational training centers in the wider socio-economic empowerment of women. It aimed to find out the effects of skills training on social-economic empowerment of women, examine the impact of Technical and Vocational Education and Training on social-economic empowerment of women and explore ways of improving the performance of Technical and Vocational Education and Training on social-economic empowerment of women. The study adopted a quantitative descriptive and explanatory design. This way the detailed description comes before the final explanation. The study primarily depended on questionnaires to get study data. Findings indicate that indeed vocational training can enable women to create employment opportunities and give them access to the job market. The findings identified equal pay, access to education (including vocational training), Gender equality in the workplace, respect for human rights and non-discrimination, and gender-sensitive recruitment as factors that TVETs use to reduce discrimination and improve women’s quality of life. Vocational training centers are still subject to negative perceptions where people think that they are “lesser” institutions. The vocational centers need to shed the label that they are for failures, that they are lesser institutions, and that they are not prestigious enough. Improvement can also come through advocacy. Overall, the study ascertained that vocational training provides positive outcomes especially in the lives of women and girls. They get to enjoy increased wages, employment mobility, employment opportunities, entrepreneurship and social transformation. Therefore, there should be an increase in the number of vocational centers.

Objective: To poll members of the Pharmacy Technician Educators Council (PTEC) to determine their attitudes toward the level of education and training necessary for pharmacy technicians to perform current and expanded duties. Methods: A convenience survey was developed and sent to 130 PTEC member training programs. PTEC members include directors of college, vocational, and on-the-job training programs. Results: Thirty-seven PTEC members responded, yielding a response rate of 28.5%. Responses reflected the opinions of directors of pharmacy technician programs from 19 states. All respondents agreed that the length of training for pharmacy technicians should be standardized. They also agreed that minimum competencies should be established for pharmacy technicians and that examination should be required to obtain certification or licensure that would then enable the technician to be employed in the field. Conclusions: The use of pharmacy technicians will likely increase, as will the duties pharmacy technicians perform. Expansion of the role of pharmacy technicians, however, must be in tandem with standardizing training and establishment of competencies for pharmacy technicians. Increased responsibilities should be commensurate with increased education and national examination should be required to determine competency.
