Objective
To examine whether characteristics of workplace psychosocial resources are associated with the risk of type 2 diabetes among employees.

Research Design and Methods

Participants were 49,835 employees (77% women, aged 40-65 and diabetes-free at baseline) from the Finnish Public Sector cohort study. Characteristics of horizontal (culture of collaboration and support from colleagues) and vertical (leadership quality and organizational procedural justice) psychosocial resources were self-reported. Incident type 2 diabetes (n=2148) was ascertained via linkage to electronic health records from national registers. We used latent-class modeling to assess the clustering of resource characteristics. Cox proportional hazard models were used to examine the association between the identified clusters and risk of type 2 diabetes during 10.9 years of follow-up, adjusting for age, sex, marital status, educational level, type of employment contract, comorbidity and diagnosed mental disorders.

Results

We identified four patterns of workplace psychosocial resources: ‘unfavorable’; ‘favorable vertical’; ‘favorable horizontal’; and ‘favorable vertical and horizontal.’ Compared with the ‘unfavorable’, ‘favorable vertical’ (HR=0.87 95%CI 0.78;0.97), ‘favorable horizontal’ (HR=0.77 95%CI 0.67;0.88), and ‘favorable vertical and horizontal’ (HR=0.77 95%CI 0.68;0.86) resources were associated with a lower risk of type 2 diabetes, with the strongest associations seen in employees at age 55 or older (Pinteraction=0.03). These associations were robust to multivariable adjustments and were not explained by reverse causation.

Conclusions

Employees working in a favorable level of culture of collaboration, support from colleagues, leadership quality, and organizational procedural justice have a lower risk of developing type 2 diabetes than those without such favorable workplace psychosocial resources.

Listening is associated with and a likely cause of desired organizational outcomes in numerous areas, including job performance, leadership, quality of relationships (e.g., trust), job knowledge, job attitudes, and well-being. To advance understanding of the powerful effects of listening on organizational outcomes, we review the construct of listening, its measurement and experimental manipulations, and its outcomes, antecedents, and moderators. We suggest that listening is a dyadic phenomenon that benefits both the listener and the speaker, including supervisor-subordinate and salesperson-customer dyads. To explain previous findings and generate novel and testable hypotheses, we propose the episodic listening theory: listening can lead to a fleeting state of togetherness, in which dyad members undergo a mutual creative thought process. This process yields clarity, facilitates the generation of novel plans, increases well-being, and strengthens attachment to the conversation partner. This study examined social network trends in improving educational leadership quality and higher learning outcomes through systematic data analysis. Forward or backwards, the quality of human resources and scholarly output in the academic environment is closely related to social networking, which is increasingly becoming a phenomenon today. The researcher has carried out a series of data collection through electronic searches in several international publications in various scientific communication contexts to understand this. Furthermore, the analysis process includes understanding the study questions, coding, analysis, and in-depth interpretation to obtain valid and reliable study findings that answer this study's questions. Our e-search, especially on the Google Scholar data source, ERIC publications, and other online data sources from the 2010 to 2021 publications, was prioritized. Based on the discussion of results and observations of current social networking trends, it can be concluded that social networking brings benefits such as building social relationships, communication, keeping up with renewal, more personal relationships, more genuine connections, advertising, and other networking among educational leaders worldwide.

Chronic absenteeism is associated with poor health and educational outcomes. School nurses have great potential to address the health and educational needs that contribute to absenteeism. Through qualitative analysis of interviews with school nurses, we characterize their current role in reducing absenteeism and identify barriers 3 that limit their capacity to meet this goal, organized by the Framework for 21st Century School Nursing Practice. Interviewees ( n = 23) identified actions perceived to reduce absenteeism aligned with domains of care coordination, leadership, quality improvement, and community and public health. Barriers perceived to limit the capacity of school nurses to address absenteeism were identified within these domains and ranged from student- and family-level to federal-level barriers. Specific healthcare system-level barriers included insufficient communication with community-based healthcare teams and the need for coordinated approaches across health and education sectors to address absenteeism. Strategic opportunities exist to address barriers to comprehensive school nursing practice and reduce absenteeism.

Currently, there is a dearth of research, examining how project managers' leadership styles influence the performance of construction company workers in Cape Town. Other research has discussed this subject on a national or international level. Still, comprehensive data on Cape Town construction firms is lacking. This has prevented local enterprises from understanding the role of their project managers’ leadership styles on employee performance outcomes. This article sought to ascertain how leadership styles influence employee performance in construction firms and to develop a conceptual framework for improving leadership and performance. Through quantitative techniques, 456 questionnaires were distributed at construction sites across Cape Town. Responses were then analysed using an ANOVA test (with the descriptive and regressive methods) and a post-hoc test (using the Bonferroni Method) and correlation analysis. The results reveal a statistically significant positive relationship between project managers’ leadership styles and the performance of subordinate employees. These findings have subsequently been used to develop a conceptual framework of leadership quality development tools, including training, empowerment, coaching, participation, and delegation. The research contributes to new knowledge that will promote local project managers’ leadership development, improve employee performance, and in doing so, increase successful project outcomes across the city.
