Nanocomposites are nanometrical material particles embedded in a specific matrix. The degree of organization of the nanostructures and their properties depend on the nature of the organic and inorganic components of the structure that can generate synergic interactions. Polymeric nanocomposites are related to a class of hybrid materials where inorganic substances of nanometric dimensions are dispersed in a polymeric matrix. In the present work, nanocomposites of nylon 6,12 with different concentrations of pseudoboehmite obtained by sol-gel process were prepared with and without the presence of octadecylamine. After preparation, the samples were irradiated with a 200 kGy radiation dose in an electron accelerator. The pseudoboehmite nano particles were characterized by X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, differential thermal analysis and thermo gravimetric analysis. The nanocomposites were characterized by thermal and mechanical tests. The addition of pseudoboehmite promoted a reduction of the melting flow during the production of the composites evidencing the interaction of pseudoboehmite with the polymeric matrix, probably modifying its crystalline structure.

In the present study, the synthesis of nano structured materials such as nano alumina (Al2O3), nano silica (SiO2), and nano hydroxyapatite (HAp) have been discussed for industrial applications. The oxide nano materials are prepared employing chemical methods from natural resources. The HAp is prepared employing sol-gel process using chemical precursors. The synthesised nano alumina (Al2O3) powder has been used to improve the physicochemical properties of refractories. The prepared nano particles employing different process techniques have been characterized using XRD, FTIR, EDAX and SEM studies. The silica nano particles have been coated on textiles to get the wrinkle free/antibacterial textile cloths/products. The synthesized nanoparticles from natural resources have been used in various industrial applications such as refractories, textiles and biomedical field.

Polyimide (PI)-based nanocomposites were prepared by the in-situ generation of organic silica nano-particles through a sol-gel process, combined with spin coating and multi-step curing process. In this study, silica nano-particles were introduced into the PI matrix to promote its thermal properties. Nanometer-scale composites were successfully obtained from poly(amic acid) (PAA) mixture loaded with silica. 3,3’,4,4’- Biphenyl tetracarboxylic dianhydride (BPDA) and p-phenylenediamine (p-PDA) were employed to synthesize the PAA precursor. The hybrid thin film was prepared from aminoalkoxysilane-capped PAA and tetraethoxysilane (TEOS). In this work, we investigated the effect of coupling agent, 3-aminopropyltriethoxysilane (APrTEOS). The TGA results indicate that the thermal stability of the nanocomposites can be enhanced as silica content increases. Without the incorporation of APrTEOS, less improvement can be achieved.
