Abstract This paper investigates robust control problem of structural vibrations using shape memory alloy (SMA) wires as actuators. The mathematical model for these SMA actuators is derived with emphasis in model uncertainty. The linearization of the relation between stress and temperature dynamics of SMA actuators is analyzed for active control. To handle the uncertainties caused by the linearization and the neglected high frequency dynamics, optimal H∞ control was employed to design a controller. An example is used to demonstrate the design procedures and the control system is tested in a nonlinear environment.

A kind of hydraulic exciter based on rotary valve control was studied in this paper, the composition of the exciter and its working principle were introduced, and the mathematical model of the system was established. The characters of the system were simulated using MATLAB. From the results of the simulation, we get the relationship of the amplitude of Vibration oil cylinder between the system’s pressure and the exciting frequency. The results can provide theoretical bases to design the hydraulic exciter.

In the paper, for high-power marine overflow valve of low pressure big traffic problems, the design of the inside leaking mouth leaks in parallel structure ,that is suitable for the different oil and water flow, using additional flow beam, guiding type low pressure large flow overflow valve was developed and the experimental study, obtained the dynamic and static parameters of the valve. Invented the inside leaking and leaked mouth parallel connection structure, inside leaking and leaked mouth parallel connection is established the mathematical model of the overflow valve. Results show that compared with the traditional straight moving type overflow valve, the type overflow valve through a larger flow, has better dynamic and static performance and cavitation resistance.

In order to predict pressure transients accompanying cavitation and gas bubbles in hydraulic pipeline operating at low pressure, a mathematical model and a simulation method are studied. The mathematical model is based on the two basic equations of motion and continuity. The growing and collapsing of cavitation and gas bubbles accompanying pressure pulsations are modelled to calculate the volumes of cavitation and gas bubbles. The pipeline dynamic friction model is introduced. Meanwhile, a simulation method, using finite difference method and Matlab/Simulink platform, is developed to handle the prediction of pressure transients. Finally an example of fluid transients inside hydraulic pipeline is simulated after a downstream valve is closed rapidly. Simulation results show that, for a certain example pipeline, the mathematical model can handle the prediction of pressure transients accompanying cavitation and gas bubbles in low pressure pipeline. The use of combining finite difference method with Matlab/Simulink platform provides a relatively simple and effective tool to understand the nature of pressure transients accompanying cavitation and gas bubbles.

The problem of punching tools resistance increasing is investigated. Methods for intermetallic coatings synthesis are investigated. Mathematical model of vacuum ion-plasma deposition process allowing predicting coatings composition basing on intermetallic system Ti-Al was developed. Experimental verification confirmed the adequacy of the computer model. The technology hardening punching tools with wear-resistant coatings deposition based on intermetallic Ti-Al system on pre-nitriding surface in vacuum was developed. Production tests of the hardened punching tools were carried out.

The article describes the application of plasma in the production of industrial pigments. Plasmatrons, or cooled electrodes, have found practical use in chemical, petrochemical, metallurgical, and other industries. Plasma-chemical methods with the use of plasmatrons have found application in the yielding of high-quality pigments, e.g. titanium dioxide. The disadvantage of the application of plasmatrons is the dilution of the outgoing chlorine with inert gases, which reduces the service life of plasmatrons. The disadvantage can be eliminated by substituting high frequency induction plasma with arc plasma.
