This study aims to determine the effect of the generative learning model to improve the mathematical connection of elementary school students. This research was conducted at SDN Tanjungwangi in the 2020/2021 academic year with a research sample of 20 class III A students and 20 class III B students. This research method uses a quasi-experimental method. The data analysis technique in this study uses N-gain calculations to measure the increase in students' mathematical connection abilities, (t-test) to determine the effect of using generative learning models on students' mathematical connection abilities. The results showed that (1) an increase in mathematical connection ability with an average N-gain in the experimental class obtained a result of 0.79 with the criteria "high" and the average N-gain in the control obtained a result of 0.05 with the criteria "very low" . (2) there is an effect of the use of generative models on the ability of mathematical connections with the results of tcount < ttable 0.830 < 2.024. Thus, it can be concluded that there is an influence of the generative learning model on the mathematical connection ability of elementary school students.

AbstractThis study was motivated by the importance of mathematical connection ability for elementary school students. It was necessary to develop an instrument that suitable the indicators of mathematical connection ability to understand the students' mathematical connection ability. The goal of this research was to develop an appropriate mathematical connection ability instrument for primary school students. This study was applied using Research and Development. The participants were 34 third-grade students at an elementary school in Purwakarta, SDN Nagrikaler, chosen through purposive sampling. The instrument was an essay test consisting of six open questions about whole numbers. The indicators developed in composing questions were related to the mathematical connection ability, namely connections inter topics in mathematics, other subjects, and everyday life. The questions were made beforehand in the expert judgment, then tested to see the validity, reliability, difficulty index, and discrimination power index. The validity test analysis indicated that six items on the instrument were valid, the reliability of the test instruments was very high. Meanwhile, the difficulty level was classified as difficult and moderate, and the discrimination power was also categorized as good and very good criteria. Thus, those six developed questions could be applied to measure mathematical connections in the topic of operations of whole numbers for second-grade elementary school students and were suitable for further research instruments on similar subjects and variables even at different times and places. This study aims to determine the effect of the Realistic Mathematics Education (RME) approach and students' initial ability to mathematical connection skills of students in grade III of elementary school. The method used is the experimental method with 2x2 treatment by level design with 30 samples. Data analysis using two-way analysis of variance and followed by the Tukey test for the significance level α = 0.05. Test the normality of the data using the Lilliefors test and homogeneity test using the Bartlett test. The results of the study show that: 1). Mathematical connection skills in students taught by the Realistic Mathematics Education (RME) approach are higher than students taught by conventional approaches. 2). There is an interaction between the use of the learning approach and the students 'initial ability to students' mathematical connection skills. 3).Ability of mathematical connection of elementary school students between students who study using the Realistic Mathematics Education (RME) approach that has a high initial ability higher than students who learn by using a conventional approach that has high initial abilities. 4) The mathematical connection ability of elementary school students between students who study with the Realistic Mathematics Education (RME) approach that has low initial abilities is higher than students who learn with conventional approaches that have low initial abilities.

The ability of mathematical connections possessed by students can be seen from the ability of students to compile math problems. This study aims to determine the type of mathematical connection made by elementary school students in problem-posing activities. The research was conducted using a qualitative descriptive method. The participants were 34 fifth grade students (male =16 female =18) of one of the public elementary schools in Mataram, West Nusa Tenggara. Data were collected from the results of student work and interviews. The analysis was carried out qualitatively according to the indicators of the complexity of the problem through problem posing learning. The results showed that there were four types of mathematical problems and their relatedness that occurred in student problem-posing activities, including (1) unsolvable math problems, (2) incorrectly solved math problems, (3) neglected math problems contextual information, and (4) mathematical problems that have complexity and relevance. Based on these results, it can be recommended for further research to determine strategies to improve students' mathematical connections in problem-posing activities.
