Abstract Abstract. This paper aims at the high efficiency of field balancing for turbo-generator with large capacity currently, and introduces the strategies and key techniques of the rotor system balancing with practical cases of power plant in field. The acquisition, analysis and former processing of the original vibration data for balance calculation are included. Furthermore, they involve complete measuring points and conditions, accurate judgment for the types of unbalance exciting force and selection of stable vibration data, all these could reduce the blindness of balancing effectively. The strategies and techniques also contain the determination for axial plane of unbalance by the modal method, then the optimal steps and the plane of adding weight are chosen during the implementation of balancing. Besides, this paper also introduces the analysis and selection of influence coefficients and the phase of trial weight, these can help determine the final correction weight accurately in order to guarantee the balancing process prompt and efficient. Meanwhile, the restriction of practical location for adding weight and construction period of maintenance and production for the units should be considered during the high efficiency balancing in field. These strategies and techniques of high efficiency balancing have practical application value in promoting the technology of field balancing for turbo- generator units with large capacity.

High Efficiency Deep Grinding (HEDG) has been known to secure high removal rates in grinding processes at high wheel speed, relatively large depth of cut and moderately high work speed. High removal rates in HEDG are associated with very efficient grinding and secure very low specific energy comparable to conventional cutting processes. Though there exist HEDG-enabled machine tools, the wide spread of HEDG has been very limited due to the requirement for the machine tool and process design to ensure workpiece surface integrity. HEDG is an aggressive machining process that requires an adequate selection of grinding parameters in order to be successful within a given machine tool and workpiece configuration. This paper presents progress made in the development of a specialised HEDG machine. Results of HEDG processes obtained from the designed machine tool are presented to illustrate achievable high specific removal rates. Specific grinding energies are shown alongside with measured contact arc temperatures. An enhanced single-pole thermocouple technique was used to measure the actual contact temperatures in deep cutting. The performance of conventional wheels is depicted together with the performance of a CBN wheel obtained from actual industrial tests.

Abstract It is a challenge for the dynamic inspection of railway route for freight car transporting cargo that out-of-gauge. One possible way is using the inspection frame installed in the inspection train to simulate the whole procedure for cargo transportation, which costs a lot of manpower and material resources as well as time. To overcome the above problem, this paper proposes an augmented reality (AR) based dynamic inspection method for visualized railway routing of freight car with out-of-gauge. First, the envelope model of the dynamic moving train with out-of-gauge cargo is generated by using the orbital spectrum of the railway, and the envelope model is matched with a piece of homemade calibration equipment located on the position of the railway that needs to be inspected. Then, the structure from motion (SFM) algorithm is used to reconstruct the environment where the virtual envelope model occludes the buildings or equipment along the railway. Finally, the distance function is adopted to calculate the distance between the obstacle and the envelope of the freight car with out-of-gauge, determining whether the freight car can pass a certain line. The experimental results show that the proposed method performs well for the route selection of out-of-gauge cargo transportation with low cost, high precision, and high efficiency. Moreover, the digital data of the environments along the railway and the envelope of the freight car can be reused, which will increase the digitalization and intelligence for route selection of out-of-gauge cargo transportation.

For the determination of a potential benefit from creation of a distribution centre the paper proposes a method and presents results of calculation of a decrease of total number of rides and total run of automobiles at various variants of goods consolidation. The authors have established a positive influence of the centre on intracity transportation. At the same time, high efficiency of the considered technology can be reached by involvement of a bigger number of consignees and by consolidation of a relatively small number of goods batches in one automobile at efficient routing and correct selection of location of a distribution centre.

A mathematical description for an optimum balance weight search algorithm for single plane multipoint balance is presented. The algorithm uses influence coefficients, either measured or known beforehand, and measured complex vibration data to determine an optimum balance correction weight. The solution minimizes the maximum residual vibration. The algorithm allows user defined balance weights to be analyzed and evaluated. A test case is presented showing actual results and comparison with a least square solution algorithm. An efficient multiplane influence coefficient calculation scheme is also presented.

Abstract It has been established that the studied mode of cultivation of meadow clover under controlled environmental conditions, with continuous illumination with an intensity of 18-20 thousand lux and a constant temperature of + 25 °C, causes significant morphological changes in meadow clover. Compared with the optimal (control), the proposed growing regime halves the development time of plants and by the same amount reduces the severity of morphological traits, while simultaneously causing apical dominance in 54% of plants. Spraying plants with phytohormone in the form of naphthylacetic acid in all studied concentrations reduced the growing season by 4-8 days and increased pollen fertility by 8-10%. The optimal concentration of naphthylacetic acid (NLA) was revealed to suppress the growth of secondary meristems in meadow clover under the conditions of an experimental plant growing regime. The most significant effect on the manifestation of apical dominance was shown by the use of naphthylacetic acid at a concentration of 0.001%. The combined use of the proposed growing regime and treatment with naphthylacetic acid at a concentration of 0.001% increased the yield of plants with apical dominance from 54.5% to 76%. The developed method has shown high efficiency for the creation of tetraploid forms of meadow clover. When growing clover C0 generation and selection of mixoploid plants, the yield of mixoploids increased 5.4 times, the survival rate of seedlings increased by 21%, the time to obtain one generation and the selection of mixoploids decreased by 58%.

Applications of genetic programming (GP) include many areas. However applications of GP in the area of machine condition monitoring and diagnostics is very recent and yet to be fully exploited. In this paper, a study is presented to show the performance of machine fault detection using GP. The time domain vibration signals of a rotating machine with normal and defective gears are processed for feature extraction. The extracted features from original and preprocessed signals are used as inputs to GP for two class (normal or fault) recognition. The number of features and the features are automatically selected in GP maximizing the classification success. The results of fault detection are compared with genetic algorithm (GA) based artificial neural network (ANN)- termed here as GA-ANN. The number of hidden nodes in the ANN and the selection of input features are optimized using GAs. Two different normalization schemes for the features have been used. For each trial, the GP and GA-ANN are trained with a subset of the experimental data for known machine conditions. The trained GP and GA-ANN are tested using the remaining set of data. The procedure is illustrated using the experimental vibration data of a gearbox. The results compare the effectiveness of both types of classifiers with GP and GA based selection of features.

Abstract The index variation form of gear teeth is an important parameter that needs to be considered in analyzing vibrations of gear transmissions. Tests carried out showed the ring gear teeth index variation forms of an epicyclic reducer significantly influenced the vibrations of turbo-generator sets. The proper selection of this form combined with allowable index variation of ring gear teeth resulted in acceptable turbo-generator set vibrations.
