Abstract With the COVID-19 pandemic still causing the world to be quarantined in their house to prevent the spread of the virus, this means online classes are still the main method of conducting classes. This project aims to help lecturers monitor the students during class as they are having problems checking whether the students are paying attention or not. This project uses the student’s facial features to determine their attention level using two different coding algorithm Viola-Jones and Sobel edge. These two algorithms help to determine what kind of facial expression that the students are making. The Viola-Jones algorithm detects and captures the student’s facial features such as eyes and mouth while the Sobel edge algorithm detects the edges of the facial features to determine whether the eyes and mouth are open or closed. With the data collected it will run through the database to determine the student’s attention level and inform the lecturer.

Advances in camera technology and digital instrument control have meant that in modern microscopy, the image that was, in the past, typically recorded on a piece of film is now recorded directly into a computer. The transfer of the analog image seen in the microscope to the digitized picture in the computer does not mean, however, that the problems associated with recording images, analyzing them, and preparing them for publication, have all miraculously been solved. The steps involved in the recording an image to film remain largely intact in the digital world. The image is recorded, prepared for measurement in some way, analyzed, and then prepared for presentation.Digital image acquisition schemes are largely the realm of the microscope manufacturers, however, there are also a multitude of “homemade” acquisition systems in microscope laboratories around the world. It is not the mission of this tutorial to deal with the various acquisition systems, but rather to introduce the novice user to rudimentary image processing and measurement.

This research proposed a methodology for specifying the location of an object with image processing. The objectives of this methodology are to capture the target area, and specify the location of the object by using image. In order to locate the dropping object on the image plane efficiently, consecutive images are analyzed and a threshold operation is proposed. Because the accuracy of the dropping objects location on the difference of consecutive images image plane is usually influenced by noise. Moreover, transformation unit is adopted to map the XY coordinate on image plane into the world coordinate for an accuracy of the dropping objects position. After we get the actual XY coordinate of the dropping object, we can find the distance from the target point (center) and clock direction of the dropping object related to the center also. In addition, by using one digital video camera set on the tower and pan to capture the image on the target area to detect the dropping object from the air to the ground. It made the proposed methodology provide easier portability to detect the dropping object in any area.

This study was conducted out of the researcher’s teaching reflection while teaching English as a foreign language (EFL) online class during the pandemic of COVID-19, a time when face-to-face courses had to be converted to online classes. Her choice of educational tool for her EFL e-learning environment utilized a Facebook closed group. Her experiences in utilizing a Facebook closed group for her EFL e-learning environment and the students’ views were the main topics of this study. Eighteen EFL freshmen participants were selected in this study. The researcher used data from a questionnaire with some closed and open-ended questions. The findings indicated that the students found the Facebook closed group a comfortable, practical, and useful e-learning environment. The students’ familiarity with the interface helped them to immediately focus on the class activities instead of learning how to use the tool. Most students viewed the Facebook closed group as positive for class interactions, creative work, opinions, and express feelings. A few dislike voices were related to the display quality of Facebook, the asynchronous and silent communication on Facebook. Accordingly, utilizing a Facebook closed group might be worth considering for learners who have not been adequately prepared with the technology for joining an online class.

The COVID-19 outbreak has destructively affected the education system over the world and brought about prominent alterations in the traditional systems of teaching and learning. In order to flatten the curve of disease transmission, several countries have resorted to online classes for students. Apart from the benefits of this strategy, there exists a chance of developing ocular complications in students those are continuously viewed the digital screen without any break. T-test and frequency analysis was used to find out the link between the digital electronic gadgets and eye strains. SPSS version 24.0.0 was used for all the statistical analyses. Here we assessed the various prominent factors behind the development of complications in eyes instigated by the electronic gadgets with special inference on the type of electronic gadgets, time spend, distance, type of usage, kind of posture, light condition, stress, and kind of symptoms towards digital eye strains. One of the major fact that has been emerged in this investigation is that the usage of electronic gadgets for online classes purposes have greatly increased than the other usage. The use of electronic gadgets for work and educational purposes has been recognized as a normal activity among individuals. With the extensive prevalence of developing digital eye strain in the students, it is paramount that the results of this investigation can be used for research purposes as strong research evidence to prevent the complications allied with eyes.

Facial expression recognition is a challenging task. A facial expression is formed by contracting or relaxing different facial muscles on human face that results in temporally deformed facial features like wide-open mouth, raising eyebrows or etc. The challenges of such system have to address with some issues. For instances, lighting condition is a very difficult problem to constraint and regulate. On the other hand, real-time processing is also a challenging problem since there are so many facial features to be extracted and processed and sometimes, conventional classifiers are not even effective in handling those features and produce good classification performance. This chapter discusses the issues on how the advanced feature selection techniques together with good classifiers can play a vital important role of real-time facial expression recognition. Several feature selection methods and classifiers are discussed and their evaluations for real-time facial expression recognition are presented in this chapter. The content of this chapter is a way to open-up a discussion about building a real-time system to read and respond to the emotions of people from facial expressions.

Object detection is a topic widely studied by the scientists as a special study in image processing. Although applications of this topic have been implemented, but basically this technology is not yet mature, futher research is needed to developed to obtain the desired result. The aim of the present study is to detect cigarette objects on video by using the Viola Jones method (Haar Cascade Classifier). This method known to have speed and high accuracy because of combining some concept (Haar features, integral image, Adaboost, and Cascade Classifier) to be a main method to detect objects. In this research, detection testing of cigarettes object is in samples of video with the resolution 160x120 pixels, 320x240 pixels, 640x480 pixels under condition of on 1 cigarette object and condition 2 cigarettes object. The result of this research indicated that percentage of average accuracy highest 93.3% at condition 1 cigarette object and 86,7% in the condition 2 cigarette object that was detected on the video with resolution 640x480 pixels, while the percentage of accuracy lowest 90% at condition 1cigarette object, and 81,7% at the condition 2 cigarette objects, detected on the video with the lowest resolution 160x120 pixels. The percentage of average errors at detection cigarettes object was inversely with percentage of accuracy. So that the detection system is able to better recognize the object of the cigarette, then the number of samples in the database needs to be improved and able to represent various types of cigarettes under various conditions and can be added new parameters related to cigarette object
