Abstract Skipjack tuna (Katsuwonus pelamis) is an important pelagic fish species caught in tropical and subtropical waters of the Pacific, Atlantic, and Indian oceans. Skipjack tuna (K. pelamis) is also a high economic fisheries resource in Prigi waters which is caught by troll line. High market demand results in high levels of exploitation. This study aimed to identify the length-weight relationship and biological reproduction of skipjack tuna in the Prigi waters. The research was conducted in the sampling period between December 2019 - April 2020 with total samples obtained as much as 1642 fish and was analyzed using linear regression. The results informed that the length-weight relationship of skipjack tuna was positive allometric with equation W=0.007FL3.223 which means that the fish has a fat body. The sex ratio between male and female fish is 1:1. While gonad maturity level obtained in this study is mostly in GML 1 and GML 2 which indicates that the catches were dominated by immature fish, so it is necessary to limit fishing effort so that sustainability of the skipjack tuna (K. pelamis) resource can be managed.

Shortfin scad (Decapterus macrosoma) is an essential economic fish resource that spreads over tropical and subtropical oceans and is mostly caught in Bali Strait. High market demand for this fish leads to an increase in fishing efforts. In contrast, uncontrolled fishing efforts will threaten its sustainability and economic potential. This research was conducted based on catches during February – March 2020 for total samples of 1,115 fish and catch-effort time series secondary data (2008-2019). Length-weight data were analyzed using linear regression. The utilization level is predicted using the surplus production model analysis, Schaefer and Fox models, to estimate maximum sustainable yield (MSY). Results informed that based on Fox model analysis, values of sustainable catch (YMSY), optimum fishing effort (fopt), and total allowable catch (YTAC) were 1,585 tons/year, 1,782 trips/year, and 1,268 tons/year, respectively. The utilization rate value was 125%. An increase in fishing efforts led to the excess amount of catch over the MSY level. In addition, based on length-weight relationship analysis, the growth pattern of shortfin scad (D. macrosoma) was found negative allometric with equation W = 0.0175 L2.776. In conclusion, the fish has a fat body shape, and the stock is in overfishing condition.

ABSTRACT
Yellowstripe scad included the one of commodity that has an important economic value in the Sunda Strait. Commonly, this species processed by Pandeglang fishermen to be the boiled fish, salted fish, grilled fish, besides it also traded in fresh or frozen fish product. The high market demand can not offset the production of this species from the nature. Therefore, it needed an information about resources of yellowstripe scad in the waters of the Sunda Strait in order to manage it well. The objective of this study was to estimate the maximum sustainable yield (MSY) and the optimum fishing effort (fopt), so that the yellowstripe scad resources in the waters of the Sunda Strait can be utilized optimally and sustainably. Based on the standardization analysis, the purse seine be made the standard fishing gear for estimating the MSY of yellowstripe scad. The yellowstripe scad growth patterns during the study is isometric. Trends of CPUE of the yellowstripe scad fisheries tends to decrease during 2003 to 2013. Then, this species was estimated its maximum sustainable yield (MSY) of 304.50 tons per year, with the optimum fishing effort of 12.478 trips per year. The decline of the catch per fishing effort can indicated that the yellowstripe scad fishing conditions in the Sunda Strait was having the overfishing phenomenon.

Key words: Sunda Strait, sustainable potential, yellowstripe scad

-------

The Bone Bay is part of Fisheries Management Zone WPPI 713 that covers Makassar strait, Flores sea and Bali sea. To such vast marinearea, fisheries management can be started from smaller region, e.g. embayment waters. Biological characteristics of skipjack tuna (Katsuwonuspelamis) are some of important information for developing fisheries management in the area. This research was aimed to determine length-weight relationship, size composititon, growth pattern and biologically feasible size of the fish. Data were obtained from fish caught byfisherman from Januari to December 2007. The bay was divided into three study areas, i.e. Northern, Centre and Southern Zones. The bcoefficients for length-weight relationship in the three zones were equal 3 [not significant]. The average fork-length (FL) in each zoneshowed similar trends: increased from January to June, then stabilized until December. Using von Bertalanffy’s growth model, the maximumFL (L ∞ of 759.75 mm is estimated for fish at age of 84 months. The length at first maturity of the fish is 465 mm (FL).

Skipjack tuna (Katsuwonus pelamis), should be managed properly because even though it is renewable, natural resources can be depleted. One approach in managing fish resources is by modeling. The purpose of this study is to determine the maximum sustainable yield, the level of utilization and effort of skipjack tuna. Data on catches as well as catch efforts of skipjack tuna were collected from 9 fisheries year books of Luwu Kabupaten (District). The surplus production model used is the Schaefer, Fox, Walter & Hilborn model. Schaefer model obtained by MSY = 1541.08 tons and Fopt = 243 trips; Fox model obtained maximum sustainable yield value (YMSY) of 1602,244 tons, maximum sustainable fishing effort (fMSY) of 303 units and maximum sustainable CpUE value (UMSY) of 5.29 tons trip-1; the Walter & Hilborn model found potential stocks of sustainable reserves (Be) skipjack in Luwu district amounted to 935.72 tons year-1. Utilization rates of the skpjack tuina indicate the fish is still under exploitation.

Shrimp as one of potential commodity which has a high protein and savory flavor of meat is highly favored by the people in the country and abroad. The catch activity of the Metapenaeopsis mogiensis shrimp by the fisherman in Pusong Lama, Lhoksemawe has long been a livelihood. However, if the shrimp catching activity was carried out continuously without any restrictions, it can threaten the sustainability of the shrimp. The purpose of this study was to determine the lenght-weight relationship of shrimp caught in the waters of Aceh Utara, Indonesia. This research was expected to provide additional information on the existence of Metapenaeus mogiensis shrimp and future sustainable resource management for farmers. The research method used was a simple random withdrawal method by taking shrimp samples randomly from a basket of fishermen's catch in one sail. A total of 10% shrimp samples of the total catch of fishermen was taken, then length was measured and weighed. Sampling was carried out in July2019 at TPI Pusong lama, Lhoksemawe. The length of carapace of male shrimp ranges from 14.8 mm to 22.2 mm and females 13.9 mm to 22.1 mm.The weight of male shrimp ranges from 2.17 grams to 6.73 grams and the weight of female shrimp ranges from 2.01 grams to 5.83 grams. Growth patterns found in both males and femalesshowed allometric negatives and the ratio of sex was 1.5: 1 (male:female).
