The Bone Bay is part of Fisheries Management Zone WPPI 713 that covers Makassar strait, Flores sea and Bali sea. To such vast marinearea, fisheries management can be started from smaller region, e.g. embayment waters. Biological characteristics of skipjack tuna (Katsuwonuspelamis) are some of important information for developing fisheries management in the area. This research was aimed to determine length-weight relationship, size composititon, growth pattern and biologically feasible size of the fish. Data were obtained from fish caught byfisherman from Januari to December 2007. The bay was divided into three study areas, i.e. Northern, Centre and Southern Zones. The bcoefficients for length-weight relationship in the three zones were equal 3 [not significant]. The average fork-length (FL) in each zoneshowed similar trends: increased from January to June, then stabilized until December. Using von Bertalanffy’s growth model, the maximumFL (L ∞ of 759.75 mm is estimated for fish at age of 84 months. The length at first maturity of the fish is 465 mm (FL).

The size composition, length-weight relationship, and condition factor of Thunnus albacares were examined in Bone Bay. Sampling was conducted at two stations, i.e., Station I at Cimpu in Luwu Regency and Station II at Lonrae in Bone Regency between July 2018 and June 2019. 10246 and 2651 yellowfin tunas were captured in Station I and Station II, respectively. Measurement of the fork length ranged between 20 cm and 192 cm with an average length of 81,257 ± 33,456 cm in Station I, and between 26 to 162 cm with an average length of 95,479 cm in Station II. The weight measurement ranged between 0,35 and 99,21 kg with an average of 14,539 kg in Station I, and between 0,46 and 97,35 kg with an average of 26,978 kg in Station II. Calculation of the relationship was based on the formula W= 5,5−5FL2,7454 (R2 = 0,963) in Station I, and W=4,1−5FL2,9103 (R2 = 0,761) in Station II. The values of condition factor at Station I and Station II were 2,1395 and 3,4374, respectively. It is quite evident that the growth pattern of the yellowfin tunas at Bone Bay was negatively allometric, indicating that the length increased faster than the weight.

Skipjack Tuna (Katsuwonus Pelamis) is one of the big pelagic fish in fishery resources that has high economic value and plays an important role in export activity in Indonesia. Catch activities for consumption needs for people could threatened of Skipjack Tuna availability. The growth pattern of Skipjack Tuna is needed to used as references for the appropriate management plan to protect Skipjack Tuna. The research was conducted from February to April 2017 at PPI Kedonganan, Kuta District, Badung, Bali. The fish were collected by simple random sampling method. This study showed that gillnet and handline were used as fishing gears. The length frequency distributions were in the long-range of 315-337 mm means the catch fish is still young. The growth pattern of Skipjack Tuna was negative allometric means length growth was faster than weight growth. The growth parameters of Skipjack Tuna were obtained by the asymptotic length (Linf) of 875.2 mm, growth coefficient (K) of 0.09, and theoretical age (t0) of -0.78. Skipjack Tuna have small body size with condition factors were ranged from 0.8783-1.7269. It can be concluded that these methods can be used to determine the appropriate management efforts.

Skipjack tuna is classified as a large pelagic fish species and has abundant presence in the waters of the Indian Ocean including the waters of southern Bali. Information related to reproductive biology is very important especially to find out when the fish spawn so that they can be used as a basis for its management. Skipjack spawns several times (multiple spawner), this is known based on the level of oocyte development that was more than one level in one active gonad. Samples of female skipjack gonads were obtained from Kedonganan, Bali. A total of 106 female skipjack tuna with length range of 37-71 cmFL and weight range of 902-7,214 grams were observed. Gonad samples in fresh condition were immediately fixed using a 10% buffer-formalin solution then histologically analyzed using the paraffin method and HE staining (Harris-Haemotoxilin and Eosin). Female skipjack classified as immature fish has the characteristics of unyolked oocytes (UY) which are darker in coloration, have a diameter <156 ìm and Early yolked (EY) which has a diameter of 114-249 ìm. Adult skipjack (mature) has the characteristics of ovarian development in the form of oocytes at a higher level, namely advanced yolked (AY) with oocyte diameter ranging from 180-448 µm, migratory nucleus (MN) 239-468 µm and hydrated (Hy) where oocyte size is very large, which is around 459-552 µm and shaped like a pink stain. Female skipjack in the waters of the Indian Ocean south of Bali has an asynchronous (non-uniform) oocyte development which is characterized by the appearance of several levels of oocyte development in one ovary. Size at first maturity (Lm) of female skipjack in Indian Ocean southern Bali was 44.7 cmFL. Adult skipjack females with active spawning status are found every month of observation (April-September) and suspected to spawn throughout the year.

HighlightBullet tuna (Auxis rochei Risso 1810) has been identified (measured, weighed) and analyzed. The resource status of bullet tuna has been estimated based on body shape and age group.LWR curve is implemented to describe and express the age group of bullet tuna (immature, adult/mature, old)This study has resulted the composition and ratio of bullet tuna that is suitable to be caught, fit for consumption and worthy of maturationAbstractBullet tuna (Auxis rochei Risso 1810) or tongkol lisong (Indonesian) is important for human consumption and health as well as an income source for fishers and coastal communities. Its utilization problems are over exploitation, catch domination by immature groups, and the threatened stock security of the bullet tuna (BLT). This research aimed to determine the status of the prospective parent of bullet tuna caught in the Lesser Sunda region, particularly from the Alas Strait to the Indian Ocean, West Nusa Tenggara (WNT). Meanwhile, the data were collected from July to September 2020 (2nd transitional season) at the Tanjung Luar Fishing Port, East Lombok and a dependent survey method was adopted with sampling, interview, observation, and documentation techniques. Fork length and body weight data were used to estimate the length and weight relationship, growth pattern, condition factor, fish age group, and catch worth. The primary and secondary data were processed quantitatively using several equations. The growth pattern of bullet tuna was minor allometric (b = 2.875), worth selling (K > 1.00), and the majority was adult fish or mature group. The LWR model is . This condition indicates the bullet tuna is worth catching  and worth spawning, so that it is eligible to be a potential broodstock candidate to support a sustainable management of BLT fisheries. Furthermore, fishers have applied the code of conduct for responsible fisheries (CCRF) in supporting the sustainable development goals.

ABSTRACTTernate Island lies in a strategic location as it is situated in the middle of  the main fishing ground for skipjack (Katsuwonus pelamis) fishing using pole and line (huhate) and fish aggregating devices (FADs). As typical pelagic fish, skipjack that is gathered near the water surface is the younger fish, likewise the ones which are caught around FADs. Therefore, this fishing method has caused serious problem due to the domination of young fish and increasing bycatch and discard. The objective of this research is to analyze the size structure of the fork length, appropriate size for catching, catch composition, bycatch and discard level. Pole and line catch samples were collected in 3 months fromMay to July 2018. The results show that in average, skipjack tuna caught in the study location was undersize. The total catch is predominantly targeted fish which has a higher economic value compared to bycatch and discarded fish. Even though bycatch in the pole and line fisheries are low, reduction efforts are still required. which can be done by sorting bycatch and unwanted fish then discard it into the sea when the fish is still alive. Keywords: biology, pole and line, sustainability status, Ternate City ABSTRAKPosisi Pulau Ternate sangat strategis karena berada di tengah perairan yang menjadi daerah operasi penangkapan cakalang (Katsuwonus pelamis) dengan alat tangkap huhate (pole and line) yang dibantu dengan penggunaan rumpon. Kata Kunci: Biologi, huhate (pole and line), status keberlanjutan, Kota Ternate
